Whose mailing list would you recommend?

Preferably someone who tries out a product and knows it's good before sending it out to their list.

I like how you stuck yourself in there Oh and do you just really like Chris Guthrie or did you accidentally put him on your list twice?

I have never recommended a product that I have not used. Before signing up to anybody's mailing list, make sure the same is true for them. Also, make sure that their advice is based on case study, not theory or rehashed crap that they didn't put an ounce of thought into.

A good indicator that it is time to unsunscribe from a mailing list is when you start getting the copy and paste sales pitches written by product creators... or the fake reviews written for affiliates.

IMers that do list swaps are OK, but only if they are offering a great freebie and not some BS that they did not take a minute to look at before sending out the offer.

I like Pat Flynn of smart passive money. I have joined his list and he sends out valuable content and only occasionally aff sales. I have unsubscribed for many list because of aggressive sales pitch, he is only one right now I subscribed to in IM niche.

I've exchanged quite a few emails with Pat. He's a great, stand-up guy. I've also had the honor to have him integrate alot of my research into some of his posts.

He does IM the right way. Typically, I receive an email from him once every 2 or 3 weeks. Hopefully, as he gets bigger, he stays true to himself....IMHO, his approach right now is the most optimal.

        P.s. It's "smart passive income"...

Agree with this. I used to be in a mastermind group with Pat and I found him to be extremely conservative on the stuff he gets involved with. Definitely won't recommend it (or even mention it) if it's not working for him personally.

With some recent product launches, I've seen ALOT of this lately.

      Sad.

Some of the leading IM'ers have completely sold out.

This right here is the best advice on this subject if I may vote. If you take Brian's advise you likely won't get 20 emails advertising the same thing either.
I stay on a few more of the big names than necessary just to keep up on what headlines they are using. You can learn a lot by observation

Recently have been experiencing this with one of the marketers listed here.. very disappointing to buy a "vague" product that you would otherwise immediately ignore but for their recommendation, only to find there is NO possible way they actually use or even looked at it. The last few products this person has sent are all getting annihilated in the review section here at WF. First and last time making that mistake.

Thanks for the list of other guys to check out- I second checking out Hitesh

This is a very interesting thread. I have seen some of the ones that I follow here. So here is the list of ones that I like.

        Frank Kern
        Trey Smith
        Brendon Burchard
        Len Terry
        Carrie Wilkerson (Barefoot Executive)
Sue and Steve (Sue and Steve Show)
        Diane Hochman

Some of these are small list owners, but they give some pretty great value.

Brendon just launched his Product Blueprint and that had some amazing free content. Just so very helpful.

Trey Smith is Frank Kern's cousin and has some great ideas he likes to share.

And Frank Kern. What can you say about ol' Frank Kern? He is abosolutely hilarious. I love Frank. He makes me laugh so hard sometime I worry I might pee my pants. Not to mention he gives away the most amazing advice. If you don't follow Frank you really are missing out.

I 100% agree with Brian's post quoted above. Though I just started building my "IM" list yesterday, my subscribers in other niches are in the healthy 6 figures and I've never had issues with low open rates or spam complaints, mainly due to practicing the same things Brian pointed out above. If you have a list, you have to cherish it, or just don't build a list if you plan to abuse it.

For me, I'm subscribed to millions of lists, more to see what kind of stuff they send and how they market, but it's been ages since I opened anyone's emails. They quickly get archived or deleted.

The only ones who I look forward to and open/read the entire emails are:

      1. Kim Roach. All the free stuff on her site could potentially be sold as mini-reports, but she provides it free. Her actual paid stuff is next level. BuzzBlogger.com

      2. Paul Myers. Same with Paul, you'll get a million dollar value even if you never buy anything from him which costs money. TalkBiz News: What you really need to know to succeed online - Online business building newsletter

      3. Tiffany Dow. I used to read her emails more but not so much lately. Not because they suck, but because they're more around her market of PLR and I'm not so much in to that at the moment. I still do open them and at least skim through it, and visit her blog if it's something which I'm interested in. She doesn't send out BS either. Tiffany Dow's Internet Marketing Blog

I think that's about it for me.

I subscribe to various mailing lists for more than just information ... part of it has to do with keeping a swipe file.

But the ones I always read in no particular order off the top of my head:

I'll second Lynn Terry ... always good information
    Nicole Dean
    Paul Lemberg
    Jeremy Schoemaker
    Glen Livingston
    Terry Dean
    Andy Jenkins
Paul Meyers ... long before I knew he was active here
    Rich Schefren

There are a few others than I can't remember right now.

The moment I find someone who will not try to overwhelm me with bollocks at one point, I will stay subscribed. I find that quite hard though, I don't know why so many people lack common sense...

Like this one time, I was approached via email and asked how's my site doing, so I gave a neutral response and it turned out to be just a new tactic how to mail an offer to a complete stranger without "spamming".

