Advice please - How much should I charge?

Hi, I was hoping someone may be able to give me some help.

I have a weight loss site which is on the first page of google in the Uk for a number of competitive keywords. I have had a call from someone from a large fitness equipment company based here in the UK who wants to place a text link on one of my aged internal pages.

He also is interested in placing text links on other health/fitness websites that I own.

The problem I have is that he wants me to email him back with prices, but I have nor done anything like this before, so I have no idea what I should be charging.

Be grateful for any advice thanks.

It's a bit hard to give blanket advice as it's a "how long is a piece of string" kind of question. It depends on many things like how much traffic do you get, how much competition is there, what are leads worth to advertisers etc.

However, when I've had questions regarding advertising prices on a site I've not sold ad space on before, I've gone and looked at prices offered by others in my niche.

Once I've gotten a feel for the lay of the land, I've then undercut all the other advertisers. You can always increase your price in line with demand for your ad space, but to get the ball rolling cheaper prices work well.

    Hi,
great news if your being asked to show adverts on your site.I have no first hand knowledge of this but the cost will be related to traffic going to your site. The more you have the more you can charge.I would wait for other replies to your question or google it but I wouldn't sell space on a good site for less than $50 a month.

It is hard to decide how much but it is best you will consider everything and consult some expert before deciding.

hmmmm, wouldn't you suspect that is why the question was asked on the Warrior Forum?

      Back to your question Paul.

How much money can you earn by posting links to affiliate offers on those same pages? How much can you earn by posting a link to your own product from those pages?

Can you earn $100/month? If so, the link is worth $100/month to YOU.

It is not a matter of how much the market can bear, but how much is a link on the same page actually worth to you. If it can create income for you, then the link you sell should be able to replace that value.

Not knowing your site, the amount of traffic, how well traffic converts to clicks, etc..makes setting a price nearly impossible.

Thank you guys for all your replies, I've got nothing to lose with this so I'll say $20.00 a month, if he accepts he accepts, if he doesn't he doesn't. At leasts its a bit of experience.

    Cheers again

    Here's an idea:

When you figure out your price (some great advice in the other replies), make it sound like you're cutting them a deal. For instance, if you settle on $50 per month, phrase it in a way that you're "coming down" from, say, $100.
