Over 52200 views at ezine in less than 3 months with one article?

Hi guys,

I did a double and than a triple take when I saw the views this article has had since september 5th. I understand that this article has probably been picked up by a few big newsletters. However, I still don't see an article getting this many views in under 3 months.

Do you think EZA made a mistake with the number of views or is this another example of the power of article marketing?

Article submitted on September 5th, 2008 and Article Views now at 52656.

This is the article http://ezinearticles.com/?Laser-Acne...nce&id=1469973

I am in no way affiliated.

If these are the true stats on this article, what marketing lessons can we learn from this?

Case Study Anyone?

Robert Thorne

P.S I still think there must be some sort of mistake

      Hmm,

      Let's see...

      1. The article on Google first page for this keyword (from another marketer) got 8000 view since 2005...:

A Look at Laser Acne Treatment
This article has been viewed 8223 time(s).
Article Submitted On: July 13, 2005

      2. I had a look at some of his articles, and they wasn't so successful:

      Acne Medicine Exposed
This article has been viewed 59 time(s).
Article Submitted On: October 24, 2008

      3. His article is the first in the most viewed articles on EA, and the article just below him (2nd) isn't close to his (only 5767 views):

3 Deadly Reasons Why People Get Acne - You Will Never Get Rid of Acne Unless You Know This
This article has been viewed 5767 time(s).
Article Submitted On: September 12, 2008

      Conclusion:

I think he is promoting his article via web 2.0 sites,

      or

just like you said, he sent his ezinearticle to email lists.

      or (unrealistic...)

He is promoting his article via PPC?!

Interesting... I'll be watching this thread to see what other warriors think about this phenomenom.

Anyway, if the number are real, his recent articles (outside the acne niche are not so successful)

        ..
Franck, nice detective work but the most realistic conclusion is:
the person is manipulating the number of views to get the article on "most viewed" pages on that article directory.

It's VERY EASY to manipulate the number of views there. I don't want to give any ideas but it's TOO EASY.

Didn't Think about that James. I was so flabergasted that I had to get over here right away and make the post to see what the warriors thought. Personally I'm still thinking it's a mistake in the stats by EZA.

None of his other articles come even close to the number of views this one has received for this one so I'm really wondering what makes this one different? Could be an interesting case study for everyone.

      Ok Franck,

So we now know the numbers are probably real and not a mistake. Now all we have to do is figure out how these articles get the number of views they do. Is it as simple as your article being picked up by someone with a huge list? Or is there something else at work here?

      Any ideas?

He seems to be sending visitors just to an Adsense site though. Although that particular topic does have high paying clicks I doubt if he paid for a top position (although I could be wrong). I've had a few articles that performed like that and I didn't do anything 'artificial'.

I believe fully in the power of quality articles. I wrote one years ago for a client (no longer a client), that was about making "origami shuriken" It still gets 4,000 or so unique visitors each month, though I don't think it has ever broke 5,000 visitors a month.

It was created over 6 years ago.
    It was a stupid article
    It has bad web design
    The copy stinks.

I still think the actual thing (a saw blade like thing) is pretty cool ... 25 years after I learned how to make it. hehe.

it's on the first page of google no matter what way I try to type it. It's been stolen hundreds of times.

    Here is what I learned:
    1. having fun is the best thing you can do
    2. research words that pay
    3. monetize the site
    4. don't work for anyone on commission unless you have the ability to send them to jail when they don't pay
    5. people like stories blended with facts (I broke into class as a 2nd grader and did some corporate espionage to reverse engineer the star that "eddy" had originally made)

I don't understand all the doubt and disbelief about this article.

I also have 1 particular article that has performed in a similar way. over 1000 clickthroughs in 2 months from 10000 views.

I am actually disappointed with the click through rate but I like all these visitors

I think that sometimes the keyword and the way the article is written just hits all the right buttons.

Those astronomic view numbers are usually artificial..

They embed the article page on EZA into their other sites as micro IFRAME. So each time those pages are visited, the view count of EZA article increase at the same time artifically.

Some others buy cheap ppc for their EZA article page using general & irrelevant keywords & ads, say $0.01 each visitor just to inflate the view count.

When the view count reaches a threshold so that it's shown in "most viewed articles" list under each article, the article starts to get huge exposure and this time the view count explodes naturally....

I personally don't find the tactic ethical...

I believe this does show the power of article marketing but more impotantly it show the value of viral marketing. The op posted a link to this article that he had no affiliation with because he was amazed at the amount of views it had recieved in such a short amount of time. This in turn peaked our interest to view the article so we could find out if the writer had done anything special that we could possibly use. Also I noticed links to other high view articles being posted making them more viral.

I believe article marketing will always be very powerful, but I already knew that. What I got from this thread is exactly how powerful viral marketing really is. Thanks for the thread

If you mean my WSO then there is nothing unethical about my techniques. Please don't comment about a method without checking it out first. Also, it really depends on what is your definition of ethics in this context. If you consider defeating your competitors as unethical then I beg to differ.
Btw, I don't think this guy is doing anything unethical. He is just building backlinks to his article as is evident from 5000+ backlinks shown by yahoo siteexplorer. This actually doesnt harm ezinearticles, but helps it, so it cannot be unethical.

P.S I still think there must be some sort of mistake

They really must be raking in the dough and doing things to promote their article on ezinearticles using other techniques, I seriously doubt that it was ezinearticles alone that generated that amount of traffic from either being displayed in google etc or from their user base.
