The Limits and Uses of Blogspot

Hi, everyone.

I've been poking around seeing what people think of Blogger/Blogspot (same thing?) and it seems most people recomend staying away for good reason (they own your content and they can and will shut you down without warning). The thing is, I've already got three blogs on Blogger. I started them before I read any of this. I know I can probably migrate my blogs to Wordpress, but I wonder if any of you can tell me if blogger is useful for anything. I've read elsewhere on the forum that Google will shut you down if you constantly try to use Blogger to point people to another site. Is that so? Can Blogger be used in conjunction with another site? Is there anything Blogger is good for? I take it you can't run an affiliate site on Blogger, yes? Just the Adwords ads? Are blogger and Wordpress the two best options for blogging? Is there anything else?

Just tryin'a get a clearer picture of what Blogger is good for. Thanks, guys.

I have a blogger blog that ranks higher than my actual site...soooo i really hope they don't shut me down! I try to make sure that I have plenty of content and not a ton of links back to my site, but I still worry. I would love to know if you can transfer elsewhere...would be nice to use my own domain for it even. But maybe in doing so would kill what I already have going on! Will be interested to hear the responses...

I personally think blogger is perfect for blogging about something not related to money. My personal blog is working fine with blogger and it constantly getting clicks via Adsense. I use wordpress for my niche sites but I am so much comfortable in blogger. By the way you can always add a domain and use your own hosting even if you are in blogger so getting your site controlled by you is not a problem.

No, they do not own your content. You are responsible for your content and retain full ownership of it. Google doesn't want to be a party to copyright violations and such and get sued.

They can shut you down but they usually give warning unless your violation is particularly blatant. However, have a blog disabled for a day or two while waiting for a manual review can seriously impact your earnings and traffic.

If it's a link farm, meaning just a list of links to other sites, then it might get shutdown. If the content is relatively useful enough to withstand a visual review and you don't trip any of the anti-spam parameters, which are numerous and aggressive, then you'll be OK.

Sure, you can run affiliate ads there no problem. Well, except that many affiliate programs won't let you run ads on sites you don't own, but that doesn't have anything to do with Blogger itself.

Also, I think you're confusing Adwords and Adsense.

Yeah, Adsense; that's what I meant. My bad. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. That's useful information.

Stay away from blogger. You'll lose everything that you've worked hard for. I've had that bad experience with them in the past.

Go with wordpress and host your blogs in your own domain.

Blogger is good for personal blogs. Wordpress is still the best platform.

Oh but if you do use Blogger, be sure to download the content from your blog every so often in case you do get shut down! Learned that the hard way!

This very true. I tried to set up a blog on blogger to promote a clickbank product. Only to be shut down with in an hour. Good thing I just set it up. So I did not lose much. Any suggestions on how to setup a blogger blog to promote clickbank
