INTERNET MARKETING

Here's a curly one. I'm a bit of a newbie and this shocked me. I bought a domain name from Namecheap quite a while ago. I then transferred it to my Hostgator account and let it sit there. I had not added the domain name as an addon domain to the rest of my domains I own. Well, when I typed in my domain name for something to do - it was already there and being used by someone else! I added it to my domain names and created a blank wordpress site for it and the other one has disappeared. Can anyone explain what happened and how someone else started using a domain that I own?

Sounds just like a parked page which is what HG does if you have it pointed on there servers....It was still urs just hey put up a genric page with ads in the meantime....Completly normal

Go to http://whois.sc/YourDomain.com and see if you own it. If you don't look at the history, did it expire and you forgot to renew?

Was it a parked page full of links? If so DNChamp gave you the right answer.

I get that a lot of times when I first point a domain to HG.

It was a parked page of links? Then it's nothing to worry about. It was never another person who was changing your site, just an automated page of ads.
