How would YOU sell this product?

I'm developing an info product for my niche that I know there will be a market for. Essentially, it will explain technological opportunities to non-technical folks. Because of the changing nature of my industry, there's a real need for something like this.

Developing the product isn't the issue, it's trying to figure out how best to package and sell it.

The product will include 5 modules covering a different aspect of the topic. Each module will include video interviews, podcasts, articles, worksheets, transcripts and resource guides.

Because of the multimedia nature of it, it's really not suitable for an ebook or a physical book. As I see it, I have two ways to sell it:

As a standalone online product (I'm thinking a password protected Wordpress site)
As a mini-membership site, with the modules dripped over time, and recurring billing.

A note on my market - they're price resistant ($99 would be a top-out price for the standalone). But they trust us completely -- we have a big list and 20 years of credibility behind us.

So, my questions:

1. Am I missing something in terms of info product models? Is there another way to package and sell this? Break it up into parts, perhaps? Create a free site, hold back some as premium products and sell ads to the vendors our folks will need to turn to as they move forward technologically? something else? I'm all for off-the-wall creative ideas if they work.

2. Because of the changing nature of the technology this product will address, it will require regular updating. How can I use this to my advantage? Perhaps a standalone product with periodic updates sold as a backend?

Any insight will be greatly appreciated!

I'm not a big fan of membership sites except for specific types of products. If your product needs frequent updates, it can be one of those.

You can also make some kind of hybrid product. You sell the product for $X and offer an up sell for $Y or a montly subscription to have access to the updates.

I would sell as a membership. If it is a changing niche you can easily justify their continuing membership in the copy ("you'll get the latest insider tips delivered to you every month, etc.). That short of thing.

Offer it as a 14-day trial with recurring billing.

Plus it sounds like it's a lot of material. Offering bit by bit over time will help and could be another selling point ("you wont suffer from information overload,etc."). It also won't sound overwhelming to your market.

Without knowing your exact niche, that's what i would do.

P.S. Also forget the free stuff - if they know you and trust you go for the sale up front.

I'm fine with a membership model (it's my current primary form of income. Our membership site in this niche has 5000 paying members).

There is a bit of a "rock and a hard place" issue, though. A lot of folks who would buy this product are panicky about the changes in the industry and want to know what to do right now to get on top of things. Spreading the info out over time, rather than delivering it all at once would be a problem, as they want they answers to act on immediately.

OTOH, if I give everything up front, who would continue for more than a month or two?

So what about this idea? Promote a "for dummies"-type ebook (no multimedia) that covers all the basic info they need (priced at, say $35) that also serves as a front-end for more serious folks who want the in-depth, constantly updated stuff on a membership site.

I love selling email delivered content that's dripped as often as you like. People get each module in their inbox to go through at their leisure.

Plus if it needs updating you can just tweak the emails in your autoresponder. You can also create lessons as you go if you want and roll out a new one each time it comes due.

        See what I mean?

So, in my case, drip access to the wordpress pages (which I need as it will be multimedia based with videos/audios etc. and not just text based) with an e-mailed link spread out over, say 5 days. Charge one up-front price and just update the wordpress pages as needed? Essentially, I'm now promoting a 5 day course, right?

that would remove the "oh my god that's a lot of info you're dumping on me!" factor while still delivering all the information in a timely fashion.

          interesting....
