Starting off from scratch...Where to begin?

Hello Warriors!
I've being a member for years, and after a hiatus from WF, I'm back and I want to transform from a lurker to a valued Warrior Forum Member.

My goal is to reach $750/month from ZERO within 6 months, and build on from there.
(Ambitious, I know but I think it's achievable)

My problem is that I want to learn EVERYTHING and I'm suffering from "MIO" - Massive Information Overload. I don't know where to start! (stemming from buying multiple guru products and reading free reports)

I see that many fellow Warriors making a living from loads of different IM fields and I need to decide on one and I just can't.

So this post is a kind of plea for help and direction from you experienced Warriors.
I know where I want to get (target) I just can't decide how to get there! (method)

Everyone's input is, as always, valued by me. I'm also not afraid of constructive criticism.

If I had to start from scratch which I sort of am... (I am starting over in a way)

I would try to find a few good niches. Settle on 2 or 3 maybe... Do your kw research and build a site for each niche you want to enter. Get sites up, monetized, seo'd, and then start building backlinks like crazy and keep adding content regularly.

    Hello MalBryc,

Well this is probably what you don't want to hear but you have to just get out there are start trying things. What works for someone else might not necessarily work for you.

This is something that everyone, that's just starting out, should understand. The bottom line is it's not the methods that work on there own, it's the person that has to make it work. Think of the method as a team just sitting there waiting to be guided and you're the coach.

For instance, someone that loves doing article marketing will more than likely do well in it while someone that wants to use article marketing to earn a living but doesn't really like doing it probably isn't going to get as far.

As always, do what you love and like doing and everything else will fall in place.

    Mal,

Right off the batt, you did something that few take the time to do: set a realistic, obtainable, and measurable goal.

If you don't mind me asking, what have you done thusfar? Those who are new to IM can easily become very frustrated because of the plethora of information (some good, some not-so-good) available to them. This is the inherent paradox of the online world: while you can find great information, you can also find a ton of garbage information, produced by those who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

      @imationx & @vrobinson57 - Thanks.

@LarryHaywood - Thanks for your advice and setting out a model to work to. I know the importance of regularly updated content is vital. I have a copy of 'Keyword Research Pro' that I can do KW research with.

@CyberSorcerer - Thanks. I think I just have to 'feel the fear and do it anyway' and just take action to find what works and what doesn't.

I've actually done a bit of IM previously but I never 'properly' took action. I've read/bought the works of Rich Schefren, Stephen Pierce, Mike Filsaime amongst others and I think that has gone against me because I've read so much information. I have a couple of small websites that I've had a while (but haven't being able to monetize) I also have a pretty established twitter presence. What would you further advise?

I think you have a do-able goal in sight which is the first step of the process. Buy a WSO with REALLY great reviews that has long term income and stick to it. Don't buy any WSOs until you have made good money with one.

Strip down the information to the basic ones you can understand and start organizing them into steps that makes sense.

    Here's a tip- don't do what I did as a beginner :-p

I didn't focus on an evergreen niche, nor did I really build a list and build a relationship with a list. Looking back on it, I messed up by not doing that... but oh well.

    So, here you go:

    1) Find an evergreen niche (doesn't have to be "the traditional" ones- can be bird watching, German sheperd training, computer repair, etc.)
    2) Start article marketing and building a list
    3) Build a relationship with that list
    4) Promote quality products to it. Preferably your own, but you can do affiliate marketing if necessary.

    Hope this helps!

Yes it can definitely be overwhelming when you're first starting out. The main thing you need to do is to take action while you're learning.

A simple way is to find a product you want to promote on Clickbank.com. Do some keyword research. Find keywords that get at least 1,000 searches a month with less than 1 million results on Google. (type in the keyword and see how many results show up)

Then create a website for the product focused around your keywords, begin creating blogs to target those keywords, write articles and create videos.

The higher the payout of the commissions of the product means the more money you make. Don't promote ebooks that only pay you $17 per sale. Find products that will pay you $100 per sale.

      Hope that helps...

I am no where near $750 a month so I guess I cannot comment but I believe by the end of this year I will be at $2000 a month this is my goal. I believe I can do it. In terms of what I recommend, you HAVE to sort out your niche. This was/is my main problem, dont get into the MMO niche it is not worth it in my opinion. (my biggest mistake.) Once you get your niche try keyword research then....SEO/PPC traffic! That simple..... lol

$750 a month in 6 month is a very achievable goal I would say. And since you are just starting out, make sure you do a little bit of article marketing or Bum marketing as it is known. There is something about this method, you learn so much about IM by following a simple method of Bum affiliate marketing.

