Why the Big Search Results Differences?

INTERNET MARKETING

For certain search terms, Google's Keyword Tool shows as many as 1300 local searches per month, while Market Samurai and other tools show 50 or fewer for the same terms. Why the huge differences? Which is more reliable?

Also, when I search for those terms by typing directly into Google (and using "quotes"), I sometimes see as few as 22 competitive results, but when I click on the same term within the Keyword tool (and then add quotes), thousands of competitive results come up. Strange.

Any thoughts?

When you use google keyword tool, did you switch to [exact match]? For market samurai, it maybe showing you the daily search results. Anyway, I would trust Google Keyword Tool more than the rest of the tools. But still, even with Google Keyword tool, the real results could be totally different.

Your way of looking at competition is not very accurate. I would use Market Samurai's "SEO" tool to check for competition and analyze that way.

  You're right, I use Market Samurai for competition analysis. Of course, if Google only shows 22 competing sites for a phrase, there's not much to analyze. That's why seeing it jump from 22 to over 10,000, depending on when I search, is troubling and confusing.

  I already read on some place that Google always provide bigger numbers of search on the Google Keyword Tool than any other tool as Market Samurai or Wordtracker, and also say that wordtracker it's more accurate than GKT.
  
  Also you can search you keyword on quotes: "you keyword here" and then verify manually if the pages that Google say are for real, sometimes you go to the last page and find that some results are not very accurate, actually are less competition than Google shows, this happens a lot on long tail keywords.
