The Fringe Benefits of Being in IM

So yesterday I'm walking my dog through the big park near my house. It's cold and snowy and there's practically no one around. She still loves it even though she's all of 7 lbs and knee deep in snow.

I turned around hearing some footsteps and was clocked right in the jaw. Needless to say I was caught off guard. Apparently 3 guys were running around mugging people for money. I happened to be in the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time.

I was roughed up a little but not seriously hurt or anything. I'm quite alright today. The good news is that I don't carry cash! They left after realizing that fact.

The fringe benefit of being in IM is simple. At least we only have to deal with bots and hackers who just want to steal passwords and credit card numbers. Paypal may have terrible service but no one has tried to beat me up over that password.

Anyways, that bit was purely for entertainment value. I digress.

A little something I've been testing with backlink building...

I know Matt Cutts vehemently denies that nofollow links affect search results. I've been doing some testing on a few sites and while I haven't controlled just this factor, I'd have to disagree. I don't think they directly increase your rankings per se but not having any nofollow links certainly makes your backlink profile look pretty suspicious. I've found that if you have nofollow links, they certainly seem to help with rankings. Go against the grain and keep building links of all types and be rewarded.

I know a lot of more advanced warriors probably around know this but this is sort of new discovery for me and I thought I'd share.

I hope a few of you found my discovery useful.
