My internet is down - frustrated!!

I'm here typing this on my iPhone. We're getting a bunch of snow dumped on us and now my Internet is down. I've got about 7 clients waiting for me and my services and I can't even get online.

I've been on the phone with Comcast twice today and they're saying it's the weather or my cable modem.

What do I do? I'm freaking out over this because I can't stand it when people are waiting for me. So if you're waiting for me, this is beyond my control and I'll try it again tomorrow. I'll go to Starbucks if I have to!!!

Eew, it's unbelievably irritating when you can't get online ... :p

Still, at least you can check email and urgent messages and stuff with your phone, which is something, I suppose ... good luck with the problem!

    • Comcast can be tiresome at times, can't they? Do you have any neighbors you can check with to see if their internet is down too? That should give you some ammo if both you and your neighbors are down.

A friend of mine had a Blackberry and used it for her internet connection for about a year. Pretty slick!

How much of the white stuff did you get or is it still coming down?

  • go to starbucks, or move to sunny southern california,

since it is weather, gues Comcast customer service can not do much about it now.

  • Just remain calm...get warm...

Then have a few beers and do another voiceover and actually share it with us this time!

  • Thanks everyone. You make me feel better.

We've got about 2 feet dumped on us this week. And yes I would love to move back to California. I lived in LA for 7 years.
  • Do you want me to do your job while your off (just kidding)? I know it shucks, but mighty big nature will always ==> us.

  • I hate not having the internet. Last winter my internet was out for a whole week!

Luckily I found a nice internet cafe that I could go to so I could at least answer customer questions. They had great bagel sandwiches so this winter I'm kind of looking forward to the internet going down.

  • Lol, it's actually funny to see how much we depend on internet. We can't think without internet anymore. If I had no internet for 2 days I'd already freak out.
  • I solved the problem you are having ... at least for most circumstances. I have three ways of getting on the Internet: dial-up, air-card, and cable modem. A bit expensive (about $110/mo) but I have yet to be without an internet connection.

Did I mention I *hate* internet withdrawal symptoms .

  • It's not just you. The Internet doesn't work for anybody anymore. I think they are going out of business.
  • Brian, I think I found the edge of it a couple of times last week...and the world is flat.
  • Yep, and no one can work at home if the internet went out of business. Time to go out and find "real" jobs.

But hey, it sure sucks that your internet is down, but only Mother Nature herself can control that.
  • Similar feeling when you have just exceeded your quota and you have more than a week to go before the due date. Now you have to work with a super slow speed. It happened to me and it's a very very painful process. Those big downloads were to blame.

The question for AFI is who on earth did you get on line to make this post?

  • It's been a month that I am using my laptop here out of town and I can only use my desktop during weekends. My internet connection sucks and there's a lot of limitations. Can't even upload videos on youtube... Slow internet is my worst enemy right now during weekdays...
  • The internet goes into cardiac arrest from time-to-time, due to a narrowing of the tubes caused by an excess build-up of spam and other deposits.

When temperatures are below-zero, the tubes can also freeze up in parts. The risk of freezing is especially high during busy periods, when 'net congestion regularly slows traffic to a standstill.

It sometimes takes several hours to find the stretch of tube containing the blockage, but once identified, Italian plumbers have a number of curative methods at their disposal which typically allow service to be restored within minutes.

I feel your pain. I have just about the worst ISP in Britain: they have a monopoly over broadband in this city, and there are no real affordable, high-speed alternatives available to us. Downtime, for me, is a regular occurrence.
  • Can you get mobile broadband in your area? If so maybe you should get it in case your main internet connection goes again. I use mobile broadband as my main connection and it's both reliable and fast.
  • I only have a good connection here from 12 midnight to 5 am..
  • That is exactly what happened to me last night! But its not my isp's problem or whatever, but my keyboard is not working! Sadly I cant use just any other computer for what I need to do, luckily we fixed it just in time before midnight.

    Goodluck on your problem.
