Hi everyone,
I was just wondering, how much money do people make with Amazon Affiliates?

    • I am planning to change my marketing efforts from Clickbank to Amazon asap. The problem is that I still think it is easier to make money with Clickbank but the money seems more ethical from Amazon. And I think that Amazon has better potential to make me a good affiliate business.

So I do not make money with Amazon today but will keep an eye on this thread since I am gathering all the information that I can about the subject.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks

  • It all depends on how many clicks you get, how much the advertisers are paying Google. The more they are paying Google, the bigger the cut for you. A lot of variables involved.
  • Thanks everyone for the advice.
  • That would depends on the clicks you get. The more clicks the more money you'll get.
  • I only got 12$ in one month!

    • This month I'm set to make a little over $3K and this is my best month ever at Amazon. I started setting up Amazon sites last April, not really expecting much. By July I started seeing noticeable results, and by September I was really rolling.

My personal opinion (because I haven't read any of the Amazon WSO's yet) is that you have to take your keyword research seriously. Sometimes you don't wanna shoot for the most obvious keywords.

I don't always think about the primary customer, because that's where everybody else is headed. I think about secondary customers... who else might need the product, and what will they use it for.

You have to be creative with this stuff. Consider different angles.

    • Hey Matt, 4 months on, how are you getting on? I'm pretty much where were then, now.
  • between $80 - $110 per month right now but im hoping that will grow!
  • I'm looking at about $1300 this month.

Range around $1000 to $1500 per month.
  • Yeah, not much. But I'm picking up tips along the way that will help me make more money in the future, and like someone said above, by not choosing the most obvious keywords.
  • A few of my amazon sites are making $250-$500/month.
  • Before I started focusing on Amazon I was making between $25 and $50 if I was lucky. Then I honed my strategy last year and started really focusing on what works - December I was up to about $1300 which I thought was a Christmas fluke but I think I'm going to come in around $800 for January. Not bad earnings since I work full time and do this for "fun" lol
    • [3] replies

    • Does your profit depend on what niche your in? and how what products will convert more, to get more people clicking?

    • Thats cool ! Christmas time always brings in more revenue
    • Thats really good how much in commisions does amazon pay out?
  • I just started out this year with Amazon. I have three sites already, and are seeing some great movement int the SERPS, It's a matter of time before the traffic picks up.

    Sales so far: $0

I's very encouraging to see movement early in the game as it keeps me motivated, although slightly demotivating if the movement is the wrong way

    • Im just in the same boat, how about we switch out skype or aim. Think it will be good for motivation and coming up with good ideas. Let me know what you think.
  • I made $40 with Amazon over the Holidays. It was great seeing as I didn't have any seriously prominent amazon sites; I too have been considering moving my efforts from adsense to amazon.
  • What exactly do you do?
Do you have any sample sites that I can look at ?
  • I have two sites that make about $30 per month. They combine both product reviews and SEO driven articles.

  • December I made just over 9 buck (started building mid November). January I made 21 bucks and last month I made close to 70 bucks.

So not huge amounts as yet but I consider this to have been my learning phase.
(It's not been a total waste of time as I've got a load of software tools and product Ideas as a result of this phase).

I've got a few things that I'm going to implement this month which I'm confident will bring a rapid increase in profits in the next 2-3 months.
  • With the recent Google Algorithm change has that had any negativity on people's Amazon sites?

Im having some Amazon sites built soon which i am outsourcing. Should i tell the outsourcer anything specifically regards to the on page SEO or is the process of the keyword research, etc.. the same as before the algo change?

The reason i ask is, one bidder for the project said that his SEO work would be done in accordance to Google's recent algorithm change.

Hope to do heavy promotion to see how the site converts when it's already ranking.

    • I make around $600 a month. I love Amazon since I find it really easy to write content about products and it converts really well.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Lots of factors will affect this. While I am not involved in this directly, I have been told by others that the number of clicks you is a big issue. Basically, the more clicks you receive, the more money you will make. I know some people who are really pleased with having earning some extra "pocket money" each month.

  • built 11 sites this month well the first batch went live the beginning of March, I should hit somewhere just under $300 this month. My first month! so I am pretty pumped.

