any value in junk keywords?

Hello, IM newbie here, and my first post on the forum!

Is there any value in "junk keywords", keywords that have a really low PBR in Market Samurai?

For example, lets say my niche is carpentry tools. I have determined that the phrase "carpentry tools" (PBR 100%, Adwords CPC $4.00) has 400 daily searches, and competition is 70,000 other sites.

Also, "tools carpentry" (PBR 2%, Adwords CPC $4.00) has the same 400 daily searches, yet competition is only 1,700 sites.

If I plan on making an amazon site that promotes and reviews hammers/saws/nails/etc would I be better served using the former, or the latter as a MAIN KEYWORD to base my domain name and site content around?

Keep in mind the only true way to know the traffic a keyword gets is by using an adword campaign to track the impressions.

There are not really any junk keywords. All there really are, are keywords and you want to rank for them or not.

The way you build your site is for the people that are going to come there to read it and hopefully buy something from you or click on your adsense or whatever you are monetizing with.

And that makes carpentry tools a much better choice. Besides which, the way most people search, it doesn't matter much what order your words are in on your page because you are going to ranked for those words anyway, no matter what order they are in.

Listen to what you just said..."Junk keywords"

If you want "junk" traffic go for junk keywords. If you have the time to spend on junk keywords go for it. Or if you are using adwords or YSM you are just wasting money. on junk traffic and clicks.

I've tested this theory before. You will get massive amounts of clicks and very little conversions.

Don't waste your time or money on crap keywords. If you have the time though go for the organic ranking on the crappy keywords, it will be difficult since you have no relevancy for them, but why not, right?

most searches are unique, so there really is no junk keywords, the more content you have on your webpages, thats themed, and the use of lsi words, can have people finding your pages for a wide range of search terms.

I build my sites with user friendly content in mind, and use a keyword in the tittle, but its has other words around it eg:the best dog training device today

Forget competing for high comp terms, build pages with content and then backlink. if you build a adsense site, you want people to click on your adds, ok give them content, but the end goal is to piss them off, so when they cant find what they want, there click on the adds in the hope of finding the right product or service they want.

        Thanks for the replies guys.

This wouldn't be for an adsense site, I just included that in there with the example.

It would be a website selling Amazon products, with related content and reviews. I just wasn't sure if there is any benefit to using the reversed keyword phrase "tools carpentry" since they both had the same daily traffic, but this keyword had much less competition.

This is something I have ran into several times doing my keyword research in different niches using Market Samurai, so I thought I would ask to see what you guys had to say.

Thanks again for the responses, and any more comments are welcome too!

If the "tools carpentry" phrase has as many searches as "carpentry tools" then it's definitely not a junk keyword. However, using carpentry tools as the main keyword for that page would make more sense.

So, I would optimize the page for carpentry tools, but also for tools carpentry by doing the following:

In my page content, I'd at least write text like "...carpentry tools, carpentry articles, ..." so that you now have both phrases. You can subtly do this throughout the page if you arrange your text properly.

    Paul

PS - I also only use keyword tools for pure research and not as the final word on how I do my SEO. Software can't think so you need to take up the slack ;-)

Paul, thanks for that tip, hadn't thought of that!
