Is that Really the #1 reason I am failing?

I have been struggling to get my blog off the ground, and nothing on the warrior forum has really been helping me. I have been looking for help to get on my feet and I really haven't been able to find the help I need on the forums.
I need something that gets me setup. Some sort of basic system to get me off my feet, going from $0 and little knowledge to getting my own site.

I have learned a lot from the warrior forums but I haven't learned the basics I need to get my business off the ground.

So I am thinking that the real reason so many people find it difficult to start IM is because there is no clear cut system for figuring out the basics.

Lets say that you give instructions for making a little money on fiverr or squidoo. Why don't you create a "not to do" list rather than just a do this, this, and this type thread?

Earlier I was reading a thread on bringing in traffic with squidoo. Someone commented and said along the lines of 'if your not getting hits on your squidoo pages, you are doing it wrong'. But they never gave any examples.

I figure a system that has a guidelines on how NOT to do things will help newbies immensely more than just a "follow this and you will make money" type system.
So does anyone know of any threads that have a system for getting started?

There ARE clear cut systems for finding out the basics. First find a hungry market. Second, understand what it is they want or need. Third, either create or find a product that gives the market the solution to their problem. Fourth, build a list while doing this so you can continuously offer good valuable content and products to your list over and over while building a strong relationship. It's pretty simple, cut and dry.

Quit looking at the next best latest and greatest thing to come out that people want to sell you. Focus on building your business. Take the RIGHT KIND of action (see above) and don't stop. Pretty simple.

Are you talking about the blog in your signature? You don't have nearly enough posts to even start worrying about making money. Focus on filling that baby up. As you do that, you'll start attracting traffic and maybe then things will start looking up.

    Having said that...

Does the world need another tech blog? If so, how is yours different from the other 500 million currently out there?

Not to mention, if you are serious about making money with a blog, you will get rid of the blogger blog and get a domain name and hosting and put up your own blog. Blogger has a tendency to frown on blogger blogs that people try to sell products off of. Just some food for thought.

Yes its the blog thats in my signature.

How many blog posts would I need to actually consider it to be filled up?

That requires money, which I do not have. I am not selling anything at the moment, I figure I need an actual following before I start marketing to people.

OMG it requires some money! yeah it requires about $10 per month for hosting and $10.15 one time for a domain name. If you aren't willing to invest less than $25.00 into your business, maybe you should not be trying to build a business. Most people who are flat broke (which I am sometimes also) can scrape up $22.00. Sell something. Borrow it, or do a job for someone. Sounds like you are making more excuses than anything.

You're right, I was making excuses, though it was unknowingly. I just cut a few extras out of my budget for next week and I realized I had $25.00 I could use. So I just bought hosting. Hopefully hostgator is better than ipage.

Hostgator is very good...I love em...now go get a domain name from namecheap (namecheap.com) (Mods I'm not an affiliate by the way)

When i started with IM some years ago i was flat out broke.

I moved to another state, so i had to quit my job. I didn't have any income.

I was so broke i did not have the few dollars for a domain.

I got me a few domains through a site where i filled out surveys. I used a free hoster.

I made many web sites (pathetic ones because i was a noob ) and NOTHING of all of that cost one penny.

The internet is the prime example of a ZILLION of opportunities of things you can do which dont cost you ONE SINGLE PENNY. You can sign up at clickbank and many other programs, free.

You can make web2.0 sites, free. You can write and submit articles, no single article directory charges anything.

If you don't SEE those opportunities right there and instead focus on "How much do i need to spend to..." <--- you have the totally wrong mind set.

The same applies to thinking whether you can spend $10 for an article...or $97 for this or that program...like you are blind seeing that you can get the ROI back many, many, many times...so people need to haggle because they think $10 for an article is too much...or $100 for a niche web site is too much...etc..

Its the wrong thinking. Priority is not "HOW MUCH CAN I SAVE"...but "HOW MUCH WILL IT MAKE ME". (And by the way, you can always make some quick money providing services to purchase things you urgently need)

Lots, man, lots. I can't give you a number but a lot. You are competing with countless other similar sites that have years and years worth of content.

What you may want to do is find a way to put your own spin on your topic.

For example, if you had a weight loss site you'd be in the same predicament BUT if you built a weight loss site for working women over 50, then you might have something.

So the trick for you might be to find a similar way to narrow down your niche a bit.

Your mileage may vary. Don't worry about the total number of posts...work on publishing fresh content on a regular basis. For now, put a minimum of three new posts per week on your blog, updated the same time and day (Example: Monday-Wednesday-Friday, posted at 9am your time). If you have the time it would be even better to post Monday through Friday.

Speaking of content...if each of your posts are between 500 and 1000 (or more) words you'll be ahead of the majority of bloggers out there, and will see your site rise in the search engines accordingly.