I wouldn't mind if the offer was good, unfortunately it was 4 A4s (twice) which could have been easily summed up by these two brief points:
      • put your email address in the contact form
      • pay $29.95 without knowing a thing what you're paying for
What amused me the most was their claim that one "doesn't have to be a sales person in order to become rich online"...

This is an unfair statement. While I would agree that some IMers are more shrewd than others, of course they all want your money! You are a potential customer and that is what businesses are started for... to get money from potential customers!

If you opened a bakery, wouldn't you want money from every person that looked in your window or walked through your door? Of course you would! Does that make you a bad person?

The key to sleeping well at night would be to know that you make the best wedding cake you possibly could and knowing that your baked goods are making other people happy. Deliver what the customer wants and you will be on your way to living an honest and happy life.

To be fair E everyone is a potential customer I am you are everyone here and "out there"

I think though sometimes there is a lot of hammering with no value being reciprocized <tm LOL
The customer has a right to be treated the same as if they were coming into your bakery to use your example. Even though the baker wants the cash and needs to unload the inventory he is graceful helpful and often times smiley and cheerful. That has so many sales possibilities because the customer is then comfortable
just wanted to add that, not that you need any help

You say this, yet how much entirely free information do you consume? You've made 100 posts here...how much have YOU given to others? What value have you provided?

Why can't people earn money from genuinly showing people how to earn multiples of what they ask for in the first place? Just like a carpenter, or a mechanic, don't IM'ers have to live and feed their family, as well?

      I take your statement personally.

OK guys, Here is my two cents:

Chris Farrell- I consider him a genuine, honest, ethical marketer who walks the walk. He hardly ever mails with product offers, but when he does, I and many others pay attention b/c we really trust him. He could come out with multiple products for sale individually, but instead adds them to his membership site and adds value there for no additional cost. He's responsive and accessible as well as just makes it obvious that he truly wants to help people. He is an FB friend of mine who has actually corresponded with me on a few occasions. I can't say enough about him. I am a student of his twice over and have gotten so much from him.

Jason Fladlien- great IM products that aren't overpriced, and are thus accessible to people who really need them. He also seems personable, ethical and honest. I bought a product with him on article writing, used his method on my first article and got a Page 2 Google rank for it within a very short period of time. Needless to say, his products are very practical and actionable, in my humble opinion.

Glen Allsopp of Viperchill- over-delivers on value in the best way. Is responsive to his readers on his blog, writes well, and has a warm way about him. As a reader of his, I feel like what I say reaches his ears and that he cares.

Jared Eldridge (he's new, but very ethical, generous. For complete disclosure, he is a personal friend. I met him in an online course where he was just being so generous and helpful and got to know him better on Facebook. Good person, good marketer. He partnered up with Jo Barnes to put out The Social Networking Academy).

Yaro Starak- great writing that gives actionable info., great products, and doesn't constantly barrage me with every new promotion.

I would say to follow one or two good marketers and do not make it too complicated to learn from them. 10 might be a bit too many and you spend all day listening to their content and not doing any work by the end of the day. Yes! I have been there.

But alas, you need mentors and need to listen to marketers better than yourself. I like the guys that are a little bit different and do not have the whole hard sell appraoch...and guys a little bit on the crazy side.

So I guess you know where this is going.

    My favourites :-

    1) FRANK "I'll use my voodoo on you" KERN

    2) JASON "I can scull a beer fast than you mofo" MOFFIT

These two are best in the business and have learnt lots from just watching them.

If you are looking for an honest marketer who will only promote products she's tried, check out Tiffany Dow. She actually reviews products and writes posts for her blog as she is going through the product. This lets people see any potential difficulties they may face with a product and whether or not it is right for them.

She has a separate site that she has moved all of her reviews to so you can read them all in one place. She reviews a variety of products, so chances are she's went through something that would be helpful to almost all upcoming marketers.

Plus, she gives out a TON of free information to her list.

I learned the most from Gary Halbert. I also like Frank Kern if for no other reason than he's the most entertaining.

I believe Jason Fladlien is a total genius and will be #1 in the industry before long.

When following marketers, I'd recommend you pay especially close attention to what they do and how they do things, and not just what they say, because there's a world of unsaid but powerful information to be gleaned from observing their actions alone.

I have to say Pat Flynn; He seems very transparent and will help you out. He’s main business is not the Make money online for internet marketers. He makes money from other niches, He sends great info out doesn’t hit you up 24hrs with offers .

I like Alexa Smith because she really knows article marketing and helps when needed.

Not that this person is completely relevant to the question, but Tim Ferris is great. His content isn't directed to internet marketers, but I believe it is VERY beneficial to analyze how he's using social media and blogging to create the following he has. He really is a genius when it comes to internet marketing, definitely worth checking him out just for his marketing strategies. Especially considering his recent success.

Also a pretty good lifestyle blog!
