Getting Myself Known as a Writer

Hello guys and gals.
I just wanted to know if anybody had some ideas about how I could market my writing services to a larger audience.
I write full time and this is my main source of income so massive exposure is what I am looking for.
I am not sure if we are allowed to mention other forums on here but if anyone can give me some good sites or forums, I would really appreciate it.
Kind regards and I look forward to hearing from you all.
Barry

It depends on what writing you do. Copywriter? Technical writer? Ghostwriter?

First thing is to create a blog. Post to it 3 times a week with useful articles to your target market. Make sure your name is in the domain so if people google you up you will be in the top 10 results in Google (credibility builder). You will also start to get some traffic after 3 months.

    Also specialize.

You can advertise your services here in the "Warrriors for Hire" Forum.

You're already a War Room member so the cost would only be $20. Writing for sites like fiverr is a good way to gain exposure, although not very lucrative initially unless you follow up with your customers.

  • Agree with setting up a blog with your name, though I would make it static, not post to it so often. It's just there for credibility and in case people google you up and having the exact match domain will make your name rank easily.
I'd also recommend you to post an ad in the warriors for hire section.

    And best of luck!
This is a good example of how NOT to do it.

I have been making my living as a writer for decades. I have done everything from brochures to books, and a lot of specialty stuff like web site, technical and educational writing.

It's my view that it is very difficult to make a living from online sources. Many IM people don't know effective writing when they see it, so they don't want to pay much. Sadly, there is a world of desperate people out that who are willing to write for 1 cent a word (or less) and many IM people are happy to accept that, even though the writer does not understand the English language very well or the subtleties of sales psychology.

So what to do? My advice is to find writing gigs offline in your area. There are companies that need brochures, reports and booklets done, and there are people who want their biography written. You have to turn off your computer to find these people, but they are out there, and they pay 25 cents per word--or far more--for your services. You will also find there is little competition. Once you get a following in your region, jobs flow in by word of mouth.

If you want to try to make money online by writing, don't work for others. Use your writing skills to create your own product and market it. That has the potential to be far more profitable than anything else you can do.

As far as I know there is no issue with mentioning other forums. You can try Digital Point or **********, but....Without a doubt you are already on the premier site right now.

I have one major problem with your question, and another with your post in general.

The problem with your question can be found by looking to the right of your post. You have been on the Warrior Forum since July and you only have 33 posts? Your number one method to increasing your exposure is to ANNOUNCE YOU EXIST.

Now, the problem with your post in general. Look at the bottom of your post. WHERE IS YOUR SIGNATURE OFFERING YOUR SERVICE?

You are sitting on a goldmine but you are not taking advantage of it.

Post a "Warriors For Hire" advertisement. Link to it in your signature. Begin contributing helpful posts every chance you get to create exposure to your product offering. Watch for people asking about quality writers and contact them.

You do not need more forums, you need to start using the one you are on.

Now, you have a choice...Did I just give you a rant, or is it the advice you need?

    Go get 'em!

    Barry

P.S. I just learned an important lesson...There is a forum I'm not supposed to mention..

I too, think it would be good for you to let us know what kind of a writer you are.

There is a ton of work, in all niches and areas of writing. My opinion, and what I look for when I hire a writer is:

    Samples of their work.

It is the only tipping point for me. What have you written? Where can I read it?

This may or may not be of help to you...

I once attended a workshop by a NY Times best selling author (paid a decent amount to be there for the day)...he started the program by saying this:

"Writer's write...what the hell are you doing here?"

And it resonated with me...so I stood up, saluted him and started to leave...and he said to the crowd...

"There appears to be at least one writer who showed up today."

I found out from other attendees, THAT was the highlight of his workshop.

WRITE. Don't let a day go by and then find the groove you want to write in and simply do it. If it is work you are after, fish in the pond where the fish are at.

And bait your hook with targeted writing.

    gjabiz

PS. Perhaps you'll get better advice if you give us a little bit more about what kind of writing you do.

I don't have a degree in writing but I make about $500 a week just for writing press releases and distributing them. I get results on thousands and thousands of sites which is used both for traffic and back links. The key to making money in internet marketing with writing is to be able to offer more than just writing. Build up a database of submission sites and see which syndicates the best and gives the best results and just keep evolving!
