Sure, maybe it won't work, but YOU have to test the method for YOURSELF. Thier results are not your results.

Great post, focus your efforts on just one thing. Keep persisting until you squeeze some coin from it.

There are a lot of methods to success in IM, which is why a lot of newbies run around like 'headless chickens' (so to speak) and never really tap into their space on the internet.

You are right on point here. the only way to get anywhere in this life we live is through hard work, persistance, and consistacy. If you learn how to embed those traits into your lifestyle then there won"t be anything you can't accomplish. To become successful takes time, and you have to be willing to put in that time even if you aren't seeing the results you wanted.

The most successful people in this world went through the toughest of situations just like the rest of us, but they choose to tough it out and find their way.

You have to do the same!

Thank you Barry for the very enlightening post. Sometimes life can be very challenging but like you mentioned it takes a lot of persistence and a willingness not to give up inspite of how hard situation might become.

The only way to make sure that things work out out for you is if you put in the hard work. Not everything is free, and everything comes at a cost.

I myself have fallen pray to this and still do sometimes. Like last night I was doing research on a new niche which would require a new monetization model. I stopped myself before I bought any domains, products, etc. Why? Because I still have two sites that aren't where they need to be.

I do not necessarily need to get the domains ranked, but I need to get a harder SEO push going before I move onto another project. This is hard mindset to keep, but it saved me some cash last night.

Nice post but failure is not the end. You have to use that failure as stepping stone for success.

Something I would like to point out from my personal experience is once people start something, they have an issue sticking with it or giving it all they got. There are plenty excuses out there. You just need to stop making excuses and do it.

Really no way around it. Once you start something, finish it correctly.

You've hit it on the head. Focus. We all fail to maintain focus one time or another. The big problem is if you cannot drag yourself away fromt he distractions and get back on track. Focus seems to be the thing many of us are lacking, and for lots of reasons. I agree there are problems, and I see quite a number of reasons, including the one you posed.

I think this is one of the most obvious ones, but think it hints at other reasons that may be more fundamental.

Everything in our environment seems to promote quick and easy. Look at the television commercials. Look at the way movies are constructed. Very few people seem to have the ability to focus on a single task for long periods of time. We (at least in the US) are conditioned to see things in little bites. Next time you are at a movie, notice that the scenes are short and choppy. You almost never see a single scene more than 20 seconds long without a change of view. The remaining media is much the same. Commercials and television shows with very short, choppy scenes. They may be tied together nicely, but you rarely see anything that focuses on a single viewpoint for very long (that 20 second limit again).

The popular media is always pushing the "easy button" or telling people they can. Many people (not just our younger folks) have been so indoctrinated by the media and other social mechanisms that they just cannot do a single task for very long. Boredom quickly sets in and with it's arrival, dissatisfaction.

The "gaming culture" doesn't help either. What do people really learn from games? Difficult to say. Perhaps they are just diversions for some, but for others they are a training ground. Instant gratification, means of using "cheats" to gain advantage, and often mindless repetition (and often violence) are prime features of many of these games. There are some that do involve rational thinking processes, but are typically not the most popular ones. I'm not sure whether this is an indication of where our society has gone, or whether it is shaping our society.

The glamorization of many sports figures hasn't helped much either. Every local school has a bunch of people that are going to be the next pro athelete. Though this path requires an incredible dedication and focus, this fact is very often ignored, then the kids cannot understand why they don't make it into the pro ranks and blame someone else for their failure.

We've moved away from the concept that hard work and focus will make us prosper. In it's place is what seems like an "entitlement" society. I see this every day. Kids get into college and get partway through a degree program, and then go out into the real world as interns. Many of them look at the internship as a way to party in a new place. Others seem to want to learn. Most typically look at it as a stepping stone to their new jobs. Most seem to expect that when they graduate, (with a Bachelor's degree) they will step into a well paid management position. No experience, very little information from their classwork, and certainly no real world experience about what it means to be a manager, but they expect it nonetheless. Someone has sold them a bill of goods. Back in the day, when I went to school, we expected that we would need to get some experience in the field before stepping up the ladder. Not so much today.

This all has parallels in the internet marketing world. The newbies coming along (and many of the people that HAVE been trying to build a business through focus and hard work) see the advertisements claiming overnight success without any work, and often press the "easy button". Unfortunately, by doing so, they not only encourage the people that create these unworkable products, they divert themselves from the path of getting anything done, of actually building their business. These "bad" products tend to make us all look bad, and drags the collective value of interent marketing down in many peoples' minds.

For myself, I try to set aside time for the diversions and such that would otherwise interrupt my activities. By providing time for alternative actions, I find I can focus on the direct business building activities. One example is posting here. While it can provide valuable insight (I often find inspiration while reading or answering threads here), it can also be an incredible time sink, if you let it, by taking you out of your focus, away from the needed tasks of creating or growiing your business.

-- Looking back over this before I press the Post button, I find I've allowed my focus wander quite a bit during my response. [sigh] My only defense is that this was done during part of my "other time" and not my "focus on my business time'...

Failure is an opportunity to succeed next. So don't be afraid to fail. Sooner or later you will get the reward.

I agree with you. They are amongst those who "looks busy and doing nothing". And if someone is not achieving the goals even hard work, this mean, his/her hard work was not in the right direction. That is why we must analyze our path from time to time make sure we have a right path before we would reach to our target.

I couldn't agree more. Focus and consistency is so crucial to success in IM. There is no magic bullet or pill that is going to transform you into a superstar overnight, and there is no easy way out.

Ironically, this is why so many newbies flounder for so long, because they're looking for a magical overnight solution to all their IM issues, which simply does not exist. You cannot avoid hard work in the beginning, and that is a fact.

Once you've set everything up and it is running smoothly and generating revenue consistently, then you'd be able to delegate tasks to other people and generally slack off (if you want to). But that is a luxury you'll only enjoy once you've set up the foundation of your business properly and launched it off the ground.