Need to really start getting traffic, I have a couple page one rankings but my tricling traffic comes from exact product name searches which end up converting. I will spend another month to get some really good back-linking going to these 11 sites then I will build 10 more starting Amazon. My goal is to show a 50% increase every month.

One tip that you will find around the forums that really helps alot make one site a low cost very popular product, like an accessory for a popular product. These convert well and will help boost your commission % fast, in turn make more money per sale on your big ticket items.
  • During "off months" I average about $150+ per month from Amazon Associates.

During the months leading up to December I average several hundred dollars per month. I hope to average about a thousand each month, eventually.

  • I made 34 Squidoo Amazon lenses with minimal profits. Then I took a course and made one (my first) Wordpress site according to directions. My site went on Google's first page very quickly in Jan. and is still there, one of the top 3 on page one. I made $124.24 in Jan...my first real Amazon money. I intend to make more but up to now family situations have delayed me. Onward and upward!
  • Hmm I've been making at least $100 per month for the past few months, I mostly aim for adsense revenue but amazon is a nice bonus for when people want a product.

    • I am not presently working with Amazon, however I do have a friend who is making thousands each and every month, so I know it can work.

Many people, like one of the warriors above, have more than one site and do let them all sell for Amazon. Traffic is the key to any kind of money, whether it's Clickbank, eBay, or Amazon. Good luck in everything you do!

  • Interesting question. We've been an Amazon affiliate for 3 years. Tried all kinds of ways to drive traffic:

    1) Building niche websites, coupling adsense and Amazon links and building links
    2) Driving Amazon sales leveraging our celebrity clients
    3) Straight up Amazon links via website and email

The most conversions we've had was leveraging our celebrity brands. Why? Because it's already put the visitor in a "trust" factor mode.

Mind you, the payout is pennies on the dollar, but the celebrity brands drive pretty decent volume and a certain % do buy based on the brand.
  • My average conversion rate is about 2.5%.

So, More Traffic = More Clicks = More Money.

    • I Finished my couching on 1 February this year. After 1 month and 5 days I earned my first $2. (very nice feeling)
During March I tried 3 to 5 coaching, 2/3 reports and other minor similar products.

I was trying to add value on my site using every single tip I learned.
I ended up March with $37.80.
1 site, seasonal niche with a peak in summer.

Tips for the newbies like me.

      Which course would you suggest?
Every course has got pros and cons. Some of them have got a lot of details some are just an overall explanation. In my opinion they complete each other.
I would go for Dan Brocks' Deadbeat Super Affiliate or Amazonian Profit Plan.

Do you use autoblog, amazon plugins etc?
I personally believe that all these plugins are not needed. I like to have control of what I write and I don't personally love to rely on plugins.

Unique content of copy and paste?
Great, Unique content and a lot of it. I like to write and in my experience I rank very well without a lot of backlinks. Maybe Google loves me!

      What Theme do you use?
Any nice and content focused theme. I don't like to follow the "best theme for amazon" trend as you end up finding all cloned website. A part from the huge footprint for reverse engineering which could help you finding niche gems, they all look ugly to me.

      Adsense or Amazon or Both?
I think it depends on the website. My review website earned $0.90 in 1 month with adsense.

Again, I have just started but I found out that affiliate marketing is a proper job that requires hard work, test, test and....did I say test already?

To summarize, I would suggest you to avoid the trends about the "latest autoblog" plugin or course or secret (like somebody would call it).

Use your brain and do the things properly without rushing.

As I usually say, to do things wrongly it take the same time to do them properly.
  • Anyone know if Amazon dropped Texas?
    • [1] reply
    • Amazon has threatened to leave Texas, and to close down its huge regional distribution center there. But so far it looks like their bluff may be working. The governor intervened and said "this may be a mistake", and the legislature is crafting some new rules to keep Amazon from leaving. I'm watching this closely, because there is similar pressure in California and the remaining states as well.
  • From 300 to 2000, trying very hard to reach a steady 1000

    • how long have you been doing this and how many sites do you have?
  • I started out with Amazon and made a little. Just as I started to get going Illinois passed the Amazon tax law and Amazon dropped its Illinois Associates. I figure you can make a lot of money if you have a lot of sites, make sure you do your research on each product your promote and use conversion techniques.
  • three figures a day or more sometimes!
  • I use Amazon as the product component of most of my autoblogs, but as with everything, no traffic equals no sales. I average between $80 and $200 per month. IMO not worth my time unless I really want to start pushing traffic to those sites and product.
  • You will have to sell a lot of amazon products, to earn a decent amount. Once i sold about $3500 in 2 months through links, websites etc and i only received around $100.00.