I checked out your site and I think you have a real opportunity to teach what you already know while bringing your readers along with you as you learn new things. As has been mentioned many times in several recent threads here on the WF, remember that you're writing for people, not search engines, and the traffic will take care of itself.

          Will

Well.. just to be honest, you should go get a domain and buy a premium theme and start commenting and guest posting on blogs that had the same niche as you do, if not, i guess ur blog won't even make it to a basic plus level, I'm not trying to push you down but, making money online is not a step by step system that you can never failed, you need to find multiple system and see which steps suits you and start building... I believe there are 1000 plus threads if you can't find a solution to your online business in WF, I guess you can go find another forum...

Hi! I'm fairly new myself, I like your blog - re: info, you know your stuff. As for sales...well, I think they come with time, and a lot of learning. From your post here, it doesn't sound to me that you are far enough ahead of the game to be earning just yet.

There is no real 'plan', either on what 'to do' or what 'not to do', because you are marketing toward people, and people cannot be completely predictive in their actions, which is why this is often referred to as a 'numbers game'.

I try to follow anyone who I feel has value, who is trustworthy, I post comments on their blogs to build my rep rather than my business, if I do this enough on it's own, with no other advertising, then it will create some interest, but this is marketing, and time is the key, so I am creative with what I do with my time! Article writing is important, as is setting up multiple blogs, maintain a main site/blog daily if possible, write around similar topics, you know your stuff so expand your writing to include a wider range around computing tech, you would do well to consider creating some product review sites to lead customers toward the best product. Maybe some 'scam' aware sites, that inform your potential customers about what to avoid and what to 'go for'.....I don't know, I am no expert, these are just ideas that may help.

Use safelisting sites to gain instant traffic to your main site/blog, traffic exchange sites work well if you only promote with squeeze pages, text ad exchanges, classified ads, the opportunity is endless, it is only restricted by your own creativity, and motivation, nobody will do it for you. Period.

  • If you are making no headway go get a Hubpages account and write there. Sure they take a cut, but they are an authority site, they let you work with Amazon, Adsense, Ebay and incorporate your own Affiliate links.

The most important thing you can do then is really dig deep into keyword research.

Marketing for profit is all about finding viable markets then matching products to user intentions.

    Because people are stupid.

You tell people "Do A, B, and C. Do not do X, Y, and Z."

And some moron goes out and does P, B, and J.

And then he comes back and says "I didn't do X, Y, and Z. And I did B. Why didn't it work? And why is my keyboard sticky?"

So now you have to say "Don't do P and J either."

And then someone comes in and says "Sometimes you can P instead of C if you just do D first."

And you have to say "well, that's the wrong target, because if you P and don't C after you do D you're pointing it in the wrong direction."

Jason Fladlien has some great information on various things, some of which are DO NOT DO THIS. He has a free 32-short report package (directed toward people starting out) that will give you lots of good things to do and not to do, and give you some ideas of what paths you could choose in IM.

This is his blog. There is a sign up for the 32 free reports in the upper right. Jason Fladlien's Blog

For determining your overall direction, some of the posts in this thread are probably better than what you can read in Jason's reports. At the same time, you can pick up a lot of good advice in his free reports.

I think a big part of it is that there are so many different ways that you can do this business, that people have trouble choosing their right path. Just take one program that interests you and just shut your mind to everything else and just get to work. Follow the program and don't give up.

I was a lot like you, and I finally found something that was my passion. I worked on it for a while and finally broke through and in one month I made about $4,000. This was the first money, other than one sale on Clickbank, that I made on the net. But two or three times I was tempted to quit that as I was facing some real problems and had to overcome quite a bit. But I keep plugging on and finally cashed that pretty decent paycheck. I am trying to repeat it again, as this business is all about rinse and repeat. I hit another road block, but I learned not to let that stop me.

Not sure if this was any help or not, but I felt prompted to post it as it seemed to fit in my mind.

When it comes to build your business, it's not that easy. You need to work hard for this and try something that is in good quality. Self-hosted WP blogs are better than free host blogs like Blogspot.

Take your time to build your real business man. Needs a lot of research and analysis to get things started.

You seek help from here and there and that shows me you are in need of knowledge which is fine but you got into something for reasons that may not even be valid...

I think you have to ask yourself which methods that would suit you best because there are just so many ways/methods out there.

For instance if you have a flair for writing, it would make sense to try article marketing first.

If you are a social network (twitter/facebook, etc) buff, you should study a little on social media marketing.

If you have a knack for building blogs or websites, you can try the Clickbump/Xfactor method.

If you have loads of extra cash to spare, you can even try Adwords or any other PPC advertising.

