Internet Marketing 6 months down the line - What's your verdict? Good, bad or Ugly?

Hello!

I started IM at the end of July 2010. About 6 months ago now. Firstly, I did the Challenge and another excellent IM course. My chosen method of traffic is article marketing. I have a squeeze page and a blog and I've made a few sales.

... BUT

Although I found IM very interesting, the major hurdle for me has been the "steep" learning curve. (backlinks, linkwheel, spinning articles, etc...)

Would love to hear from people who are in a similar situation. Are you still raring to go or on the verge of giving up?

I'm a little further down the road but I'd say this - You don't need to know all that stuff.

Just get good at the thing you're most passionate about and let others do the rest for you - it's a much more powerful (and quicker) way to make your mark.

Depending on what direction you take with internet marketing you may need to know more than the others. For instance, article marketing is all about spinning the content, distributing it to as many places as possble, and getting it visible.

I've got to say though I am more motivated than ever! I've been in my slumps, but you just have to shake it off and look at the end goal, or change things up. I've always looked for actualy business models though rather than "affiliate marketing".

I agree fully with this. You do not have to know everything there is about Internet marketing. You just have to know one or two things and apply those fully. You can pick up the rest as you get going. If all else and you want to you can always outsource half of the work. I find my self doing this more and more with every new site I build. At first I would only outsource bits and pieces of the work. Now I have been outsourcing almost entire sites to be made. Even though I can do most of it my self. It is more productive for me to have someone else do most of the work for me while I work on the things I know really matter.

So andy here pretty much hit it right on the nose. You do not have to learn everything at once you only need to know one or two things to get you started. You can out source the rest of the work for dirt cheep depending upon what you are having to outsource.

That's some very good advice from Andy.

It took me about six months to "find my groove" and get a good idea of what I wanted to do and focus on. Ever since, it's been going extremely well for me.

And it's the same kind of principle Andy mentioned: I decided to focus on just a few things and I have other people do the other stuff for me. If you try to master all aspects of online marketing by yourself, you'll never get anywhere.

I agree you dont need to know all that stuff. I don't know how to make link wheels, I do very little baklinking and I never buy WSO's or the latest hyped product launches.

Find a method that is making you money, and block all the noise out and just work work work until you reach your $100 a day goal or whatever your aim may be, then come up above the water to take a breath.

Affiliate marketers don't fail, they just give up before the magic starts, it is a craft, and as with most crafts it takes time to get good!
stick with it if you enjoy it, try something else if it is a pain.
