How to Not Get Banned by Squiddoo / Hubpages?

I had a few pages up about 2 years ago and they got taken down.

I am not sure why, as I do not remember.

I am thinking of puttin' some more up, but I want to do it without getting into trouble.

Is it bad if they are promotional?

Do I just put up content and have a backlink or two per post?

Wanna play by the rules..

      Squidoo changes their TOS...a lot.

What may have been acceptable back then may not be today. I know they did away with the weight loss niche and some others. Maybe your lenses were about one of those topics?

Just read their terms and follow that and you should be ok.

This is true. Not every online property is like this, though. Squidoo has gutted out entire categories in the past, but, then again, they shouldn't have had a porn category "back in the day" anyway. As search engines have evolved, they've had to evolve, as well.

If articles/lenses are flat out being deleted, I don't care how many members a site has....I think that staffing should be in place to give as many articles as possible at least some personalized treatment. I don't agree with just mass deleting...ESPECIALLY if articles/lenses are borderline.

I don't care if hubpages or squidoo bans me I think they both suck. I just publish all my articles to ezines and my own site. Ezine articles rank much higher than my identical hubpage articles.

As concerns posting, like you say, probably best to just have your content and your post backlinks

So is it ok if we just talk about our topic and drop a backlink in each post?

        Hi Momo,

As suggested by a couple of people here the best thing to do is read their TOS and follow them. That way the sites will stay where they are and you won't be wasting any time.

No point following what you get advised here just ask them direct. I know Hubpages can be very strict but Squidoo is a lot more relaxed.

Squidoo does not allow porn, medical products ect, there is a long list to read. also your lenses may have been removed if you have not been active on site for a long time, many people set up a profile and only make one lens, after time these are removed, unless they are receiving constant traffic.

Sorry but why would you buy fake traffic for your Squidoo lense?

Also why did you decide to bump this thread after it's had no comments since January?

Simple answer: Build your own websites!

Then you do not put your work into someone else's hands and you will own all of it!

Traffic will boost your lens rank and your lens rank controls how much you receive from your ads, if you have a very low lens rank you won't receive anything from the ads that usually pay more.
I've bumped this thread cause it was on the context of my question...

Really? Thanks for that, I've never really used Squidoo, I didn't realise they worked like that.

        Quite open for abuse then.

I'd ask them personally if it's allowed.

Chris has a good point though, why not build sites you actually own?

I'll check if I can contact them.
The reason why I'm asking this is cause I already have some old lenses and I was thinking about a way to monetize them, if I didn't have them, I wouldn't even bother, the suggestion about building sites as nothing to do with my question, even though there are actually several advantages on using squidoo...

I think this is perfectly correct, especially if you're trying to buy traffic for it. Even if it's a free blog or something, it's better than writing an article for someone else's dime and taking some small trim off of that.

As far as hubpages go regarding being too promotional, I believe they actually tell you if it is (if you have too many amazon ads on it, for example) and you can check the stats of your article and look at the 'hub metrics' tab, it displays a little rating for it's "Revenue Potential" - if this is really high then you're probably pushing the limits of being 'overly promotional'.

But like everyone else said, check the TOS to be sure
