Posted an Article from an Indexed Page on my Site, now My Site has bombed to the bottom of Google

I don't do a huge amount of article submission for linking but having read through a few of these forums I learned that it's quite safe to take articles from your site (already indexed in google) and submit them to ezine for a backlink.

I did this last week and made just one or two changes to adhere to the ezine guidelines and they accepted the article no problems, since then my site has bombed from half way up pg 1 to no. 500 odd and if I copy and paste a paragraph from the article into google the ezine article pops up as the first result and my site pops up as the very last result on page 20 - could this be some kind of dupe content penalty or is it more likely to be as a result of my other linking and my site being placed in the so called 'sandbox'?

Any advice greatfully received, if it is anything to do with a dupe issue I'll take the ezine article back down and see what happens. Although I can't see how I could be penalised for dupe when it was indexed on my site first.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

It is not a dupe issue for sure.

EZA has more authority than your site does. That is part of it.

The other part is that the article on your site is going to bounce around a bit in Google whenever it is placed additionally at a second location, until Google's algorithm is satisfied the nature of the syndication.

Your article could bounce for a few weeks, but that is not uncommon, unnatural, or an end of the line for your site in the serps.

When you put that article up, did you link back to the main site in any way? If you did you just got the dance going on and wait a bit for a new indexing of your main site. While you are down a bit, now may be the time to add other linking sources and get some extra juice. There are a lot of variables, age of site, blah blah that have an effect on how much promotion a site can take before it gets danced around a bit.

Direct linking will cause a dance of sorts, if you did a link magnet and promoted the outlying articles that link back to the main site, then your dance would most likely be minimal or non-existent.

    You're doing the dance!

See, there would be no way that it could negatively effect your site there. That would mean you could do the same thing to your competitors to effect their ranking!

    You will be just fine!

Thanks for the info, I've been building all manner of links to this site which is relatively new, some linking methods I probably shouldn't mention here but I've also been bookmarking and blasting referer links at it - I launched it on the 23rd Dec, it came in half way up page 2 the following day and had made its way half way up page 1 by last week - the only thing I've done differently since is add the contents of the index page to ezine.

I didn't think it would be a dupe issue really and guessed it must be dancing/sandboxed - worse thing is it's a niche that is just about to peak through Feb-March then go dead until next year, oh well, it'll be in no.1 by next year

Google will only show 1 version of the article in the SERP.
