Open office problem. Throwing some weird codes when opening PDF? can you help?

I don't seem to get around this problem
. On a WF thread I was advised to use Openoffice to pdf documents as it keeps the anchor text hyperlink intact. I have pdf a document but when I try to open it, is asking me for ASCII filter options (see picture) and ends up opening a document made of coding?
Does anyone know how to fix this problem or perhaps suggest an alternative FREE PDF converter. The main thing is that the PDF converter should be able to keep hyperlinks in anchor text. (I have tried a couple of converter last night that did not keep them).
