Well - start at the beginning.

How do you plan on making money?

    There is -

    CPA
    Adsense
    Affiliate Products
    Your own Products
    Website Flipping
    Offline Consulting

    Those are the big ones.

Notice I didn't say "Article marketing" or something - all that is is a way to drive traffic. Huge difference.

The first ones I mentioned are ways of making money. First decide that. Then that will help you decide how to drive traffic and market.

Write down your choices. That will make your business plan. Stick with that plan for like 2 months, at least. You need to work your tail off on that plan - until you see success or decide to try something else.

But the point is, you have focus and clarity.

    Hope this helps,

    Rob

First of all it may be a good idea to list what methods you've tried so far in order for us to be able to give you some "to the point" advices .

Have you tried growing tulips and selling them online?

Odd suggestion, probably, but the thing is we know nothing about your interests either. So, in addition to Rob's question, there is also the question of what your interests are. Do you like growing flowers? Maybe you prefer working on cars? What things do you know? What do you have to offer? What hobbies do you have?

Once we know your interests and plans, maybe we can steer you in a direction.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

1000's of us started in affiliate marketing.

What is you plan on marketing these 2 sites.

Hey Rob don't you think the OP should look for a market before they even start to think about the making money part? Finding a hungry market is priority to everything else in my opinion.

Of course if it's IM then you are right on!

No, they first need to decide how they are going to make money.

If he said "I wanted to open a pizza joint" this would be different.

Your choice of business can and will dictate your niche. For example: If he says "I want to open a service business" - then some obvious choices would be "IM Niche writing articles"

The biggest choice we make is what we sell. What could be a click, a sign up, a purchase...but the WHO we sell to needs to come second.

        For example:

Let's say he wants to market to weight loss crowd.

        How?

        Well, he could:

Do CPA. I've seen tons of them.

He could do a content type site with ad's on it. That would work.

What about making his own product?

Or doing affiliate marketing with amazon/clickbank?

By choosing FIRST what business he is going to pursue, he automatically cut's down choices, and by cutting down choices, we cut down time it takes to get to profit's as well as allowing us to really FOCUS on just 1 thing.

        Rob

EDIT: There are some additional advantages to doing it this way. Besides limiting choices, the focus on a METHOD of monetizing allows us to rapidly systemize how we do business, thus allowing us to ramp up and grow really fast.

If he just said "I'm going to promote weight loss products..." next week he could be off chasing down CPA stuff, or then building an adsense site...or spamming facebook.

But with the CLARITY of a business sitting in front of him, he won't do the above. He will only focus on the methods and move to other niches, but still stick to the methods that worked the first time.

All businesses have a focus, a set way of doing things. This enables money to be made faster.

Hmmm and you will never succeed. Sorry but that is the truth. There are many things on this forum that will help you along the way and in whatever endeavor you choose you can have success but you are going about it the absolute wrong way.

If you have to have someone else tell you what business to start, you won't succeed. You need to be passionate about what you do and believe in what you're selling or people will see right through it.

Interesting responses, I was thinking about the same thing, if you want PM me with what interests you have, a little about your background, if you consider your self an introvert or an extrovert, (the way to tell is if you are in an elevator and cannot keep your mouth shut you are an extrovert,) If you just stare at the numbers in the center of the elevator and hope no ones says a word to you then you are an introvert, that will tell what direction you should start in.

So the links in your sig are rubbish

Blackpool was the number one most popular seaside resort in the UK last year, with many hotels and boarding houses, shows etc. You live there and would be able to easily take videos and photos to help promote affiliate links. Or you could help local business owners build an online presence. Just a suggestion but the most obvious to me.

There's a huge number of online business. Such as:

    1. Affiliate Marketing
    2. CPA Campaign
    3. Blogging
    4. Freelancing
    5. Adsense; etc

Focus on any of them and make a good knowledge on that. First find out the field of your interest and made good skill on that. If you want to make yourself a successful online businessman then you should have to keep patience and give up all the frustration.

I am fairly new myself, and I say too, it is a dangerous place to find oneself in, when oneself starts jumping from one thing to the next too quickly. I have already spent much more money than I thought I would to get started in making money online.
The bottom line remains: There is a lot of learning involved in any new business. Then the next thing is, knowing how and when to move from learning into ACTION! It is easy to get stuck in the rut of thinking you need to know EVERYTHING before you can DO anything.
I personally think that Affiliate Marketing has a lot to offer in a wide variety of niches. There are a LOT of online Stores you can promote products for.
A good training program to learn Affiliate Marketing is 'Dan Brock's Deadbeat Super Affiliate Program'. It's a complete program with easy to follow steps. I have some testimonials for his program on my site:

I'm not "new" per se, but I have to admit it's been pretty difficult for me to find what fits me best, with there being so much information and so many different things you can do to make money. But i think i've finally found what will work best for me. i can honestly say i've given all the "systems" an earnest try and i believe they all work - i just think they didn't work for me!

but knowing myself, i think my next go round will be a success. i think you just have to really assess yourself and see what you are willing to do. anytime you're told to do something and you hate doing it (like article writing, for me) then that's not for you! be honest with yourself and pick something that you'll enjoy - after all that's when you'll have true success, when you love what you do. that 's what were all here for right?