The key is to not just find a money making system, but to find one that WORKS FOR YOU!!

      Good luck in your endeavors!

p.s. there are lots of threads on this forum sharing newbies success stories. Here are a few to get your inspired. Amazon + SEO, ClickBump, CPA, article marketing,

If you haven't learned some of the basics on the forum, you should use the search feature. I am not being flippant about this either. Don't underestimate seemingly obvious advice. The basics have been gone over for whatever you want to in Internet Marketing, over and over again on this forum, for years.

When you have a specific question you need answered you have one search box to search the whole forum and another to search a specific thread, under it, at the top of the post .

Find them, use them and then come back and tell me you can't find basic info on the forum.
Blogging, coding, website construction, free ebooks, and on and on.

If you own a tin foil hat, there is even the off topic forum, if you need a good laugh or ask a question of someone that may not fit any where else.

But please don't tell me that this forum won't help with the basics.

One of the most useful set of tips is "31 Days to Build a Better Blog" on the Problogger website. It is available in ebook format for $20.00 or so, and is also available in the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog catagory (but without the additional comments/explanations the ebook has.)

I would consider ProBlogger a pretty much must read for people interested in making money from their blog.

And I second what Roaddog said about search! Just glancing at a number of the subject headers shows a number of people who either don't know how to search, or are just looking to make conversation.

Personally, I think search is close to the #1 skill needed for internet marketing ... right behind mindset.

Where do they look for services like this?

How are you going to get them to look at you?

What do you offer that is different/better/unique from what they already see when they search for this kind of service?

One problem is you're focused on getting your name out...not on giving great service, I'm afraid you, like many IM newbies lack basic business understanding and haven't asked yourself the right questions before you jumped in.

This thread may be a good read for you, it covers the BASICS of what another poster said succintly...

    Market first.

Who? What? When? Where? and Why YOU?

For being the best, I also think you should first think for your service or product because consumers are always looking for the service and product and they want to know more about service and they are not interested in your name....so try to make your features really impressive and later in this forum too you can find variety of things that can help you a lot….

I am actually working on solving this problem daily with my blog. I offer a very comprehensive ebook for visitors on article marketing which goes over the dos and don'ts.

What you're asking is precisely what I want to learn to answer, thank you for the post as reading someone put to words what I presume people want has proven immensely helpful.

I can tell you from my own experience that in order to make
a blog take off using SEO you need to post fresh content
regularly and use your main keywords.

There are other ways like, leaving comments on other popular
blogs and writing for popular blogs.

You just have to work on it for a period of time, if after a
couple of days you are not getting the results you want it
doesn't mean that it doesn't work, you have to keep doing
    and try different approaches.

    Thanks,

This is the problem, not the reason for the problem.

IM 101--No matter what, here are the basics:

    1. A product or service people really need (NOT one you think they need or want).
    2. A way to deliver that product or service (for us the Internet).
    3. A method to drive people in need (qualified traffic) to the place where you deliver the product or service.

That's it, no more. It's not rocket science.

Do these things well, don't get side-tracked, and you will succeed. Hard, smart work is needed, that's needed in any business.

First, I want to say that the Warrior Forum is the best thing that ever happened to me. Second, I made the same mistakes that every newbie ever made:

      1. Shiny new object syndrome. This means that there will always appear to be another "system" that is better. So you may drop off the one you've been working with instead of following one system through to completion and seeing if it worked.
      2. Being fed the wrong information -- such as that Google doesn't like duplicate content. That's wrong -- they just don't like duplicate content on THE SAME SITE
      3. Ezinearticles TOS - That ezinearticles would not accept content that has been published before. That's wrong - they just want it to be content YOU wrote, not something you bought or lifted from somewhere else

When I started out, all I wanted to do was get accustomed to regularly writing good content. I chose a free WordPress.com blog and didn't post affiliate links at first -- just concentrated on writing about a subject I was passionate about and had experience with. It was slow going increasing traffic -- but then, I didn't know anything about SEO, backlinks, the importance of visiting and posting on forums that related to my topic, etc. After 3 months, I purchased a domain name and web-hosting services. I exported my free WP blog and then imported it into my new WP.org site hosted at Blue Host. I was now free to put advertising and affiliate links on it.

I believe that good content is the most important factor in drawing traffic and in showing Google your site has great relevance to what people are searching for.

Am I making good $$$ now, after 1-1/3 year? No -- I wasted time chasing rainbows and getting confused -- but I AM selling. And I'm only just beginning to understand the incredible importance of SEO and how to apply it. Had I been able to apply it when I started, I'm certain my sales would have tripled. But this is a learning process, like any other. And businesses offline do not start up and immediately make a profit. One has to expect to invest in startup expenses and to follow a reasonable plan. One also has to expect to deliver reasonable and desirable goods in order to stay in business. And even if you have those goods, if no one knows it, it does you no good. In the meantime, there are FREE tools out there which will get you by nicely until you can afford to invest in other tools.

