How Many Affiliate Networks Should I Work With?

9 replies
Title says it all
I have a new website (my first) and I am in the process of signing up to 3 affiliate networks that are relevant to my niche.
They are: Amazon, Clickbank and Commission Junction.

I have located promising products on all 3 (1 on each) and was wondering how many products do promote on my site...:confused: What is the optimal number for you? What do you take into consideration when making the decision. Should I go by commision rate?

I opened up the 3 accounts just in case.
I'm am hoping you guys have some more valuable tips for me.
Thanks

    I don't know the answers to most of the questions in your post, so I'll be less helpful and take up mostly the invitation in the sig-file instead.

    I completely see "where you're going" with the site. I suggest that three things may help you, and here they are in reverse order of importance:-

    (i) You might post with a name rather than as "admin" (it costs nothing, and looks better);

    (ii) You might remove the AdSense, because it's directly competing with you, as well as giving people a way to leave your site which will earn you very little indeed, rather than staying there;

    (iii) In this niche, I think you stand little chance without building a list: you simply need to have a prominent, incentivized opt-in, preferably in the top right-hand corner of that home page, with an explanation of the benefits of opting in (in other words "sell it"). It's a terribly competitive niche and I think you're putting yourself at a huge disadvantage by not doing this.

    My instinctive reaction, to be honest, is "enough, already". Especially for starting off a first site.

    I don't know yet ... because I've only been doing this two-and-a-bit years. I have one site (my oldest) with 5 products, and to me that feels like "enough". There are advantages and disadvantages of adding more as the site grows (which it continues to because I add an article a week, or so, to it).

    I don't know. A year ago, I'd have said probably not; now I'm less sure. (Not literally commission rate, of course: I appreciate you're referring to "earnings per sale").

    I have a newish niche site, on which I sell a Clickbank product and a non-Clickbank one (both as an affiliate, both earn me about $45 per sale, and I know that some visitors have bought both). I remain nervous in principle about combining a Clickbank product with "other stuff" (the other one isn't an e-book) but so far it seems to be working, and my reluctance to do this in the past may have been mistaken.

    Sorry, not very helpful, overall, probably ... but you really must build a list, IMHO. Otherwise in the short-to-medium term you're chasing perhaps 15% of the potential income you could be chasing and ignoring the other 85%, and in the medium-to-longer term you're not really building up an appreciating asset nearly as much as you could be. Especially in a niche like this. This is far more important than anything else about the site or what you start off by promoting on it. Just my perspective.

      Ok, THank you very much for your input, I appreciate it!
      Regarding the name, how do I change that?? I wanted to change the header as well, however I do not know how to change all those things.
      I added my pen name to the end of the articles so people would still see some author name. I totally agree with you on that.
      I have no idea how to build a list, and I am to new to build one. I also don't have time to mainstain a list. so I just want my site up and running, making some money. I jut want to kick start it to a point where it will earn enough to pay for it's own hosting. In 2 months I will have much less time to deal with all this IM stuff, so I want my site earning some money by then. Is a few months time I will only be able to spend a couple hours a week on my site and all other IM related issues.

    I'd say the more the merrier. It gives you more options to test until you find products that convert well with your site.

    One suggestion though: I looked at your site; I'd replace your adsense ads with CPA offers like email submits. If you find one that matches well with your niche you can make $1.50 per conversion; rather then a few cents per click.

    Hi

    I would Have a standard call to action with an affiliate link at the bottom of each post, people are wise to advertising these days, but if they feel they linking a link for more information they are more likely too.

    Thank you everyone, I value your imput greatly.
    Regarding the CPA (Click per action I'm asssuming lol) Offers....Where DO I get them?
    How to I put them on my site? Currently, I am getting almost 1$ per click on adsense (0.91$ I think), and I also have another site that is sort of the matriarch of my niche offering 0.25$ (I know, it's not a lot) per click sent to their newtwork of sites.
    WHat I Was thinking is build my site around my monetizing features, with a priority as well. I would showcase the various products with commissions to people, then re-direct them to this other site for money, along with adsense litered in.
    I am not looking to get rich with this first site, I just want it to cover my expenses. I want to get to a stage where it is earning on autopilit 50-100$ per month.
    I am also earning good money per article on this site and other so That I can buy some woftware.

    I work with 10, I'm glad I work with so many because a lot of them have different offers. I've jumped around with these networks a lot, but have developed a lot of successful campaigns because of this.

    My advice, get in as many as you can, test and try different ones, see which networks best for you and stick with them.
