Is Facebook now official impossible to make money from?

I am following a couple of course to do with making money from facebook. 1 requires 5,000 friends, which is hard to get in itself due to not many people accepting friend requests, but now even harder due to facebook blocking everyone who sends more than about 300 a day, is there any new way to get a lot of facebook friends without looking like a spam account?

Also I know once set up facebook fan pages are very profitable, but I cannot think of a name (idea) to do for a fb fan page. This is really annoying me. I am in 2 niches (only recently started in them). MMO and cure insomnia niches and they are not the facebook fanpage type of niches no? I would like to get into any other niches, or just promote an affiliate offer or CPA offer using a fanpage.

Ideas???

I agree. Nice job on getting a product and giving it a try. I had a few products I tried out and none of them had any decent returns in fact I couldn't even make my money back. But it doesn't mean you give up, just gotta find the right one that works for you and make it happen.

Tom, I think it's fairly obvious (even to you) that this course teaches greyhat techniques that are at the very least unethical. You simply can't build a list of 5,000 fans overnight, not if you want them to be targeted and truly interested in what you're offering. Why even bother?

Quit trying to game the system, and instead do something else in Facebook that actually provides value to your target market (several great ones have been illustrated in this thread).

Why waste all your time pursuing something futile like this? Just because someone tells you to jump off a cliff does not mean you need to do so.

Rookie FB question.... I know almost nothing of facebook (gasp).
do you make money from selling facebook apps, or is the app just to drive traffic and then make the money from paid ads ?

Tom, it seems like you're jumping all over the place here. What happened to your plan of action from several weeks ago? It seems like you're changing course every few days...you really need to make up your mind as to what you really want to do here.

Haha Nice to see you again paulie, well facebook is my number 1 concern at the moment but I try to add people and my account gets suspended for 2 days, so I have to move to something else. I am currently setting up some websites so I think I am trying to grasp fb at the moment. And think of an idea to do for a fanpage.

People have said this to you before - making money online is not done "at the moment".

You have several new threads about facebook and the complaint is you can't add friends fast enough. You were shut down for 2 days - so proceed once your page is up again and go at a slower rate. You want instant 5000 friends so squeeze money from and it won't work that way.
Learn to work within the Facebook system instead of trying to game it.

You also started a thread about CPA - and about getting no fiverr gigs and needing $20. There's a pattern and you are not seeing it. In the CPA thread you state you are good at CPA. If you were good at it, you'd be making money and wouldn't need $20.

At times, you have asked some good questions. But you take the answers and advice and run it through your filter of "fast/easy" and it doesn't work.
You need to stay with one method long enough to learn it thoroughly and make it profitable or nothing will work for you.

With regards to fanpages, I think the quickest and most effective way to profit quickly is by selling them to local businesses. You'll have to get out of your comfort zone and start talking to businesses, but it'll be worth it as you can typically sell fanpages to them for around $199 each or higher.

I use facebook all the time promoting my website. I really take it easy adding friends.

I was able to find a lot of friends by clicking on account, edit friends, click on find friends.

I was amazed to find many friends that I had met over the years and most of them accepted me as there friend. 10 per day has been enough for me. 300 sounds too much.

Why dont you go to the google keywords tool and find some keywords to use for your fanpage? or whatever affiliate link you are trying to promote-most of the Gurus promoting there affiliate link will have ideas and suggestions to use as an example for a title for a fanpage.
I know Jo Barnes & Chris Farrells membership site have loads of resources for finding friends.

Status updates also work surprisingly well when used correctly. But send people to spun articles of interest on your blog and pre-sell them the product then provide them with a link to buy the product from either your affiliate link or sales page. Doing this right can result in easy, effortless sales doing it wrong can result in you being unfriended, blocked and possibly being accused of spamming people. Make sure people think you are merely promoting the article you have written on Facebook and aren’t actually trying to sell them anything. You sell them what you are trying to sell them when they leave facebook and read your article.

Yeah, I got that letter too.

    Facebook sent me this:

    Dear Robert Howard,

Facebook has been working very hard at making it utter hell to make money with our platform. We really feel like the best Environment for both users and advertisers is one that makes it impossible to make money with, because that is what our owners desire.

We hope you enjoy the new Facebook "Impossible to Make Money With" advertising program! Be sure to LIKE this message!

    Sincerely,

    The Facebook Team

Joking aside, Kay and others have said it...but I'll say it again:

TOM: What they hell are you doing?

No business operates successfully by doing what you are doing. None. Is it CPA? Is It Facebook? Is it MLM? Is it...

What they heck are you doing? What are you selling? How are you driving the traffic?

It sounds like you had a plan, and then dropped it.

You know why are you struggling? Because not only do you keep jumping from one thing after another, you are, as others have said, filtering out all the GOOD idea's presented to you and instead chasing QUICK money.

Money can come quickly, and easily - but it takes effort to get to that point. And a plan. And implementation of the plan. And tracking/testing results in a methodical way.

