Wordpress strips Amazon links from my photos - what am I doing wrong?

Hi guys, searched but can't find an answer. Every time I put my affiliate link in the caption of my photo, the entire caption disappears. When I include the affiliate link as the link url for my photo, it doesn't link to anything. I know I must be overlooking something simple...

Thanks in advance for your help!

You know I had this problem as well when I did affiliate marketing for Amazon. I would like to know this answer as well.

The link should go in the Link URL field when inserting images inside a post. The only thing I can imagine might be messing this up is if you are putting the entire affiliate link into that box instead of just the URL for the link?

For example, Amazon gives you all the html code around a link so you get <a href=http://....>anchor text</a>. You just want to take the http://.... part and put that in the Link URL box.

Not sure about the caption problem but I've found that for some reason wordpress doesn't let me change the url link once the image has been inserted into the post already.

      Try this...

Delete the picture from the post
Insert it again as a new picture but make sure you put the amazon link in before you hit 'insert in post'

Erica, I think that's EXACTLY the problem; can't test it at the moment but I'm almost sure I copied and pasted the whole string.

MalceskiFan, thanks for telling me that - that's one of those things that could hang me up for a while trying to figure out what was going on.

THANKS GUYS! Have a great night

This is the likely problem. Mrs S has the best, quickest solution for capturing the correct link. It is far better than trying to grab the bit you really need from all that Amazon offers in a normal product link.

Maybe there are particular ways to get it successfully. Some applications needs proper execution, therefore it is important to know the whole process. Read, Research and Review!

  • hI THERE! I have the same problem before. But I corrected it by converting the image first into a PNG file. If your Photo is a jpeg or other than the PNG, your link will not worked.

Here's a tip to make sure you only pick up the part of the Amazon URL that you need. Head to the page of the product you want to promote and then look up at the SiteStripe across the top of the page (if you're logged in it will be there).

Click on the Share on Twitter link - Amazon will then create a shortened version of the affiliate URL. Take this nice tidy link and paste it into the URL section when you add your image to the post. Don't post it in the caption section - that's for if you want words to appear below the image.

I've had similar problems. What I ended up doing was going into the SQL database and changing the link in there. Now, it's still problematic, if I try and ever edit that post again, it messes up again!

I'll try a few of these suggestions.
