A Question about the Advantages of Wordpress or Blogger

I've been playing around with building a site on Weebly, and with your site you get a blog page that you can customize to suit you. In fact, if you want you can use just the blog page.

I hope my ignorance won't get me too many laughs, but I keep seeing people say that you should do your marketing blog on Wordpress or Blogger. Is this because Wordpress and Blogger have an advantage with the search engines? (Like ezinearticles, for example.)

If I were to put content with all the right keywords on my Weebly website blog and the same exact content and keywords on a Wordpress blog, would the Wordpress blog rank in the search engines more quickly?

There are hundreds of 'free blog platforms' that you can use and they all rank differently with the search engines... it's a good place to start to learn the basics and build backlinks to your own site... so...

The ultimate goal is to have YOUR OWN hosted blog, on your own domain, using all of the free blog platforms to link to your authority site... in the long run..

Why help build content for these already established sites, when you can host your own blog at your own domain, and help build your own empire with your own content???

    hope that makes sense...

Tracy, there are no significant advantages of one blog platform over the other. Some have better built in SEO features, that help your optimization. Generally speaking Wordpress is the best platform to use, based on its ease of use and how customizable it is.

Now for your question... If you put a blog at blogger.com or wordpress.com via their free hosting, you will have an advantage SEO-wise because of the PR of the main site.

However, it is in your best interests to get your own hosting, so you can have full control over your blog. If you don't you are at the mercy of wordpress.com's TOS (Terms of Service), which forbids commercial use.

So if you want to make money with this blog, then you best bet is to get your own hosting and install the wordpress platform. If you need help with this, just let me know. I'll be glad to help.

I strongly disagree that there are no significant advantages of Wordpress over other free blogging platforms - Constant development, thousands of plugins and themes, vast user base, etc.

I used to be a web designer in a former life (no programming, just basic HTML), and since I've discovered WordPress I've never even thought about using anything else.

Other free blogging services may be workable, but to me, the flexibility and expandability of WordPress is 2nd to none.

    Just my $0.02.

I probably should have worded that differently. You can overcome bad design with good SEO strategies, but in the end, WordPress is hands down the best. I certainly won't argue with that point.

The point of my post was to explain that you get advantages from being on wordpress.com SEO wise, and not just because of the platform being used. And to make certain it was understood what dangers exist with keeping the blog on the free hosting.

Use the WordPress platform on your own hosting. Not the free Hosting WordPress on wordpress.com, because you could get your blog shut down if using it for commercial purposes.

Okay, I'm getting a better understanding here. I'm going to do a little Googling and then research about adding the Wordpress platform. Though I'm an old hand at blogging, I've actually never used Wordpress.
