This for example. Lansdowne Park Conservancy of Ottawa | Conservation Parc Lansdowne d'Ottawa it needs to be converted to wordpress. What would you charge for this job?

One of my programmers tells me it will take him 20 hrs.

    You're kidding right?

It doesn't get much simpler than that site.

You could do it yourself in less time than that.

You should be able to get this done for under $50 - it's a really quick job.

Your design is really simple and there's hardly any content. Your programmer must not be a web designer - not that you really need to be with WP anyway.

Twenty hours? Is he talking regular people hours or programmer hours? Apparently, there is a difference.

It looks like a very small job - an hour or so for the whole job I would reckon. I have created bigger sites in half an hour.

The point about Wordpress is that it is very quick and simple to implement. Is your programmer thinking you want him to create a custom CMS from scratch?

My client got back to me with full details.

It's not just converting it to Wordpress. It's almost like a do over, with same content, plus extra features/content and also has to be bilingual, English/French.

So it seems like not a small thing after all. I hope I didn't scare him when asked him of a certain percentage of money up front and the rest when the job is done.

Closing the deal is the best part. I think I am beginning to like consulting even more than doing actual designs.

Always a good idea to ask for half up front. That way you are BOTH committed to the project
