How to get an Expired Domain back?

I bought the .com of my name in 2009 for 0.99 from GoDaddy but since then my email acount I used to buy it has become over run with 1000's of spam messages each week and I abandoned it. As a result I never realized that I hadn't updated my credit card information and missed the renewal of this domain which I was in the process of developing.

I have looked everywhere on the site but it will nto let me renew or buy the domain and when I visit it it is just parked saying it is expired pending renewal. Can anyone point out how to go about reclaiming this domain if there is a way?

Call go daddy and beg them to release it back to you. There may be a fee but as long as the expired domain squatters haven't bought it yet you should be safe

If no one purchased it in the mean time than you have a chance, but if it got purchased sorry.

No one is going to purchase it because it is just my name. It isn't all that common either, in fact only one other person on the internet has the same name as me and he only appears through one newspaper article from Ireland.

So it isn't a concern that it will be bought but it would be nice to have it back so I can blog on it and offer some services or something.

I am considering just buying the .info version because it is cheaper and I am not really worried about it ranking. Decisions, decisions...

Wait until the name drops, it is in the redemption period.

When it drops, simply buy it again, but use a sensible email address this time.

You do not need to use Godaddy again, any registrar will register it for you, and may be a little more helpful if this occurs agaain, try namecheap.com

        Hope this helps.

You can't renew it from the parked page.

Have you logged into your Domain Manager or even logged into your account? You should be able to find the renewal link there.

You're taking a chance in a drop. There are companies that will snap up drops just because someone owned them and they think that means they have value.

Log into your GoDaddy control panel and that domain is renewable (depends on how far past renewal date it is), then just renew it and change the contact e-mail address. If you've forgotten your GoDaddy account info - for heaven's sake, ask them for it!

Otherwise, you have to prove to GoDaddy that you are who you say you are - there should be submission forms on their website. They'll require picture ID and some proof that you are indeed the owner of that name. You can then regain access to your account and the name so it can be renewed.

Once it deletes from your account and goes into the drop, it's anybody's game. If it goes to auction, you may be bidding for it against other potential buyers. It will cost you more money - or you may decide it isn't worth the $$. All in all, it's much better to try and renew it before it gets deleted from your account.

Yeah I have logged on and gone to my renewal area but it has no domains to be renewed. In fact there is no mention of me ever purchasing the domain on there. The only reason I know it is the right account was because i went through the emails and found the notification of renewal.

I definitely won't be using GoDaddy again unless it is another 99c domain. NameCheap are who I usually buy domains through and I am registered with my main email address for all of those.

I know my account information it is just that once logged in there is no sign of thsi domain ever being registered to me, apart from all the emails from GoDaddy.

I might just buy the info version since it is a lot cheaper and if the .com drops in the near future I will re-purchase it then (through another domain registrar).

Without necessarily showing the actual domain itself, cjm18, can you do a full
WHOIS lookup and post it here? Just curious to see what its current status is.

Depending on how it is, it might or might not be possible to retrieve it sooner.
Looks like you can't PM yet, though.

I had a look and this is the most detailed I could come up with. Seems like I'm just going to have to wait.

I just remembered that Go Daddy has an 18-day "grace period" for registrants
to renew their expired domains. Since it expired in December as you said, it's
likely auctioned off to someone else.

Unfortunately that means you can only either try to buy it from its new holder
or...legally challenge it. Beyond that, getting the domain in another extension
            might be more practical.

Oh, and I've seen some folks wait even years (six at most I've seen) to finally
re-register it. Patience can be a virtue, heh.
