Linkwheeling too fast?

So I made a blog post on my main site. Within a day it was on page 6 of Google for the key phrase. About 3 or 4 days after I made the post, I started backlinking using link wheels and social bookmarking.

Within a few days, I had made three link wheels with about six or seven sites in each, and bookmarked on several sites.

My blog post went from page 6, to page 15, to disappeared as I finished the last linkwheel. Did I build too fast? None of my backlinks are coming from any spammy sites, all good sites.

Is there any hope of my site getting back where it should be any time soon?

Nah I'd say your good. It's just doing the google dance. More than likely you will show back up in a better position than you were.
