My First 300 Articles Average a 35% Ctr. My last 80 Have Averaged 22%. Why?

Hello,

I first joined EZA in 2007. From that time until early 2010 I wrote around 300 articles. Each had an average ctr of 35%. Fast forward to last 6 months of 2010. My average ctr has gone down to 22% with the exact same resource box. This is with 80 articles and tens of thousands of views so I know that my sample size is large enough.

While I still making great money, it really makes me what could've changed between 2007, 2008, 2009, and then 2010. I just don't see how a resource box that performed so well for over 3 years would drop all of the sudden.

Anyway, I didn't even notice it until I was looking at my stats from last year. I am making more money than ever so it's not a big deal. I just find it kind of interesting and strange. What say ye?

No Idea but I wouldn't be complaining if I were you

22% is still an excellent CTR.

Perhaps more people have entered your niche?

You're right Ernie. I shouldn't be complaining. I think it's Alexa that says she makes more money with a lower ctr than she did with a higher one which is one way to look at it. I was just thinking of the 7,000 extra optins I could have had if it was higher.

A lot has changed in the last 3yrs and your hot button
might not be so hot anymore with new trends or thoughts
that have come up over the years.

  • Averages can be deceiving.

Perhaps you should have a look at the the high-performing and low-performing articles individually in order to determine where the problem lies...

If you are getting more traffic, you might still be coming out ahead of what you were before.

So if you were getting say 1000 visits for a certain time frame, and now you are getting 2000, you still end up with more people clicking through. I think as long as the click through is still reasonable, I would take the increased traffic.

On the other hand Justin Brooke's statement

that have come up over the years.
Makes a lot of sense, things do change, and 3 years on the internet is a loooong, looong time.
