Plagiarism

I've only recently gotten into IM and have written a few articles. Using CopyScape i've found a few places where my articles have been used despite not submitting them which is cool as they've kept my resource box. However i've found 2 sites belonging to the same person that is ripping just the 1st paragraph of articles on SEO and using them to drive Adsense clicks. It is only one article of mine that has been ripped. But i believe many other members here have probably been too so you can check it out for yourself at:

Beyond this gripe i'm not sure what, if anything, i should do :confused:

    Too little content is copied. Host won't do anything.

    Unless you're talking about at least 1-2 pages of content, then you're lucky if host will ever respond to your abuse complaint.

      There are two roads you can take here.

      1-Do nothing and use the time you would use to resolve this to generate more revenue.
      2-Take action to get your content removed from the sites in question

      I've had good luck contacting the webmasters directly. If you have no luck there you can contact their host or contact Google to complain directly at Digital Millennium Copyright Act

      Good luck getting this resolved.

    Yes, it will take a LONG time to get anything resolved through the legal channels.

    However, you can try contacting the site owner and threatening them that you will take legal action. Give them a link to the DMCA, let them know that they aren't safe anywhere in the world because that Act applies to the world. And tell them they may be responsible to compensate you for time and money lost.

    Also, let them know that the email me be sent to a third party to help resolve the problem in the future (if need be).

    Write the message like you think it might be a mistake (maybe they had the content written for them and they have no idea it's stolen). Ask them nicely to take it down.

    I'm not a lawyer so please don't take this as legal advice. Just take it for what it might be worth...

    Plagiarism is illegal, and since you have proof that the guy who is in charge of the website has illegally copied your source, without permission, and/or without quoting the paragraph, he is subject to fraud or copyright infringement.

    I suggest you do something about it, contact the guy and tell him that what he's doing is illegal.

    Personally I have some articles the same way, I do not worry about it... It is a waste of time that could be spent doing something constructive.

    Also Plagiarism is not a legal term and the use of the word can have a very wide range of meanings.. Especially when you are dealing with the entire world here and not just one country.

      I think compared to most others my little tantrum was pretty mild

      I already knew of a few options to do to something about it. However i wanted to know wether or not it was worth the effort and if others have had results persuing this issue.

    I have a related question.

    I found one of my articles with the resource box intact but they put a ? in the url to make it unclickable, and won't work if copy and pasted unless the user removes the question mark. eg. www.yoursite.?com

    Since they are intentionally doing this is this illegal?

      Aaron,
      Your best bet is to forget about it and go on ... The time you waste tracking down every articles and what site is using that article will turn into a full time job.. You are better off just ignoring it and spend that time writing more articles and posting them to your blog or article websites.

    You can also publicize this plagiarism event at your blog and other forums.

    You may try writing a mail to that person to stop such practice. In this way the person will be aware that he might get into trouble. This simple email technique has been found to be effective in 90 percent cases!
