Hi everybody,

just entered the flipping business for test and optimize the processes. I know that it should be a website what already has profit, but to get the system better known, I setup first site-listing there with a new website. I also realized that maybe some suggestions for selling at flippa would also be interesting with a showcase for other new-sellers in future, so I decided to write this 1st try for flipping here at the warriorforum as a showcase and also a how-to solution for newer webmasters.

Site for sell: SiteForMovie -> Flippa

It´s an Auto-Video Youtube API script was has a lot of enhancements and possibilities to drive in traffic and of course a lot of $$$ - I have set up several sites with that script and made money fast as it is good coded and delievers an sitemap.xml to webmaster tools. I just set up all and maybe somebody has some recommendations for getting an flippa-listing well promoted and designed. Thanks everybody for recommendations and ideas.

Following steps will be made in next moments:

add correct meta to site
add xml to webmaster-tools
add banners and different money making options
make a Quickindex-Run

Made the next days:

build up some links and optimize site (categories)

I sold two sites on Flippa so far. The first site I sold was 10 months old and was averaging $60 per month...I sold it for $750. The second one was a few months old and was averaging $60 per month as well and sold it for $350 dollars. So, I guess domain age plays a role too

You site is new, with no revenue and no traffic. Your description on how it can be profitable is all theories. There is no hard proof to back it up. The highest you'll get for it is around $50 (my opinion). Personally, I would not bid on it. Sorry. But, maybe that's just me.

The key point from my observations is current revenue with traffic and the demonstration that the new owner will easily be able to maintain the site to keep the $$$ from coming in.

Your site will be seeing as even more valuable if its source of free traffic is from search engines.

    Good Luck

I've just started my first auction on Flippa too.

It's earning a little and is already up to $150.

I think a little revenue and traffic makes a huge difference...

Here's the auction if you want to take a look:

      Hi Alex,

what review plugin you use for your 101-wordpress themes site? It´s looking really nice and I need also a solution for templates as I own a good domain for it. WOuld be nice to point me on the right direction or say me the name of the plugin - thanks

As far as startup sites go, sites with good visual appeal, particularly video, definitely have great chances of selling. There's this 56,000 movie trailer site that sells over and over again on new domains for around $300.

Your concept is similar and looks good so I expect it should also sell in that $300 range. Hopefully more. I'm just talking minimum.

        Good luck.

        Hiya,

It's GD Star Rating for Wordpress.

I was thinking of packaging the theme and plugin together and selling it. You think that would work?

I have sold a few sites via Flippa and the MAIN thing I learned is it DOES work IF you are making money.

Tried selling a site as a "start up" in a good niche, and then tried selling as site that was already getting about 300-400 visitors a day and the difference was HUGE.

Needless to say the site that was making money sold.

However having read info on site flipping and studying the listings you CAN make it work.

Contrary to what most people think organic traffic is way more important than revenue in the flipping business.

A website that gets decent organic traffic from targeted keywords will always have a better chance of selling than a website that has revenu but lacks in organic traffic.

The most important factor that comes to any buyers mind is the extent of automatic free traffic a website gets.

You could have a website that averages 1k$ a month from traffic sources like facebook, twitter, adswaps etc sell for a lot less than a website that gets decent organic, targeted traffic with 0$ in revenue.

Now if you manage to have both (revenue and organic traffic) it would be almost impossible not to be able to sell for some decent cash.

Buyers on Flippa are looking for websites that are hands free and do not require much attention from them.

keep in mind that you have to stay profitable. even a brand new site costs you money, domain $9, flippa listing $20, one promotion $40. This is already $70 yo've spent on the site.

Then if it gets sold, there is the flippa success fee, depending on the payment methods there are also additional fees for the money transfer (for example Escrow)...

For less valuable sites it's maybe better to sell them on digitalpoint.

I buy sites regularly on flippa

There are the rules i use...

Must be older than 3 months

Must be unique content - no script based sites

Must have potential to get 3000 visitors per month

Must be wordpress (bought a site child on site sell recently....never again!)

If the sales page or headline claims potential... I don't even look at it.

If it's got genuine repeatable earning then I'll go to 8times income

Income isn't an issue but If it's got no income then I'll go to $60 - $80 although for a site with good content , good design and that I don't need to work on I'll go higher.

Basically I am looking for good sites , with good content, that will make money when I've promoted them.

Thanks a lot for sharing your expieriences to me. I found the link the above thread is an interesting review of a trustfull project trying and describing flippa business. So finally I think I have to go on another way to sell my sites. Would you hire some promotors or do linkbuilding by your own? Have a nice day.

I added now the complete white label hotel price search to the site - plus add the search form. It`s a click based hotel comparison :-) website as video site - so in my opinion it`s a good way of income plus bonus given to the flippa-try project. So what would do now - do some linkbuilding? or let it as it is ....

    Hey Ehsan,

IMO, this is only half true. I think more experienced buyers will always put a higher value on organic traffic, but generally the market doesnt seem to agree. I've noticed that when two almost identical sites are put up for auction, if one has even a miniscule amount of revenue (even something trivial like $10 per month for two months) it WILL tend to attract more bids and this ultimately means the final bid price increases.

The exception is with more established sites (price tag > $1000) where I guess buyers are more experienced and judge it by a different criteria.

It is true about buyers generally looking for zero work though, again mostly on the lower (price tag) end. Newbies are being sold the dream of automated 'hands free' income and often fail to realise they are more likely to fail pursuing that initially, than simply doing the basics well and applying some hard work.

Yes I also think that - people what know the industry want quality established sites, but there are a lot of new interested ones.... I think everybody of us started at a point some days ago and bought a lot of stuff, also things what become into a waste of money. I think this site has potential. I also integrated the white label hotel price (including styles) for bonus. So maybe there would be more people see this bonus as some real value. And in my opinion business without work... hmmm, then you have to invest really hard in an established project what is really the money worth.

I've sold a number of sites on there.....a good guide is 5-10 monthly earnings but it is possible to get 20-25 times earnings with the right sales letter.

@ All - FlipFilter (Justin) is spot on- have a read of his blog, he has some awesome articles.

    Few quick tips from me:

Don't run a private offer unless you're expecting it to go for $100k+.

Auctions are better as you get people bidding against each other.

    Always start bidding at $1.

Don't mean to be rude - but get an English native to spell/grammar check your listing, it makes a big difference.

Add a BIN price and offer some incentives to hit BIN (free hosting etc)

Use the "featured listing" add-on in Flippa. This is important to get a site to sell.

For a new site like this, you should aim to get $197-297 as a BIN if you write good auction copy.

Thanks a lot for your answers. Yes, I will get a native english write me a new sales letter with correct spellings. I was making an error when set it up not as an auction, but primary I wanted to see the flippa process and workflow. When the site will not be sold I will build up some links make a rework of the whole "flip" and will try to go for an auction, incl. BIN price.
