Need help please - Ads by Google

Hi all, my month of January is to ask 'daft' questions - so here goes No.2.

I've been learning IM for about 6 months and 2 months ago took action, today my site made it to page 1, it is just a back link numbers game now so hope to move up the rank soon.

After checking the No.1 ranked website I found the site didn't have much content on it, a few product images, 4 ads by Google, about 1000 word article and 5 side bar links to products.

I clicked one of the sidebar links and all that's there are 'ads by Google' - not that I want to copy this but instead increase my knowledge - can someone please tell me what these are, how you set them up and where the money is earn't?

Thanks all.

ps it's nearly Feb

Those are Google adsense ads, that pay you a bit over 50% of what Adwords advertisers are paying Google to have ads appear on their ad network. After you qualify for an Adsense account, which includes a confirmation # send by snail mail, you can setup ad blocks, I believe there's a wordpress plugin for it, and enter your unique account#.

The tough part for small operators is reaching the $100 min payout, which can take some months, if ever to get the 10s of thousands of visitors it can take.

There are 2 sides to this:

    1 - Google Adwords.

This is a free Google account that lets you pay Google to show your ads when people search.

You can actually choose lots of places for them to show - even on people's Youtube videos or websites.

When someone clicks your ad - you pay Google.

    2 - Adsense.

This is the website owner side.

Again this is a free Google account and you can get some code to put on your web pages. Google will then work out what your page is about and show relevant ads.

If someone clicks on one - The Adwords advertiser pays Google (like above in point 1) and then Google pay around 60% of what they charged them to you.

So by showing these ads on your site you make money when people click.

Just go to google and set up a Google account - when you login you'll see lots of things you can do and both Adwords and Adsense are options you can sign up for.

I recently received a $49 payment from google for displaying Adsense ads on my site.

You have to be careful where you place google ads though as they have a very clear Terms of Service. Don't place google ads in Traffic Exchange pages.