Please, please, PLEASE stop doing what you are doing - take a step back, and start focusing on a laser targeted plan. It's the only way you'll experience success.

Major no no. DO NOT market (spam) to your "friends". Your personal profile on FB should only be for communication with friends and family. Facebook Pages are for business.

Approach someone that has a great list of email addresses from Facebook and send an email (not spammy or anything) seeing if the person would be interested in hooking up with you on facebook.

Maybe add something as an incentive. Comedy- or 'shocking factor' type of videos will always be opened. That is the first thing you can do to get them interested in you. Perhaps start with... "Here is a great video I want you to see about xyz...." and then ask them if they would like to add you to their friends list/fan page on facebook etc.

A lot of people play Farmville, the mafia game and a few other games on Facebook. So why not perhaps construct a fun quiz and then invite them to 'solve the riddle/puzzle' so to speak and perhaps stand the chance to win a prize. All they have to do is add you etc. Most people will.

I agree with NC. You're a guru's typical target customer. You're frustrated cuz you're not seeing instant results and you're buying new products that sound good. Quit buying products. Choose one method.

You need to choose a "boring" foundation method that actually works like creating a blog that will serve as your main hub, even if you still want to get traffic from Facebook. Invest in hosting and a blog so that you have your own web real estate instead of relying on free stuff like hubpages.

Don't listen to the Kool-Aid drinkers in this thread.

It is darned near impossible for you to make money on Facebook.

      The same goes for Twitter.

Social networking sites are not your personal ATM machines.

Forget about using any of them to try to make money. Just stay away. There's no money in them for you.

Forgive me if I have already said this elsewhere on this string, but it seems that Facebook are making it less easy to build friends now than it was back last summer. I built 5000 friends in just about 7 weeks back then.

So - it is possible that the course you are following was written then..... and that things have changed.

It seems that there are others on here are telling you off for asking questions on a number of parts of Internet Marketing. It's tough to get started, but choose one thing and stick with it. If that facebook course makes no sense, then perhaps find some other facebook resources? There is a stupendous amount of FREE information out there if you look for it.

Good luck. One tip - try unsubscribing to ALL the email lists you have subscribed to since you started. Then you won't get so tempted to keep rushing up side turnings.....

More deja vu all over again...

      Free-for-all link pages.

      Safelists.

      Traffic Exchanges.

      Twitter followers.

      Facebook 'friends'.

What do these have in common?

People building lists of people building lists of people.

All with one common interest - getting other people to pay attention to their offers without having to pay attention to any offers themselves.

So you end up with computers pitching each other and no one actually seeing any of the offers. Eventually, people switch from pitching to complaining that the pitching doesn't work.

Nothing ever changes, does it John?

But what is funny, is everyone want's a LIST - but some people (not saying Tom), don't want to build the best list of all - an email list of happy customers.

Yet, they focus on Twitter, Facebook, etc. and all of it is just to pitch products to others who pitch products.

        Poor economics indeed.

          Tom,
You have some good advice here, Rob's last post about niches got me thinking, and I can see a niche screaming for you.

I know you like the make money niche, if you choose that you need an angle, and your angle is your 'newbieness' and hunting around for your way forward.

There are loads of people in the same boat, it's a great niche for you.
You can set up a blog as suggested, set up a facebook around it, and simply tell your story.
Then you'll build up a genuine natural following.
A lot of what you've posted right here over the last few weeks is great content about the learning curve - so use it!

For example, you can tell people why you are having problems with the facebook course - when you then follow the story through, you have answers that your following will want.

Get your own blog, put *that* link in your sig line, get rid of the make money link, and you are moving forward!

I think the "make $500/day with facebook fanpages" isnt what it used to be.

Especially since your fans can no longer suggest your page to their friends, so its harder to make it go viral.

Niche problem? Tom, I'm sorry, but this sounds like an excuse to jump around.

Ok - here are 5 niches.

Dog training, get your ex back, weight loss before a wedding, how to get a boyfriend/girlfriend, green gardening.

Pick one and go with it. Stick with it and test things for 2 weeks +. Then make a determination if it works.

Don't focus on picking a PERFECT niche, it doesn't exist. The 5 I mentioned above I know work well.

You need to set a goal. Do this:

I, Tom, will take today to pick 1 niche. I will take 3 ideas, study each niche, then weed down to 1. I give myself 4 hours to do this exercise. At the end of 4 hours I will have a niche.

Then, pick one method to market. Let's say building a blog review page, and driving traffic via article marketing.

You presell and send to the vendor.

As you are doing now, you are not going to achieve anything...sorry, ain't going to happen.

Let's say the Facebook thing works. What are you going to promote to these 5000 friends? Random spam?

That will get you closed down quick.

You are getting advice, seems like you are HEARING it but not LISTENING to it.

I think maybe you should use an incentive CPA network to lock your product or whatever you are promoting, like one of the guy suggested you above, pick a niche and promote it, but instead of selling the product just "give it" away, they just need to complete a survey to get access to the product.

