Hello.

There are quite a few free autoresponders (just google for them) but as they are free to you they place their own ads on your emails you send out - doesn't provide you with a professional image especially when you have no control of what ads they place on your message.

Also, if you ever wish to change over to a professional autoresponders you basically have to get your mailing list to optin again usually with disastrous results.

This question comes up on another forum frequently and the consensus is don't.

Looks like you already found what you were looking for ... but just in case, search the forums for reference to "List Wire;" there's at least one thread around it. Last I read it was completely free, and the only ad was a link back to List Wire itself.

One of the folks behind it is Gary Ambrose, a very experienced marketer with a good reputation.

I don't particularly like the idea of using a free autoresponder for various reasons, but Listwire is probably one of the better free ones I've come across so far. Some people seem to like Mailchimp as well, but it does have certain caveats which may not appeal to you.

Guys, when it comes to business, cheap/free often equals more expensive in the long run. You do realise that in the future when you inevitably decide to move to a paid AR, you will have to get all your subscribers to resubscribe, and as a result, you will lose about 90% of your list, forcing you to start over again.

Honestly, if you cant afford $19 a month for Aweber or the $9 a month for Imnica, then why are you in business? Your list is the one thing when setting up your online business you need to get right the first time, don't be cheap.

    Chris

P.S. This WSO was started by the founder of Imnica mail and gives you the $9 a month warrior special,

      Agree with this ^

When I first started I went down the route of free autoresponders but it gave me a headache!

Either take that option above which looks knockout for $9 a month, or my personal favourite is Aweber.

I've heard the same people that use free autoresponders are also the people that buy $19.95 motorcycle helmets.

Falls under the heading of "It seemed like a good idea at the time."

Bill, these people are exactly who the "penny wise and pound foolish" idiom applies to.

That's just a play on words.
Looking at it from another point of view,
it's a bit like comparing a Rolls Royce and a mini.
They will both get you from point A to point B
Apart from the price, the only difference is that you're
more likely to tell your buddies you've got a Rolls Royce.

Try MailChimp.com. Around a year or so ago they went freemium and allowed you to use their service for free provided that you had under 1000 members on your list. They have an autoresponder built-in. If you have more than 1000 members, simply launch multiple MailChimp accounts using this Gmail trick. Did you know that with Gmail, you can have multiple email addresses all direct email to the same root email account?

Let's say your root is acme(at)acmecorp.com. You can also have these email addresses and any email sent to these address will be directed to the root address:

    acme+1(at)acmecorp.com
    acme+2(at)acmecorp.com
    acme+mailchimp1(at)acmecorp.com
    acme+mailchimp2(at)acmecorp.com

I think you get the point.

MailChimp hates affiliate marketers and it is against their ToS to use them for such a purpose. There are a lot of people on this forum who learnt that lesson the hard way and lost their lists completely without any warning or the opportunity to backup their lists.

Absolutely ... MailChimp is definitely to be avoided if you're doing affiliate marketing.

A business model which involves starting off with a free autoresponder and then switching to another one later is fundamentally misguided, because you can't move the list you've already made without them all re-opting-in, which typically loses about two thirds of them.

Free autoresponders (for very understandable reasons) have bad deliverability.

Choosing your autoresponder wisely is one of the very, very few things in internet marketing that you really do have to get right the first time, otherwise there'll be cost, trouble and problems later.

Aweber costs $1 for the first month and then about $20 per month. If you can't cover $21 in two months, it isn't a "business", and it would probably be better to start without one at all than to start with a free one.

      Just my perspective.

I used sendfree.com a while back. The basic service is free (ad supported), and you can upgrade to a paid-for (ad free) version later.