I only ever actively sell amazon prodcuts from around september to December because of the christmas orders - it goes crazy then.

Amazon used to be decent until they removed the direct linking which i used on adwords.

If you have websites with good traffic then selling amazon products definately works as people trust it, as it is a good brand name.
    • [1] reply
  • It seems like it is quite hard to make much money with amazon..
You need to sell more and more products.Thousands of them in
    order to earn more..

That will be a really hard work, isn't it.
  • Does anyone use wp zon, amaz-one, reviewazon, or other plugins for amazon products? Do you find they help increase income or is it better to get products/info from amazon another...yet newbie friendly..way? Are review sites or other better?
    • [1] reply
    • I have success with sites that are something like...

      best(productkeyword).com
      or...
      cheap(productkeyword).net
      or...
      productxproductycomparison.org

I don't use any plugins to generate content. I have never had any success with anything other than creating my own content.

I don't use exact brand names for the above (productkeyword), but rather words like "end tables" or "kitchen mixers" or "portable dvd players" etc...

Then you can talk about the general topic of, say, kitchen mixers, then talk about a specific few models that are the most popular and review them in extreme detail.

At least that's what I do....
  • Alas, I have much more success on Ebay than Amazon. Isn't it weird?

  • I average between $150-$200 per site per month. I have 21 sites and all of them are manual sites...No autoblogs!

I used to set up autoblogs and I can tell you hands down that manual sites do much MUCH better!
    • [1] reply
    • I have several sites that make $100-$200 a month, I use exact product numbers or names and focus on higher priced models and also I focus specifically on products that are not out on the market as yet, it takes extra patience, but by the time it hits the market I have done enough to be sitting in top spot on google and the sales start coming in.

I have more sites right now with products that are not on the market yet compared to ones that are, and I expect to increase monthly income quite a bit when the new products hit the market.

  • Just started in Jan 2011 and made $245 in my first month, up to $1200 in April pretty excited at the constant increase in earnings each month!
  • Pretty much $0. Once in a great while they send me a gift certificate but I just spend it at Amazon so they get it back anyway. Their payouts are too low for me to give them much attention but I have a few of their links up just in case.
  • I can understand some saying that the commission is low, but the initial work is in the beginning and once you have built the sites, it is a residual income that comes in month after month and really the maintenance is minimal after they are up online.

Building multiple streams of income is always recommended, and Amazon is a great additional monthly income to the other streams of income.
If you focus 100% on Amazon it can provide a full time income, however I prefer to mix it up a bit, but it can certainly provide a full time income if focused upon.

  • Hi Jan Roos,
If i don't misunderstand, you create a wso is about how to earn money from Amazon affiliate. Could you please give me the link to that wso?
  • I'm making a steady $300 to $500 a month, spread across the best 4 or 5 little review sites that I have.

Some of my other sites are a bit unfinished, but I'll have them tuned up and making a steady $50 to $100 a month, once I have some free time to work on them.

Conversion rate is pretty good at about 4% to 7%. Those sites are just one avenue, but they pretty much make money without much intervention from me. Though I still like to work on them a few hours each week, just to keep building them up.
  • Hi,

We actually have to establish How Much Money we create? ... So make certain you offer price too and then allow Amazon do relax.
    Thanks!
  • Amazon is an awesome program and there are a lot of really good courses out there right now. You can make a decent amount of money, but you've got to do it right. I think the guys struggling are struggling because they're putting up one site and not really driving any traffic to it. The site is just one part of the equation, getting traffic is just as important.