Congrats on putting a number on your goal. It's much easier to determine success when there is a measuring stick.

Building niche sites and learning SEO would be a great place to start. Set up an Amazon affiliate account to monetize, learn to drive traffic, and there you go.

Do that effectively with several sites and you'll hit your goal. Remember that traffic is the key that drives everything. Without it, you have no customers for your product.

This is a common problem. So much stuff out there, so little time. The thing is you don't need to know EVERYTHING to be able to start applying what you've just read or learnt. For every hour you spend learning something you should spend an hour actually implementing it. As for where to start and who to follow, I personally would go with someone like Jason Fladlien - start small, create $7 products, and scale bigger when you become more successful later on.

Here is what I would do....say in 6 months time, I want to get to $750 a month (and yes, its more than realistic. You should try doubling that goal). If I were to sell a $27 ebook, that work out to be 28 ebook a month. Possible?

Step 1: Find a problem you can solve - (forums, best selling books etc)
Step 2: Create 1 eBook for optin
Step 3: Create 2nd eBook for sale (Worth $27)
Step 4: Give review copy to 5 influential marketers and get testimonials
    Step 5: Build your list
Step 6: add value to your list by providing short but useful information
Step 7: Sell to your list....

That's it...If you want to scale this beyond $750, just create another product that complement the first one and start an affiliate program....

Whatever you do, keep it simple. Sucess is a series of simple tasks repeated consisitently.

The advice of fated82 is a good one. If you follow this without getting distracted by the noise in the IM world, it is difficult to fail.

The easiest way to start making money online is to provide services. While building up this income, do internet marketing at the same time.

I agree...Let me add that nothing builds confidence like success. Many people find it hard to pursue many of the different IM methods as most of them take a while to yield results and more importantly...income!

Look into freelancing to get some immediate cash going while focusing on one Internet Marketing method. It takes a little time juggling but it's been the starting point of many Internet Marketing success stories that you see on here!

I actually have done freelancing (logo design) for the past year to limited success. I've tried a few freelancer sites but have struggled to win clients (zero to date on elance and crowdspring). Either I'm not dirt cheap or simply don't have the portfolio to back up my skills.

You've got a lot of great advice here so act on it. Like everyone I too
struggled as a beginner but earned a wealth of knowledge doing so. Here
are some of my take aways (in no particular order as such)...
    1. Be 1000% consistent. Remember (for example ) 1 artcilce won't cut it,
but 1 article a day or every three days or so done withe all the appropriate
marketing will give you the results.
    2. Youe list is your asset don't forhet that. Also, just collecting emails is
20% of the work in my view. You must email and provide your list top
value if you expect them to be responsive to you.
    2. (Super important) Spemd 80% of your time doing task which are high
yield rather than low yield. Like making and promoting a video tutorial
    over site beautification (for example).
    3. Start with a good SEO strategy from day one. SEO takes a little time but
the results are well worth it.
    4. All the traffic in the world is of no use if the content on your site is
worthless. If your content is good you'll start to build a community around
your site and your business will grow faster.
    5. Promote yourself and not the opportunity. This is a slower process but
the long term implications are profound.
I hope this helps. Remember these points are from my experience and
    what worked for me.

you need to settle on a good niche of your choice. No one can do everything. Focus on one or two things, and do that well.

choose niche. make sites. push them on top in search engines. convert traffic into dollars. good luck!
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[3245530].message }}
    • Not to be arrogant, but this will get you to that goal quickest and easiest without having to learn how to market, build lists, etc.

Build 5 authority (Adsense monetized) sites, 100 - 200 pages of unique content, minimum. Keeping adding 1 page a day to each site, spin the content added to your sites and submit to article directories and web 2.0's with anchor text. Choose your keywords wisely.

Adsense drips in pennies at first, but once you get traffic building, it's as simple as reinvesting earnings into more content and backlinks.

No crap content. Go easy on the Adsense Blocks, so they don't hit the back button, videos, images on every page. Provide value. Focus on big niches with money, go after all the long tail keywords you can brainstorm. Target 5 keywords per page.

Throw a few auto-scripts on the back end for more content after about 3 months.

      Get on it.
