How much profit should I expect for each person on my list?

Hello Fellow Warriors!

I'm building a list in fitness niche. It's not a "buyers" list or whatsoever. They're just general crowd who seeks information in my niche - double optin. Traffic is from ppc, yahoo answers, forums... I don't know if they're freebie seekers or not.

I've read somewhere that we should expect $1 per month for each person on your list. It sounds too much to me.

I don't have any product I just do affiliate promotions.

What's the realistic picture that I should expect, being a no-guru (but not a newbie as well), just an average marketer.

Could you please share your experiences?

Thanks!

I've found that targeted lists do, indeed, average out at $1 per person per month providing, of course, that you put the work into maintaining a relationship with that list and market products to them that they want.

However if your list is non-targeted then it will drop way below this. For example purchased general-niche safelists give you practically no return for niche products.

Do you build your list using a give-away product in the fitness niche?

Yes I build my list using some freebie in the niche (double optin). I collect & store their personal information like age, gender, goals (muscle, fat loss etc.) etc...

Maybe I can use this information for segmentation purposes later, when the list reaches a decent size?

.... I can't understand how to make $1/month per person.. Let's say the list size is 1000. To make $1000 I have to sell 50 items in a month to them (based on $20 commissions on average). It means 5% conversion ratio. Based on the %35 email open rates (which they say as average) it becomes even harder???

        Hi iworkhard,

You need to go one vital step further, that may solve your problem:

What you need to do is NOT to send your main list any offers, rather send them just promotions (free offers, incentives, bribes whatever) to join SUB-lists you created. Yes, i know it's called segmentation, in your niche it's vital.

Lets look at how you can achieve this...

Go to an authority source selling information in your fitness industry (like Clickbank)

I quickly did this analysis for you :-)

I looked at the Health & Fitness Market, at the number of products for sale in each sub-segment (under Health and Fitness):

        Here's the results:

        Addiction (51)
        Alternative (411)
        Beauty (133)
        Diet (291)
        Fitness (407)
        Medicine (104)
        Mental Health (315)
New Products (1299) Not yet classified
        Nutrition (177)
        Remedies (368)
        Spiritual Health (261)
        Womens Health (154)

This will give a great idea of WHAT the MARKET tells you are popular niches.

When you drill down each market segment, it won't take you long before you find the gold nuggets... by reading and studying the clickbank programs for sale you'll quickly grasp the gist of the market. Before long you'll be able to write highly informative messages to your sub-lists telling them of great products solving those burning (no pun intended) :-) issues.

        That's HOW you'll achieve your $1/subscriber goal.

If you want to know how I do this research in a few minutes, PM me and I'll show you.

        Regards,
        Gerrit

    Fitness is very competitive niche.
Your subscribers ae geneal crowd (as per your desc)
    They are freebie seekers.
You don't have your own product.

Right now it solely depends on your type of affiliate products that you are promoting. If they are needed by many people, then you have a good chance of getting 1 dollar/month/subscriber.

Try to sublists your list by

    *Gender,
    * Age,
    * Their interests of products and
    * Income.

Then you will have more chances of getting money from your list.

I'd ignore any answers to your original question, since everyone gets different numbers.

Ok but there should be some targets to aim, right?

What should one aim? $0.1 per month per person or $1 or $10?

I find $1 too optimistic since it makes $12 per year. I would buy every kind of paid traffic to my squeeze page if I know I'm gonna make that much!

Are you building a relationship with your list?

By this are you sending them regular content explaining who you are, and why they should listen to what you've got to say. Make use of your blog and twitter so thatyour list know that you're not some fatty with no passion for the health & fitness niche other than taking their money.

As has already been mentioned you need to drill down a bit further to really make the big profits as most of the sub niches in fitness are probably still million dollar markets.

Overall don't get hung up the value per subscriber per month, just focus on your sub niche and the more you build that list the richer you will become.
