Question for Established and Earning Bloggers!

24 replies
Let's say, I have a blog on blogspot (my own domain name though!).

People say that Google loves content.

So, if I just keep on adding blog posts regularly...and NOTHING ELSE!

Would it really amount to something?

    You could work like that, I personally haven't tried it, but I don't know how effective it would be.

    It doesn't take a lot of effort to build up a few backlinks to your domain and the results are proven to work.

      Do you do article marketing, or hubpages and Squidoo - which one more than the other?

    Sticking primarily to one subject should help ranking more than blogging about everything under the sun, your subject will hopefully have revenue earning potential.
    To really become something you will have to accumulate some backlinks too.

    Here's a list from a while back, of bloggers who report their revenue sources.

    If you keep adding content then your traffic will eventually rise, it might just be thousands of long tail terms but even if they get 1 visit a day it slowly adds up.

    Stick to one content, remember to interlink your content (when it's natural to do) and still spend time on getting outside links.

    Yes, your blog will be successful if you have content that is interesting and fresh to your intended audience.

    Here's what I would recommend.

    1. Add enough content to your blog to captivate your intended audience for 30 minutes. Why? If you can get someone to stay that long, they're going to bookmark your page and come back to check on it. That person will also tell others that are interested in the same things on their favorite forum or social network to check out this cool site they found.

    2. A simple suggestion from a user will draw a much greater response than you telling people how awesome your new blog is. People like to be sold, but not by the seller. What sells products on Amazon? It's not the descriptions, it's the reviews.

    3. Blogger makes it very easy to put adsense and Amazon widgets everywhere. Don't go crazy with them, people are sick of online ads and flashy banners.

    4. If you want to get rid of the nasty toolbar at the top, follow these steps.

    1. From the Dashboard, click on Design

    2. Your design page will show up, next look under the main categories and find Edit HTML, click on that

    3. Copy the following code
    #navbar-iframe {
    height:0px;
    visibility:hidden;
    display:none;
    }

    4. Add it under the area that looks like this, you will need to scroll down a couple of clicks to see it

    -------------------------------
    Blogger Template Style
    Name: Simple
    Designer: Josh Peterson
    URL:
    ------------------------------- */
    Put Code Here!

    5. Hit the Save Template Button and View Blog. Goodbye toolbar!

      Wow! That was a nice post. A real heavy one. Thanks. I have already done away with the banners and navbar. Just have some affiliate program banners here and there.

    First off yeah Google loves content that is true but remember Google owns your blog if your using their platform. Bad things can happen like the deletion of your blog. Main point is do not spend a lot of your time on a blogger blog. They have their uses but not as a big money site.

    My first recommendation is start a self hosted Wordpress blog with your own domain hosted on Hostgator

    My second recommendation is to build quality backlinks to your blog related to your blog

    My third recommendation: Like you said content is king so update your blog often but make sure you own it!!!! Self hosted Wordpress again. You do not want to build your business on quicksand.

    Good luck!

      Yes but it can take a very long time if you have competition.

      I owned one blog, with excellent content, unique content, which i updated at least once a day, sometime 5 times. And 3 months later i was still fighting for positions on page 30+ something.

      The number one search result was a site with over 1500 indexed links and a very old domain. Plus it had adsense on it and i bet the site cleaned up for both itself and google.

      Jay seems to have it for me. Make sure you retain control, since you are gonna put such a huge amount of time and effort in.

      Perhaps I am being dozy, but I haven't quite "got" what you are trying to get out of this blogging activity. Until I have grasped just what your "outcome" is from this activity, it is kinda difficult for me to offer suggestions.

      I note that some others who have commented have mentioned Amazon and Adnsense, but I don't think you did!

        Haha...well, the very post above you says that I was just aiming at free organic traffic! Because all this SEO stuff is basically for this reason.

    It depends on a number of things.

    What you're writing about, the niche that you're in, the quality of your writing, how competitive the keyword is that you're trying to rank for etc.

    I started out with blogger but I have to be honest when I do a google search online I very rarely see a blogger blog up there these days.

    In the long run, it's always best to your your content on your own domain.

    Kind regards

      Perhaps you are right...perhaps people just use personal domain nowadays?! In fact, I DO!

      But yeah, do you know any that based their whole strategy on writing unique original extraordinary content alone? Let me know.

    It could work for you, but honestly content is only part of the equation.

    Then there is traffic, advertising, and link building.

    And don't forget monetization.

    The REAL money is made by giving away things for free, using them to tactically develop loyalty and trust, and promote products/services on the back-end.

    out of the 4 blogs i have set up recently, i have only performed article link building for 3 of them. at this time, i can tell you that the one that has no links built for it is getting no search traffic - well, maybe 1 every two days from some obscure longtail, but it does have lots of content that i am adding daily.

    my strategy is something of an experiment for this site - i want to see if i can grow it completely naturally using content AND a twitter feed alone. after 1 month it gets around 8 uniques per day from twitter and direct (meaning people are possibly bookmarking it or remembering the URL).

    My thoughts are, if I have 500+ posts, all tagged, I will have something like 1500+ indexed pages, and that SHOULD yield some search traffic naturally. it's a longhaul effort thats for sure.

    p.s. use wordpress not blogspot

    If you looking for free organic traffic here is a system you could use
    I used this system on a blog I have since sold.

    1. Post on your blog, your most interesting content.
    2. Create 3 pieces of content (spun concepts from your main blog article)
    and post on other sites like squidoo ezinearticles and youtube
    3. Find a Forum about your niche and post 2 pieces of helpful content. Also use for backlinks if possible.
    4. If no results post on prweb.com a press release. costs money but very effective

    There is a ratio for me its 5 to 1 . 1 piece of content to 5 strong backlinks. Make sure the backlinks are helpful and not spammy signature crap links.

    Sounds like work, but it works

    Yes, You are right, Google always loves content.

    But they should be error free, i.e. spelling error, grammatical error, etc.

    They should be unique. You may use copyscape.com for checking your articles.

    Then just share the articles in some high PR social networking site. It will do good job.

    You can easily share your posts to the social networking sites by using Google Tool Bar's share button. It is very easy and fast.

    I hope it will work.

      There's more to it than content. I suggest slowly building quality backlinks as well. I say slowly because the search engines love to sandbox sites that build links to fast because they consider it spammy.

      Once your site is more instated you can speed up the rate of backlink building because it becomes more trusted.

      Content is great but only part of the equation as others have said.