    Regards.

Buying Facebook fans will increase value of your company, fanpage, your products in record time.
Buying 1000 or more fans usually kickstarts the chain-reaction effect.
What’s the chain-reaction effect? When a person likes your page, it will be posted on their profile and sometimes in their friends' Top news feed. When this happens, their friends will check out your Facebook page and will “like” it as well.
This could go on for quite a long time as you can imagine.

The real value of 1000 facebook fans is actually 3,600.00 - 90,000.00 USD per year, as Facebook experts are estimating:
$3.60 Facebook Fan Valuation Is Just the Tip of the Iceberg « Social Marketing Services | Vitrue

The problem with buying 'fans' on Facebook, specially for the niche Tom is in, is that it will never really go viral, and all he will end up with are 1,000 fans who have absolutely no interest in the niche.

I think you are better off attracting fans in more legitimate ways. Think of a name for a page, create it, and then use it to go create informed posts on other pages in the same niche. If people are impressed by your knowledge, they will probably come and check your page out. Then, if you have good content on your page, they will like it and contribute.

I think that is the best way to get a genuine Facebook page going and is a good way to earn money in the long run through Facebook. Other people have suggested good short term routes one can take to earn money on Facebook, so if you're looking for work on Facebook rather than a residual income, go for those techniques.

    Ideas???
The main rule to remember about social media like Facebook is that it's not a place to make sales. Do NOT sell directly on social networks. Facebook is great for marketers to generate leads (not sales), which is why you see lots of guru fan page that have autoresponder opt in forms.

When you get your fans on your email list, then you can promote the cure insomnia product. Note that you are talking to people via email when they are not on Facebook and they just might be in more forgiving mood when you make your pitch.

Make sure anything you promote has good copy and converts well or your efforts will go to waste.

Very well put CDarklock. This is a great thread. It looks like you just need to focus and stick with it. If you are good at building Fanpages, you should market them to businesses in your area.

Well, facebook adverts are definitely 100 times more expensive than simply buying targetted fans for your Facebook fanpage

Maybe I'm being cynical here, but I'm having a hard time accepting either of these resources at face value (pardon the expression).

Both of these sources are trying to do two things. Establish a high value for the service they provide and position themselves as the way to get that high value.

I view these 'experts' the same way I view a General Motors dealer telling me how much better GM cars are than Fords. With a huge fistful of salt...

I have better luck converting facebook users when they find the fan page through my site or I somehow send targeted traffic to it. Build some good content and get traffic to it, and you will have return visitors.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[3700783].message }}
  • I remember hearing about how to do this properly on a product called "underground traffic blueprints" I bought a while ago (and no, i don't have anything to do with the product and I'm not advertising it). It was on about doing viral techniques correctly to build your fanpage. One of the methods I used from it was starting discussions that your target audience would actually find interesting. For example, read up on up and coming mmorpg games and ask your fan members what they think about the games. I used world of warcraft for mine and asked people stuff like "hoarde or alliance? Who's the best?". People answer and you often get a couple of new people adding the fanpage.

I remember creating a general fanpage on boredom and, I posted this as the description:

" If you're bored, click Like above... There, I cured your boredom for a second.

If you're still bored, click invite friends, select anyone you want from the list and invite them to this group and let's spread the love of Boredom to everyone!"

It worked a treat, I had one girl who posted saying she sent an invite out to over 300 of her friends to keep herself occupied....

What can i say, a bit of humor goes a VERY long way

"The right things. often enough and consistently".

You are doing the wrong things. And you have no patience. It is not possible to make fast money online. Even those that suddenly start making a lot tried lots of things first. It is ok to try things but actually split-test and you science. Not guessing and impulse.

Every business you have to start of slow and maybe make a loss for a year. If you want to be a success in life you either need a job first or rich parents.

It was never impossible to make money from Facebook. FB is the main source of my online income. Made thousands of dollars from there alone. The only thing which separates impossible and possible is your knowledge about fb. Getting 5000 random friends won't matter at all if you didn't even bother developing relationships with them. Sending out requests at random will risk your fb account of getting shut down. FB takes time and money if you like. You can do fb ppc generate leads and sell stuff to your leads. Another is provide value. Value is the king of attraction. Provide solutions to the problems within your market. It would be nice to have a facebook fan page for this and have a custom capture page installed to capture leads. Make it interactive and give your fans some quality content, thoughts and stuff to talk about. Once people trust and like you, you can't hold them back. They will pull out their credit cards and buy or join you.

Spamming will get you no where. Always remember that.

I spent a few months last year building up my facebook friends, at first its quite difficult but once you break past 100 friends its easy steady growth. Atm I have 2029 friends, with 300+ friend request that I seriously have not had the time accepting.

But since Facebook introduced the changes, for any new person wanted to build fast you need to go slow and steady. I only wish when I starting building I focused more solely on just people with my niche.
