Affiliate Recruiting Questions

Hi all.

I'm getting close to finishing my first ebook. It's in a non-IM niche. As I understand it, once that's finished, it's smart to start recruiting affiliates to promote. I have a few questions about this process:

1. Is it better to launch the product, test sales with AdWords and then recruit affiliates? Or try recruiting before the launch?

2. Are there websites where you can announce the product to recruit affiliates? Do these sites automatically scan CB for new listings or do I have to do the work?

3. I'm really interested in an affiliate contest. I've been a part of a few and I think it's cool. Most recently, I was doing the one that Travis Sago had for MMU. If you weren't a part, he gave everyone a chance to win with a one-sale-one-entry type lottery. How can I do this? Is there some sort of legality that I need to look up because it's a raffle? Does this work better than a contest where the prizes go to the top-recruiting affiliates?

I appreciate any help I can get.

Love,
Shannon

If I were you, i'd probably test it out on AdSense for a few days. Nothing notable happens, recruit affiliates.

I meant AdWords and have changed the original post to reflect that.

That wasn't meant to be an alternative to affiliates, though. Rather a way to say "This is converting at X%" or something to attract affiliates.

Use nanacast to automatically add your purchasers into your affiliate program. Send an email saying "If you liked this book, would you like to make money with it?

Try the WF JV section, or JVNotifyPro.com. Yes there are those who scan CB for new products.

You'd need to check the legal issues you might have in your state, always a good idea. You might need a launch manager to help, but it can be some yourself if you have the time or inclination to write several instructional emails for swipe copy, get video's or graphic for your affiliates, etc, etc.

Make sure you set a minimum number of sales to be eligible for the prizes so sales can help pay for them.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the advice. I just looked at JVNotifyPro and it seems to be all making money products. Are there ever non-IM offers.

I'm planning on emailing some of the people who have the top sites in this niche as well, but I'd like to get other marketers who maybe aren't already in the niche, but would be when they saw how good my product was.

I will post on the JV forum here when it's time.

    Love,

    affiliate-announce.com

Haven't used it yet but it comes highly recommended by a top IM guru (can't remember exactly if it was John Reese or someone else)

A good idea is to google your competitor's product name (in quotes). You'll find blog and article reviews by their affiliates. You can then contact those affiliates and invite them to promote your product.

Actually I usually start recruiting affiliates well before I finish the book by getting them involved in reviewining the product and turning them into champions who want to promote my product as an affiliate or sometimes even working on a JV with them (if they are a subject matter expert) by recording a quick Skype interview and then turning them into an affiliate

    1. Is it better to launch the product, test sales with AdWords and then recruit affiliates? Or try recruiting before the launch?

At some point you need to test your sales page - you don't want affiliates running out big campaigns into a site that doesn't convert, that's not good for either of you.

You can setup Adwords campaigns, use organic traffic or some small "test" affiliate campaigns to get initial traffic and do some early testing.

You can work on recruiting by 1) Finding key authority figures you want to pursue as affiliates 2) Establishing contact and having them review your product and 3) Working on an offer for them that they will use all while testing your site's conversion in the background.

    2. Are there websites where you can announce the product to recruit affiliates? Do these sites automatically scan CB for new listings or do I have to do the work?

Some sites do automatically scan CB (Ex. CBEngine) which highlight new products appearing in the Marketplace (keep in mind your new CB product will not appear in Marketplace until you have 1 sale and then you need at least one sale each month for it to stay visible) otherwise it gets dropped and no longer appears in the Marketplace (where affiliates can find it)

But by far the best approach we have with our own affiliate programs and those of our clients is to proatively seek out super-affiliates and form these alliances - even 1 or 2 of these in a month can make a massive difference.

    3. I'm really interested in an affiliate contest. I've been a part of a few and I think it's cool. Most recently, I was doing the one that Travis Sago had for MMU. 1. Test first!

Provide proof that the product converts!

    2. Pre launch

Build a buzz by releasing small parts or HOT secrets from your guide by the way of video, anything to start getting people excited.

At this point you should be building a list as well.

    3. Recruit affiliates

Contact people in your niche, sites etc... you can find people directly from the Google results.

Invite them to your program that is launching on "xxx" - show them proof that the page converts and offer help, incentives to get them on board.

    4. Get JV's or Hire A JV Broker

Get on a BIG list in your niche - contact some of the biggest people in your niche and offer a free copy and incentives again to do a list swap or JV - you have already built your list from step 2 right?

    5. Structure proper dates for the launch

    21st pre launch teaser video

26th FREE tip from the guide showing proof it works

    31st Special preview

    4th Launch

Just very basic but I hope this helps.