So, hang in there. There is much to learn and many roads to get sidetracked on. I have been reducing my subscriptions to many sites and I have found a handful of people who are gems in this business. I will stick with them because they really do want to help and they provide value.

You have very few articles, to start worry about the traffic in the first place. Also if this is your first blog and it's up for less than 6 months I wouldn' worry about traffic. Focus more on learning SEO, Copywriting and write an article a day.
After three months you can focus more on traffic, then on conversion etc.

Hello Theory5 I read your post an the comments and I have to say I know what you're talking about.

I sold an ebook about 5 years ago and hit a home run 4 to 10 per month at £47 but that was only because of the relationships i built up on the Business Networking | Ecademy forum 2 years before that. All the traffic came free.. you can see the squeeze page for the ebook Is networking rely a kissing frogs game

I had a very successful vip networking business at the time making me around £10k per month so internet marketing was just my "fun" thing so i didn't take it seriously.

I bought loads of products learnt fast traffic systems in the hope of generating easy cash online and the only one who got rich was the guru.. i guess most of these systems get you poor quick...

Do the basic behaviors every day .. build the relationship and make money.. build a list offer something of exceptional value for free that you know a lot about.

People will not buy fresh air or rehashed info. it has to be you talking about your passion or profession.

Have a look at my video "Free Video : Why Your Internet Business Is Not Making Any Sales Despite Your Best Efforts " on Learn Why Your Internet Business Is Not Making Any Sales

You can opt in and see what not to do and i hope you enjoy it...

I'll also be hosting a webinar on this very subject...

you can always skype me claude.bonte3 and i'll be happy to offer help based on my past failures and successes.

Enjoy your day and all the very best of luck :-)

I know things can get a little confusing with internet marketing, but this is part of the learning process. The term "step by step" is somewhat of a misnomer, because one cannot truly cover every single step of a process in a report, since you'll probably encounter unique and different circumstances while implementing the system that the product creator may not have anticipated.

There is absolutely no way to be "spoonfed" everything there is to know (including what not to do) before you implement an IM method. You learn as you do it, and this practical knowledge often comes from making mistakes and encountering failure along the way. Do not be afraid of failure, because this is what will ultimately lead you to success if you stick around long enough.

Think of IM as being very similar to learning how to drive a car. You can read all the books and study all the theory behind driving a car safely and efficiently, but unless you actually get behind the wheel you'll never truly know how to do it. Just 10 minutes behind the wheel is priceless in terms of your driving education, because you acquire practical knowledge through doing and also making mistakes while driving. You learn far more through practical application of your knowledge while driving, and the very same process applies to IM.

IM is just like learning to drive in many ways, so don't think that you can escape failure just because you learned enough beforehand. Failure is a natural part of the process that will eventually lead to success, as long as you don't quit halfway through this.

    Theory 5,

I visited your blog and you do seem to know your stuff when it comes to computers. This is a very good thing if you actually enjoy writing those articles and how-to's.

I would make sure to post on a regular schedule. Meaning, Mon-Fri or at least 3-4 times per week.

Like many have said, don't expect your blog to explode with traffic since you're just starting out. Just focus on continuing to provide great content that your future readers will like and benefit from. After a few months doing this regularly, your posts will start receiving traffic from keywords you weren't even targeting in the first place. This is where not writing 100% for search engines comes into play.

Also, you're already doing something that is bound to help you lots with traffic, guest posting. Find high-traffic technology blogs and hit them up with a request for a free blog post/article and include your backlink in there. Many of these blogs are more than happy to accept user-generated content because it helps build THEIR site.

Find the best forum(s) on your topic and participate in it. Personally, with a topic like technology, I wouldn't try to participate in more than two high-traffic forums. I would rather spend 1-3 hours per day posting/replying to threads on those two to get rep, provide good advice and at the same time get backlinks to my site which will result in people following those.

Try to incorporate social sites into your blog in one way or another.

Doing these things over and over consistently will get you on your way.

For a tech blog, I would monetize with adsense above and below the post and link to amazon products (sign up for their affiliate program) within the post.

Hope this helps some. I've also sent you a PM. Be sure to check it

You need a mentor who will teach you the basics. There are plenty of Gurus around who can teach you these basics. A mentor who can show videos of how he does it has always been my way to learn.
Honest, not a filler, Step by step examples will give you the IM food.

Whatever you do, do not get bogged down with information overload. Its a killer of time.

One man who has given me the best teaching I have ever come across is Chris Farrell. He will teach you whatever you are looking for.
