  It's kinetic typography. It can be done with Adobe Illustrator and After Effects.

The style is known as Kinetic Typography. Most of them are created with Adobe After Effects.

Best to outsource unless you want to get your head around after fx which take a while plus software is pricey.

you could get something kind of like it in any edit software that has basic motion controls like final cut express or vegas for example. You can push text around, enlarge etc by adding keyframes.

think i need to try one in a cheap package to see what I can do.

  just post a job at odesk.com with a link to the video, and you will get a lot of proposals in no time. it's faster and cheaper then to learn it yourself.
