Free Agents - The New Breed of Entrepreneur

As a young guy looking around in a flawed world, I've become conscious of a ton of things that just don't work anymore.

I used to, however, believe it was just "the way things are." Then I got conscious of the idea that I could actually change it.

It's gonna take me some time, but I'm working on it. Anyway, beyond my efforts, it's already happening.

I just saw a thread out there talking about "would you ever go back to your job?"

Answer?

Nope, not even if I suddenly started to go broke. To me, this is the greatest time we could ever be alive. There is more of an opportunity for people to become what I call "free agents" now more than ever.

Why is this relevant?
Because all of you kick ass. Internet marketing is not exclusive to one thing. You can have 10 sites, about different things, in which you blog and sell products.

That's called freedom. This is the best thing in the world. Hope this motivates the hell out of you.

I agree. I've actually found that I have more opportunities since I am no longer working a 9-5 job. I meet more people, get more clients, have more time to create products, have time to go for a hike with my wife, watch the sunset and more time to build websites.

All of this means that I'm generating more money too...

Awesome man! You said it! Meet more people, create more awesome stuff, do the things with your fam, and build more sites! This is great.

ALLLL the mentors ive had in the past told me something similar. Something along the lines of "once you replace your job income, quit so you can put that 40hrs a week on your businesses" Best advice ive ever gotten. And it just becomes second nature after that. Best to keep moving forward and striving for that "next level" since there really is no plateau in IM or anything for that matter. Great post.

I was actually too scared to quit my job, so I was laid off instead. That was one of the happier moments of my life. The funny part was my co-workers seemed a bit concerned because I was so happy about being laid off too. HAHAHA!!!

You touched on a monumental part of why I am here, and why I think the majority of us are here:

          Freedom.

It's an intoxicating feeling to have complete control, for better or for worse, over your prosperity. You control what your life, no corporation, no boss.

Chances are, if you're just starting out, the safety of the income from the 9-5 is appealing. That's understandable. Venturing into the unknown, especially the economic unknown is against human nature. As a society, we are taught that our economic prosperity is essential, so we make short cuts.

It takes a truly exceptional person to break free of this mindset.

To put everything at risk, and pursue that freedom. Everyone in your life will be holding you back because they don't understand and are jealous.

I'm glad that I have found a community of people who understand all of this. Thankfully, as a student, I still have time before I enter into the 'real world' and have to meet the obligations constructed by society. The clock is ticking for me, so I have that motivation to work at this so I never have to start that 9-5.

Though, having everyone here is extra motivation. Thanks to you all

Ryan, I was looking forward to a new video from you!

Your posts are a good read, but you come across much better in video IMO.

Well you could mix it up I guess, some posts and some videos.

          Great post though nevertheless

I have been self employed for 30+ years. There are times when things get a little tough but that is a time when you just need to quick being a slacker and get your ass in gear.

I think it was around 2004 ( a time when you had your pick of .com url's) when I finally quit resisting and had my son build me a website for my company. Since then there has been no looking back.

Three things that I see that are not working that well any more are things like the paper Yellow Pages (other than a good fireplace starter), sticking your sales pitch in every body's face by way of mailing coupons and door hangers. Today all my leads come from either referrals or thru my website.

My advertising cost is almost zero now and I see opportunity lying around every corner I turn

Would I ever go back. Hell No! Way too much opportunity lies ahead. I have started seeing the possibilities with everything I learn and retirement is looking brighter than ever.

Well the good point about it all is even that you can actually keep your job and still continue doing this and making just as much money as those who have quit their jobs. But only you need a lot of motivation dedication and creativity which to me is the most important.

This thing is like a drug you can't get away from it once you've started except you are not doing it right.

Good point, the mental game is equally important, if not more than some software that does something.

I happen to believe, (and it works wonderfully for me) that psychology is everything when it comes to IM. (For you nitpickers, I know it's not exclusively psychology :p)

I agree - it's all psychology. Internally, it's the psychology of motivating yourself since your success scales with your effort. Externally, it's understanding the demand for value by the market and how to supply.

Man, this is great. You're right, "success scales with your effort," I like that.

Motivating yourself is definitely a huge part of it. Understanding the demand and thinking "how do I supply it?"

          Great.
