Put up a blog, and then the possibilities are endless.

When you have your own products plaster the site with all your own links, and you'll almost certainly rank highly in the search engines for your own name, which is always good - unless like me you have a gay porn star with the same name!

Also you can put a tracking script on the domain so you can have yourname.com/recommends/productX

I've registered the wife & kids as well, I would say it's very valuable in this digital age.

I had registered my name back in 2003 or 2004 and put up an under construction page just because I didn't want anyone else to have the domain. Over the years, and especially recently, I've found that the site was getting traffic just from people searching for me.

After like 7 years, I just recently created a real site on the domain and began blogging. Being that the domain is fairly old, it seems to be ranking well in the search engines with just a little effort. I've probably missed out on a lot of income and subscribers by not doing it earlier.

So, yeah - it's a good idea to have a domain and site under your name.

You must have an interesting name if you thought the .com wasn't taken yet. Not trying to be rude, but it can't be common if even the .me is still available.

I only got round to registering mine fairly recently. Thought I'd post a lot more regularly than I do but as I don't use it to brand myself particularly, I guess it doesn't matter too much.

Good point to remember though is - keep it simple - OK, if you're name has 10 characters and *is not* easy to remember (or easy to spell); shorten it and get know by your shorter name.

ie. Nick or Nic is easier to type than Nicholas and so on.

Here's what I have on my name domain(s):

- a brief description of me and what I do
- links to major sections of my online work
- links to my social media profiles (so anyone can connect with me)
- testimonials from people who have worked with me
- an appeal to get readers involved in projects

Mine is 15 letters long. So I took a part of it (which is the nickname I've
always been called at home, since childhood) - and used it!

I have my own with about 60 articles talking about easy ways for noobs to make money online. I haven't touched it in months though it still gets steady traffic. I'll probably just let it sit until I feel like working on it again. I have a pretty unique name so there wasn't too much concern with having someone snatch the domain name up. But like others have mentioned, it's cool to have a domain name with your name even if you take forever to do something with it.

I've had my name.com since 2000 but never done much with it. I branded my IM blog as IM Nirvana so sticking with that. I recently forwarded my name.com to my Facebook URL so it's not just there doing nothing.

I have my own name .com, .uk, etc... It depends what you do, it is always a good idea to have your domain with your name. One domain can have many extensions. For example: ToxicSteve.com/blog, ToxicSteve.com/products... You can have your domain name and use it for various purpose. I advise you to have more than just .com. As soon as you get famous people will try to sell you your own name and charge a lot for it. I advise all my clients to buy domain name with the country they are trying to target and not just .com.

I use my domain name with my website to brand myself, promote my products and create an authority image among my clients.

It definitely wouldn't be a bad idea to get the yourname.com domain, if it is available. I've been trying to purchase mine for a while now, but unfortunately someone with my same first and last name has had the domains locked up (the .com, .net and .biz TLDs) for several years now.
