Misspelled Domain Name QUESTION

I was doing a bit of Keyword research for a domain name, which I knew would not be available, it was for a very popular holiday and a for a very popular niche, but thought I would get some ideas flowing on an alternative.

I accidently mispelled the word and got the results of 110,000 monthly search volume it was a 2 word domain so I deleted the second word so the main word was there and it returned a 60,000 monthly search volume for the misspelt word.

Now considering this is a term used as a holiday time such as thanksgiving or Christmas or Halloween etc it is fair to assume that search volume would soar closer to those holiday times.

My question is, I searched Google for the exact mispelled term and google showed results for the correct word rather than the misspelt word so if I built a site with the misspelt word would Google show the correct search term (the mispelt word) or will it always correct the spelling and show the correct spelling results as opposed to the misspeled one.

    They should always say, Did you mean _______ with the link.

    But if you have an attractive title and description on the misspell, you should still get some traffic.

    Nope, don't think so. Most of the time, google shows up results that a relevant to the misspelt keyword. Maybe you might get some traffic from misstyped domain names instead of search engine. Just my two cents, let others give their views too..

      Here is a little case study (google the following in bold)

      noise cancelling headphones (mispelled)

      noise canceling headphones

      Both seem to deliver the same results in terms of the top 10 sites, but Google is not giving you the "Did You Mean..."

      Not sure what it all means, but I thought this might be helpful.

        Some people already "dominated" that misspelt keyword o,o..

        Probably because, in this case, "canceling" is an accepted alternative spelling of "cancelling". If it was clearly an outright misspelling, they'd probably serve up the "Did you mean ..." link.

        That's not a misspelling: it's simply a spelling that varies between US-English and Rest-Of-The-World English.

            I never quite know about Canadian English (though they certainly use many British spellings), but it always strikes me that differentiating - as some do - between "American English" and "British English" is slightly missing the point, the point in this case being that all the other English-speaking countries in the world, some of which are huge markets, of course, tend to use the UK-style rather than the US-style spellings.

    I agree with Bill and Hydroxide, here.

    Years ago you could rake in huge traffic and big bucks from misspelled search queries, but these days Google is smart enough - in the majority of cases, at least - to realise when you've made a mistake.

    By default they'll display the results for the search query they assume was intended, and it'll take a second click by the visitor to force Google into carrying out the search exactly as they entered it. Unfortunately, few people will do this having realised their mistake, and the result is that you'll probably receive only a tiny amount of traffic.

    Misspelled terms were great in 2004 but not so much now since Google essentially acts as a spell checker.
