where can I find some website help

Normally I use the paid version of freewebs, because im a technical dunce. so I decided to step out of my comfort zone and went with hostgator.

The support with host gator seems great so far, and I'm sure they are tired of hearing from me by now.

I have been trying to brush up on the basics, before I purchase coaching or some type of product.

I am usually good at figuring things out on my own, but its like learning another language.

I have been hanging out in different website forums, and ask a question they say,,, oh all you have to do is download an ftp, upload an ftp, set up a mysql or something I'm sure the information is great but I dont even know what the heck those things are.

What I need is some type of product with videos, that shows me step by step, preferably wth hostgator

I need the most dumbed down explanation I can get.

When you have a question, places to get help:

    Google search
    Forums like this
Hire a web designer who will answer/help you with these questions for a low fee (because it is just few questions and site help)

Just learn one by one. Not like you should know everything befre you do it.

Don't worry about the learning time. It took me sometime to start really getting it. First off wise choice stepping outside your comfort zone with HostGator, their support is pretty good.

The next thing you need to know is FTP = File Transfer Protocol. This is just tech speak for transferring files from your computer to the host's computer.

Basically you just grab an FTP client/program off the internet and it allows you to communicate with the host's servers(hostgator). An FTP Client you can download for free is FileZilla for Windows or Cyberduck for Mac.

As far as databases go it sounds like you want to install a blog. If that's the case just install using the Fantastico Button in your Cpanel. Cpanel is where you login to your site. On the left hand column it will have a button you click that says Wordpress. Then you just fill in your login information and what folder you want to install it in and click install.

Another tip I can give you is don't be afraid to break anything, they can fix it pretty fast at Hostgator at most 2 days. If you're looking for an overall simple site builder check out XsitePro 2. The only thing you have to know how to do is input in your FTP login information and click "Publish My Site".

      Good Luck.

Thank you that actually helped me get a better understanding on the whole situation.

I was in fact worried about messing stuff up, and I have had a good experience with support so far.

I figured out my wordpress blog, now I'm just having trouble installing plugins, and I cant seem to get my auto responder on the blog.

It is coming along slow but sure. I have a decent sized list, but I dont want to send them anything until the site is ready.

wordpress is my main reason for getting host gator, but I also want to be able to create sales pages and lead capture forms.

I also plan to have a few more sites in the future, so I needed good hosting, so I could just purchase domains for each site.

I will get the programs you recommended, and begin to play around a little more with everything.

good to know hostgator can fix any problem I may create, this gives me confidence to explore the site, and test things out
