Traffic Secrets 2.0 Experiment : watch my stats grow

Hi,
I'm currently running a six-figure business (that's the first year I'm in business) and I'm realizing that I'm underachieving on a lot of aspects on my Internet presence.

I received John Reese's Traffic Secrets 2.0 course a while ago as a bonus to Frank Kern's course, and though I've been using Frank's stuff a lot (and it transformed my business), I haven't yet put TS2 to use.

So this is my experiment :
I am going to use the Traffic Secrets manual from the front page cover to the end. And I'll report my traffic stats at each step. I don't have a clue of how long it is going to take, but I'll use this thread as my "accountability" measure - to make sure I keep taking action !

Hey Tony, great thread. I'm going to enjoy watching it unfold over time.

I don't want to derail your thread by recommending a testing tool but I will give you some recommendations on what to test based on the type of web page you have up. Suffice to say, I prefer my own testing tool over any others on the market.

In terms of what to test, I've listed in order of most likely to have a big conversion boost to potentially smaller.

Keep in mind that you can get exponential increases in conversion by finding more than one variation that converts better than your current versions (controls).

Squeeze Page: Main Headline, Secondary Headlines, Opt-in button, background color of page, text font color.

Sales letter: Main Headline, Secondary Headlines, Product offer, background color, font color.

It can also be worth testing the graphics on a page: ie. header vs. no header, graphics around video player vs. no graphics, and so on.

Aim for a basic benchmark of 100 actions. That is, if you're testing your squeeze page, wait until you've gotten 100 new opt-ins to determine which variations converted best.

If you need to learn the basics of testing, contact Warrior John Ritz about his free Profit DNA report. Or grab Paul Hancox's Small Changes Big Profits report.

        Hope that helps,

        Mike

Mike, just to be clear, you're talking about 100 actions per version aren't you? Or do you just go by 100 total actions for the test?

Good question. I usually rely on 100 total actions, combined with the testing software's reported confidence level. Confidence level is a very common feature found in almost every testing tool out there.

You can also use this free online tool to find your confidence level for your test: :::SplitTester.com:::

The general idea is the confidence level tells you how likely it is that your testing results will stay the same. I typically aim for a confidence level of 90% or more with 95%+ being ideal.

If I'm only testing one variation against a control (like typical A/B split testing), and it's a dead heat, then I'll let the test keep running.

If that doesn't determine a winner, then what I personally do is declare the control the winner... because it didn't get beat.

There might be some testing gurus out there that will contradict me on this point but I'm interested in finding clear-cut control beaters -- not something that might be as good as my control. Control beaters mean higher conversion rates and that's my ultimate goal.

            Hope that helps,

            Mike

Tony M., I just found this thread and I'll be following along with you. I also have Traffic Secrets 2.0, and have not yet implemented it.

Question: Can you post a link to your current website/blog? I clicked on the link under your WF profile, and get a blog that was last updated June 5, 2008.

Also, what is your experience with the "Community" aspect of TS2? I don't see much...

              Thanks!!

OK, I didn't actually do things in due order, I started out with the Affiliate/joint venture part.
I have researched my market and sent out an email to two dozen websites in my niche to invite them to my affiliate program.

I also had a hard time last week because I went on a "no-computer and no-internet" diet for two days, and OF COURSE all of my websites went down for 48 hours just that weekend. These things happen

Anyway, I've been busy researching and contacting affiliates so no direct impact on my traffic, but great potential upside in a few weeks when I do my launch.

I'm also working on a viral video I plan to release very soon.

Tony , this is awesome - have you thought about taking your very own notes, recording your steps, ideas etc from following Traffic Secrets 2.0 and sell as your own WSO? I am sure many Warriors including myself would be very interested.

John Reese talks a lot about "owning more of the internet" by putting out more content, and using your assets as much as you can.
I realize I have a huge series of articles that I posted on my old blog and I can re-use them, so I'm going to run a 30-day series from December 15th to January 15th. It's going to be HUGE !
At the same time I'll run a product launch for a $1,500-$3000 coaching program of mine.

    Time to take action !

    ---
    Christopher -> Thanks !
Jason -> I didn't think about that... Well, I think this topic is actually how I'll record everything so I'm just going to post everything I do in here and give my experience here as free content.
    14 -> huh ?

I am sure you will find traffic if you follow the course. You can recycle a lot of your traffic.

I would add if you have a forum you can create contentbased around the most popular threads and topics.

You can also poll your members and get ideas for tools and widgets to add to the forum or opt-in page to get more traffic. (Opt-in bait).

    Regards

I've been getting a lot of traffic from a video that I posted as a part of the 30-day series, so I did a new video today that I'm currently uploading.
Also, I implemented an affiliate system on the wordpress blog so my affiliates can actually get their visitors cookied when they link to my blog (not just the optin pages) !

The numbers for last week were not great, but the traffic this week will look pretty cool !

So Tony, did you make your six-figure income because you had a budget of $10,000 or more?

I see clams like this and wonder, it seems the person in a programmer or a really good copy writer/ writer. These kinds of professions can make you six figures, because they are in demand.

I remember Traffic Secrets 1.0, it was ok, let me know what you think of 2.0. Hope it works for you, the prices on these programs just seem to get more expensive, and I would probably buy it if I had the money.

          @Tony6597 :
When I started out, I was on a $100 budget for the domains and hosting mainly. Had to take some money from my student savings when I started doing Adwords because I was doing everything wrong and basically threw $6,000 down the toilet in two months before I started to "get it" and buy a lead for 0,30 instead of $3 o $6.
But I made that $6,000 tenfold very fast.

