My company is working on a product I intend to launch in the next 60 days. The product in is the life self-help niche. I need some advice on how to package or present it, and what would have more value to prospective and actual purchasers.

The components are:

1. 230+ page main book, about 55,000 words, comprised of five sections: three describing the "system" presented, one with tips for applying the system of about 16 pages and a reference section plus a small number of pages for frontmatter, contents, and index.

2. 80+ companion workbook, divided into three sections that correspond with the book.

3. CDs containing audio supplements (study and guidance tracks) that correspond to the sections. Now planned on two disks.

There are some other smaller components that don't enter into this question.

The package will be printed; no digital downloads, and have a fairly high price point.

I've been thinking of separating out the sections with their reference, contents and index into four separate printed, wire-bound books. The smallest section would simply be a 16 page stapled booklet. The workbook would also be separated out into three corresponding sections. I would also separate each section's audio into separate disks. I know printed materials that ship in a big box often have enormous perceived value.

My question: would separate books add more perceived value for the price to the package or would a single book/single workbook be a better choice?

Production costs are roughly the same for either option, so that's not a major concern to me.

Any opinions, thoughts or suggestions are welcomd.