Look, there are many systems that works (selling services, niche sites, and product creation just to say some of them). If they have not worked for you, it might be because you have done something wrong, and many times this is juat not being focus and be not patient enough.

Find something you find comfortable with and stick to it. Do not try to jump from one thing to another looking for the one that will make you succeed. Systems don't make you successful, your work does.

First of all, stop spending money, and be a good student. You are wasting money and doing nothing because you don’t know the basics about internet marketing. You have to study and learn, so that you may understand what to do online in order to make money. This knowledge is not as simple as presented by various online marketers who only want to take advantage of the public’s ignorance.

You can have free internet marketing lessons in the Warrior forum by reading many interesting posts everyday. Be a regular visitor of this forum, and study the lessons given by many generous warriors. Be patient though, because there is a lot to learn in this field.

Secondly, start creating Squidoo lenses and Hub pages for free. Hub pages are simply pages where you publish original articles. You have the right to post also two links to your websites, and your blog’s RSS. If you are not a good writer, forget Hub pages. Create Squidoo lenses, which are mini-sites where you can sell many different Amazon, eBay, etc. products. You only need to write a few explanations about the products you are selling. Read the reviews you’ll find at Amazon about each product you are promoting, and rewrite them in your lens in your own words. You can transform your lenses in review sites, which are in demand. This way you’ll learn into practice how to make money without spending anything. Be a regular visitor of the Squidu forum, post your lenses’ links there. The traffic your lenses get from Squidu will help them get traffic from Google.

Here is a lens that teaches you how to create many Squidoo lenses in a short period of time. You must create many quality lenses in order to make good money with them. Don’t be lazy:

    http://www.squidoo.com/passive-income-website-traffic-squidoo-beginners-guide

Create many nice lenses, while studying various posts in the Warrior forum, and soon you’ll start making some money (without spending anything). Most importantly, you’ll learn what to do in order to make money online by selling affiliate products. Later you’ll be able to maintain your own business, create your products, etc. You’ll learn a lot if you follow the posts at Squidu because all lensmasters give you many explanations about how to beat the competition, how to get traffic, etc.

Making money online is about getting traffic, and converting your visitors into buyers. You have to work very hard promoting your links everywhere, or spend a lot of money with ads.

    All the best!

I enjoyed your squidoo lens. Great information and a great start for Gary. I ama little confused by your signature because it looks like you have programs to promote. but it seems that you are getting some great advice so I will leave you to the experts.

Check out the squidoo lens, it provides great information that you can use for the websites that you are already promoting. Good luck to you.

    Do you have any skills?
Can you create wordpress sites? Can you create squidoo/hubpages? If yes, you can sell those as a service and build a client base. Then you can upsell them more expensive services.
If you know keyword research, you can create sniper sites or amazon sites.

I created one and ranked it #8 on Google in less than 2 weeks, for a decently searched buying keyword for a product. With no promotion, no backlink, no nothing. You can make simple wordpress sites like that for local businesses and sell it to them.
there is always good money in that.

I know I'm new here but here is a little bit of advice.

Don't worry about how you'll make money. Don't worry about if you know anything about it. Think about what you like. What do you search for when you have down time? What interests do you have?

It is damned hard to write 100+ articles and spend hours on a site that you have no interest in. I would recommend you get a sheet of paper (get away from a computer) and WRITE DOWN your ideas. Then get a sheet of paper and do the old brainstorm/mindmap for EACH of your ideas. Keep these mindmaps for a week and add to it as you think of new things that relate to that idea. After a week if you haven't come up with at least 10 sub-ideas then pitch it. It will be hard to write around something you can't be passionate enough about to come up with 10 sub-ideas.

Once you've done your mind maps sit down and order those maps by most interested in to least. Once you've done that write 1 200-300 word article on each sub-idea on your mindmaps for your top 3 mindmaps. If you have to research some then do research. Again, if you can't write articles for the sub-ideas scratch them off. If your sub-ideas fall below 10 then move it to the back of the pile.

Do this until you have 3 mindmaps with 10+ 200-300 word articles per mindmap.

Do this and your ready to make money. Notice I didnt tell you to do keyword research, to find out ways of monetizing it, to make a website, etc. If anywhere along the line you get bored, can't get motivated, etc. at least you didn't spend 1 cent on hosting or anything.

Plus if you do take this to the next step then your ready to do research on creating the actual site. Also you should have a nice cach of articles to start with once you get your site off the ground!

    Hope this helps!

I don't see why you don't start with clicking on your signature to make money with ebay...

On a serious note, you need to stop reading and start taking actions. LONG-TERM ACTIONS! Internet marketing is a business and should be treated as such. Odds are, you've absorbed enough info from those "rubbish" that could bring you some cash. You just have the wrong mindset about making money online.

How much time did you spend on applying what you learned from those "rubbish?"

      OP,

If you're reading around on this board, you already know how to make money online... meaning you know the basic steps.

      They are:

      1. Choose profitable niche
      2. Setup site/blog
      3. Learn how to generate traffic

      Once you've done steps 1-3:

      4. Monetize your site
      5. Improve conversion

Work those steps on ONE site until its profitable. Then you'll have the skills to be able to succeed at PPC, PPV, or CPA. If you try that stuff now you'll donate all your money to google and facebook.

      DO WORK BABY!

Quit reading this forum and getting confused.