And I'm not selling programming or copywriting. I have an IT background but I'm a lifecoach. I only code for my own websites.
I used to SUCK at copywriting before I got the basics from swiping (not copying) and studying Frank's and Eben's copy.

          @jjkapp :
Sorry I'm not giving the link in this topic (it's in French anyway)

          @MikeHumphreys :
Thanks for the great ideas for things to test (I'm using the adwords tool).
I'm also looking for ideas of things to track (i.e numbers I should be watching on a daily or weekly basis to know if I'm on the right track, like pageviews, or number of new sales, etc)

No problem Tony...I understand, and I don't know French! :-)
It is very good of you to post your statistics, and I do appreciate the insight. I have a technical background, and I always like to see the real data (versus fluffed-up hyper claims of greatness).

Also, this may be a growing trend (sharing of data). For instance, Joel Comm has recently been posting his sales stats for his iPhone/iPod application. $0.99 application on iTunes, apparently Apple takes 30% off the top. 10 days after release he's netting $10K PER DAY. Interesting stuff:

Since I went through the actions in the Market Discovery disk, I realized two things :
1 - there's a competitor that I might be able to buy - so I've been looking into that and bought a course on how to buy websites.
2 - the way my autoresponder is set up, it attracts the "bad" type of customer. So I've spent a while tweaking it.

I realized that I was being too familiar in my communication, and my ads were shown on the wrong websites. As a results, I was ending up with way too much young people, no-money people, and foreign people on my list.

    I'm fixing this right now.

      I'm fixing this right now.
Thanks for an interesting thread. However, the above statement interests me in particular. How did being too familiar result in ads on the wrong websites?

      Thanks for any clarification.

I'm having this problem with one of my list, too. I would love to hear some info on the solution. What do you mean by "too familiar"?

Okay, here's how I discovered, interpreted, and cured the current problem.

Whenever I run a promotion, I get emails and blog comments from :
    - people who can't spell correctly and don't seem to know the difference between a computer and a cellphone
    - people who start their messages with "Well, I can't afford to buy your course, but I have this question...."
    - people who start their messages with "Hi, My name is Ahmed and I'm from Congo, and ..."

At the same time, my main competitor has CEOs from Paris among his clients posting on his blog.

So I figure, therere must be something wrong with my marketing because I'm not getting the "right" kind of customers. And since I'm already getting good results, I know I would be making money like crazy if I was getting the right leads from the start.

    What I did :
    - Bought Dan Kennedy's "No bullshit Guide to marketing to the affluent" book. An awesome read, really inspiring, and I started to "get it".
    - Raised my prices.
    - Built more exclusivity into my programs (modeling after Tony Robbins' funnel)
    - Changed my subscription product to make it more addictive and project more value. I modeled the current system after Frank Kern's Mass control monthly, with a DVD and a paper document.
    - Rewrote my autoresponder sequence (currently in progress) to sound more professional (and older). Kind of, moving from speaking like 18-year-old Frank Kern, to speaking in the voice of Eben Pagan.
    - Rewrote all of my marketing to "vouvoiement" - which is a problem you don't have in English. In French, you don't use the same word for "you" if you're talking to a friend or if you speak in a more conventional fashion.
    - Checked my stats to know where the leads were coming from.
Google Adwords allows you to buy very cheap clicks on the content network - but they will get you clicks from CHEAP SOURCES. Like the french equivalent of 16-years-old-Myspace-pages.
I banned all of those sites that I could find in my stats from my adwords campaign.
    - I ran John Reese's Market Discovery analysis to refocus on my desired customer, and now am focusing on older, richer, prospects.

    Hope it's been helpful,
    Tony

This is what is called 'Taking Massive Action'! Dan Kennedy would be proud. It's the only way forward.

    Actions Report

I just checked my forum and realized that the login form was broken (the features I had coded myself to allow auto-login on signing up etc, didn't work anymore). It should be fixed now, which will get more posts and pageviews from the new members.

    Income report
Two *new* people signed up to my subscription program in the last 24hours since I fixed the bug.

I am relaunching my coaching program on Jan, 6th.
I've spent the last few days planning that launch and re-reading my Mass Control and PLF courses until my eyes burn out.
It's going to be crazy. I'll report on the traffic and numbers.

    Actions Report - December 30th

I was checking my stats to write that post and I had a look at my last newsletter... the open rate has been awful (7.6%, my worst ever)
but the worst thing is : it has only been sent to 1/3 of the subscribers !

So I'm learning three things :
#1 - I have a problem with my email system.
#2 - The last days of Christmas are not the best to get your emails read.
#3 - I can still make money from having 1/2 of my typical open rate on 1/3 of my list...

    My actions :
#1 - i'm setting a cron system to check that all emails are being processed faster.
#2 - I'm delaying my launch by a week to allow more exposure.
#3 - I celebrate the success with my business partner tomorrow.

    Actions report - December 31st
I've added a while ago a little "option" box on my optin page that allows me to target my list better (if you check the box, then you are a different kind of prospect, therefore you go to a different list)
This specific sublist has now 3,900 emails on it and I haven't sent them a single email for three months.
I'm building a survey for this list to do some market research and build a product for them.

    Actions Report - Jan 2nd
I've got 150 answers to my survey already, and less than 20 people unsubscribed from the last email.
I tweaked the forum script to make it easier for new members to actually use the forum and post.

OK this is my last post in this topic.
From now on I will use my WF blog because I don't want to be "bumping" this topic everytime I share an update.

    Here's the newest update :
    http://www.warriorforum.com/blogs/to...ic-report.html

I've experienced a huge increase in traffic this week (77% more traffic).
It comes primarily from a pre-launch sequence of 3 emails that I've been sending out other the last days.

See you on the blog from now on,
    Tony
