Obviously start with lots of great content. The more content you have that is indexed in google the better size funnel you have to drive visitors to your site.

    Article marketing

Posting on Forums with a signature that links back to your site

Blog commenting on relevant blogs. Also look for dofollow attributes on some blogs.

    Social bookmarking

    Twitter

    Host a blog carnival

Host a competition on your blog and twitter about it.

Make a Lens on Squidoo and use relevant anchor texts to link back to your blog. Also create a Hub page and a Knol page.

These are some of the tips of the top of my head. If you search these suggestions on the forum you will find mountains of relevant information. Hope this helps and good luck with your blog.

SEO also helps. You can find a lot of information on SEO by just typing questions in to google, asking here, or you can eve pay someone to optimize your site. And include everything the guy said above me, minus the blog carnival IMO - waste of time.

    Content is everything tho.

    Hazlan;

Start by building a presence on successful blogs( at least five) that are in your niche. Comment regularly (3-5 times a week) on each blog. Having a link back to your new blog.

The owners and regular blogggers will start to visit and then comment on your blog, further building your blog site. Nothing can replace the fact that building relationships is foundational to all business whether it is online, offline or both.

    Hazlan,

Don't forget to take care of the blog like it was your own baby! Post to it everyday if you can, if not then every other day.

Set off a block of time each day to promote using TKO's excellent advice!

Lastly, make sure you put out good content. Make it entertaining, informative or useful!

I don't know if I'd write off blog carnivals as a waste of time. Hosting only delivered limited returns for me, but participating in them has been pretty successful for me. That's especially true when you consider the limited amount of time it takes to submit a post to them. You will find that some categories of blogs are much better represented than others though. For example business and finance blogs have many carnivals, while carnivals about cars and motorsports are about nonexistent now (there were a few in the past).

Remember content, content, content. No page scraping.

Just build content for now. Ping a good list and tag a dozen social bookmarking sites with each post. You'll get a little traffic from that.

Then come back here 3 months from now, when you have 50+ posts, and ask about traffic. If you are still at it, then it's time to start working on traffic strategies.

But don't jump the gun. A blog less than three months old isn't worth the effort of aggressive traffic-building tactics.

I forgot to mention it before but video marketing is also a great way to generate traffic to your blog. Post a few videos on youtube and all the other video hosting sites and link them back to your blog. Getting backlinks from these high PR sites is also good for the search engines.

I'm not sure where you are with your SEO skills, but a way to start generating a lot of traffic is by putting in the SEO work on-site, submit post to digg and more than likely you will be getting traffic to that post within days from Google.

I have had a new blog start generating traffic within hours before. Just depends how Google is doing that day. This isn't the best way though because they are NOFOLLOW links, but it gives you an idea of how important incoming links are if you have the SEO work done on-site. I usually use this technique to show my clients how it works, and what I can do for them over an extended period of time.

    Good Luck

    Hazlan,

There are many ways to get more visitors to your blog like what fellow warriors mentioned above.

I suggest you focus on ONE method and be good at it before you try the other method. It's useless if you put only 10% of your efforts in 10 different strategies. The key is to FOCUS in one until you see results.

you need to have relevant and useful content displaying on your blog/website.
try updating that content on a regular basis as well, this helps your blog keep up to date with others and rank well on search engines.
try seo on a personal level,by giving Title Tags,Meta Tags etc to your postings.
    hope this helps.

I've just launched a blog after about two years of wondering whether or not I should.

It's really beginning to work for me only after two weeks. My only regret is that I wish I would have created it sooner.

I believe audio is the way to go rather than video. Why? Because Audio is the real theater of the mind.

Anyway, here's an example of what I posted today: BLOGCAST.SCOTTWOODSIDE.COM: Today's News - The twisted version
