Writing an ebook. Advice needed,please

by trnz
17 replies
I am putting out steady content. I want to be able to lump them together into an ebook. I would like to be able to do this as easily as possible. And free if possible. I am using Squidoo, Blogger, Twitter and Facebook. I am going to add Wordpress soon.
I want to arrange my set up so it keeps moving forward smoothly.
Any help or advice will be very welcome.

    Hi trnz,

Are you asking for how to write the ebook, how to put it together or how to market it? You can use the free options to help market the book, but investing in something to help you sell the book is always good. That little spending will be well worth it by itself.

The easiest way to 'lump' your content together is to paste it into Open Office and export as PDF.

Not entirely sure this is what you are wanting to know though so you might want to add a bit more detail to your OP.

      Thanks for the speedy replies.
I have about 1/3 of an ebook out in posts and have no trouble writing the other 2/3. I am using Squidoo, Blogger, Twitter and Facebook. I am going to add Wordpress soon. I want to start streamlining what I am doing so that putting it into an ebook as easily as possible. I would like to know if any of my present sites will be good for this. One problem is that the posts are all in reverse order. To copy and paste them will not be easy.
(I have done this trying to get 3 posts into correct order and, believe me, it is a nightmare). Perhaps I should have started off in an other way or on a different blog tool.
Is there a site or method which I can start using now to
      help me do this.
Any help at all is VERY welcome.

Still don't quite understand, but I think you mean a posting system so that you'd be able to transfer your posts into your ebook faster and easily?

Why would you want to make an ebook (I assume to sell) with contents that you've posted on the internet for free?

You would need to create a table of content. It will help you arrange your content and will assist you to find out what you need to do more to make it look like a professional e-book. As you have mentioned, you have covered Squidoo, Blogger, Twitter and Facebook and you would be adding WordPress too, you create different sections for it. You may include other social networking sites as well such as myspace or friendster. When you would be done writing your thoughts and views, you may hire someone to write the sales page of this ebook and than you can market it around. You can convert into a pdf and upload on numerous e-book sites. I have a list of those sites, if you would need.

I think the wso in my signature would be interesting for you. But of course, I am biased.

On a serious note, I stumbled upon how to create a full blown ebook using my blog content, which led me to creation of the WSO.

You can copy/paste your content on a word or any other application and save as pdf. Am I missing something?

Hi trnz, not quite sure what you're after here, could you elaborate a little on your question. Have you already written these posts and have them spread throughout facebook, twitter, etc.

Are you going to these sites to copy and paste this material into the likes of open office, where you can save it to a PDF.

    ROTFL
Thanks EVERYBODY for for the tremendous interest shown. None of the posts answered the problem. It's must be my poor communication skill. Which doesn't offer much hope for the ebook when it's finished. lol
I will have one more go.
PLEASE forget about the content, what I want to do and the selling of the book.
    The problem is only this:
I have content spread over Squidoo, Blogger, Facebook, Twitter and I am going to add Wordpress.
I will want to combine my posts into an ebook.
Will one of the above services help me or be better for this
    ebook.
Copy and pasting stuff from one place to an other is a nightmare and if possible, I want to avoid it.
Thanks again for the advice so far.
    :-)

    Hi trnz,

You're probably going to have to copy and paste this material you have written down in these other places you have mentioned and put them into the likes of open office.

joe12joe mentioned in the above post about setting yourself out a table of contents, which he's correct in saying, this way it keeps everything in uniform fashion where the reader can choose the most important parts again after they have read any chapters.

I think what you're saying is you have a lot of content and you want it to start in a start off point, where the next step would be a follow up to the previous chapter you've wrote about, and that maybe say chapter 15 isn't supposed to be there but rather in chapter 5 and so on.

I would sift through this content and paste it into notepad first, then arrange the chapters in another file, i.e., just open another notepad and name it the same with the number 1 at the end. When you get your chapters arranged then copy and paste them into open office individually, I know this may take a while, but writing an eBook takes time anyhow, you do not want to rush it.

Wow -- trnz -- what a timely question. I have had complete rights to a book since 1999, not in ebook format, as I read and researched IM this book over took my mind. I had completely forgotten about the book. It is a niche that has a Global appeal. I was in the process of thinking ebook. I know I can turn it into a PDF quite simply. My confusion comes in as my mind ventures off into how to make the PDF part of a download link. How to stop people also reselling my product without consent.

I know this is your post -- but does anyone have thoughts on this? Hoping the answer will help the two of us if not others.

Copy-paste system will work for you!

If you don't want to work hard and want to make it as easy as possible...

    P.S.
When I wrote my free report I spent a lot of time to gathering, ananlyzing and then writing it. It's not easy but it's worth it.
