I can't believe I actually had to do a Google search to get just a vague idea what document marketing is. It seems interesting enough, although I'm sure I don't quite grasp the concept in its entirety.

I'm wondering if this is a new idea or just something that I have been oblivious to for years.

Probably not as popular as the other medium. But like articles, we can actually create presentations slides or 5 - 7 pages of pdf documents and post them on slideshare and scribd to generate interest and hopefully traffic.

I will be trying out this technique on Feb and was wondering if anyone have tried it before.

Document marketing? what exactly do you mean.

Based on my understanding, every scrap of paper that leaves your business is performing a marketing function