  • Could you share what templates you use and what layout works best? Headers etc.
  • I generally make between $600 and $800 a month. Here is what I do:

-I find the "hot" products listed by amazon. (or any niche product you want)
-I do try to find high ticket items since they pay more but I get good volume from the low dollar stuff too. It all equals out but I try to push the high ticket items when I can.
-I build a squidoo lens (yeah squidoo lenses) with that exact product name as the title usually
-I build amazon ad lenses similar to this lens (built for someone else through my gig on fiverr)
-I use a plugin I had made to turn out amazon ads like on the lens above very quickly.
-That plugin allows me to build attractive ads that I keep 100% of commissions instead of having to share them with squidoo.
-This all costs virtually nothing to do and it's a numbers game. I truly try to turn out 10 per day.
-To get traffic to my lenses i just plug articles into unique article wizard and link to my lenses. It's the only backlinking I do and it's crazy effective.

Here is a snapshot from June 6 2011 of my Amazon earnings so far this month. Oh by the way, for the past year I have doing all of this from my hootch in Iraq.

    • I've been selling on Amazon for a couple years now. Not through their affiliate program, but through my own Amazon store.

I've identified the service providers that liquidate Amazon's customer returns. So I purchase those returns at 10-25 cents on the dollar and resell them on Amazon as "used" products at 50 - 60 cents on the dollar.

It does require work, you have to purchase and sort products, repack, and ship them. But putting in just 10-20 hours a week regularly nets me $5,000-$8,000 a month out of my own garage.

It's as close to shooting fish in a barrell as you can get. I've never had a product NOT re-sell on Amazon.

    • Sounds like you got that down to a pretty smooth process. How much time do you put in cranking out 10 squids a day ? ..if I understood you correctly.

  • I'm making anywhere from $4,000.00 to $6,000.00 per month on my 15 sites. I also make about $500.00 a month from some of my Squidoo lenses, which I never thought I'd make money from. So, I'm very positive about Amazon. It has taken time, that's the key, be patient. I just keep doing my key word research & setting up sites. I also do really with commission Junction sites, selling physical products like Halloween costumes. Good Luck!!

    • That's great. Are they niche specific sites or do you cover multiple niches on the same sites?

Have you noticed any shift in any of your site's rankings with the recent google algo change the last couple of days?
  • You can make good money with Amazon, but with the puny commissions, it's hard work unless you are doing serious datafeed type sites. Wouldn't it be better to put all that effort into markets where you can make dollars per click, not just cents per click?
  • Is there a certain way to be able to find the high dollar niches on amazon? I've tried but I must be missing something or looking in the wrong place. I don't want anyone to give up their info, but if someone can at least point me where to look in a certain price range, it would be great!

    • Amazon has in its search function for sorting the results by bestselling, high to low prices, low to high prices, or avg customer review. As I have mentioned previously some of the categories I promote are high end industrial, scientific, medical, health, communications, technology, automotive, home and garden, office, sports etc. With their ingenius conversion system, usually buyers will also often buy in quantities of the less expensive products within the same order such as related supplies, accessories and comparably/tangentially suggested items.

    • I put up 2 sites about 4 months ago, they're bouncing around google, get the odd bit of traffic... my keyword analysis wasn't great.

Since then, I picked up a wso for just under $100, thought it was time to do it right.

I've 4 sites I'm working on now, they're pretty new, so aren't really ranking yet... but, they're built a lot better than my earlier versions.

Up until 2 days ago, my amazon earnings since Feb of this year was $2.

Then, in 1 day, I had 5 sales(from one of my earlier sites). The site in question is promoting products in the $30-$70 range... but someone, coming from my affiliate link bought a hoover for $450! so, even at a measly 4% commission, I got over $17 for that one sale, and made $22 in one day.

This has really opened my eyes to the power of amazon. I'm still learning, but it's all pretty exciting

One tip that I've recently discovered is the power of buying keywords... I was too focused on exact monthly searches in the begining, targeting just the product name or type... now I know, you have to target people who are in buying mode as apposed to research mode.

  • Isn't it a matter of scaling.....the more products you promote and the more websites you create the greater your potential $ ?

      it's called "Amazon Treasure Chest".

Thta should put you in the right direction.
    • There are some really great threads here on the forum that you could learn alot from. Just use the search function to look for 'Amazon' threads and you'll find some very useful tips from people who are making money with Amazon. Those threads alone would probably be enough to get you started.

If you want to spend money, there are great products by guys such as Jan Roos, Ryan Stevenson & Dan Brock. And there's 1 on 1 coaching available here from Michael Franklin - I haven't done the coaching myself, but from what I've heard, it's well worth the investment.
