Question for Amazon Associates....I noticed some affiliate referral codes are different than others.

Just doing some research & I noticed two different affiliate sites promoting amazon products.

1st site had the typical long amazon referral code with the "trackingID-20" inside the url.

BUT

2nd site had a something like "www.sitename.com/amazonproductname"

I've never that before...what gives??

The second one is just a page on the affiliate's site that redirects to the affilliate link.

      hmm...sorry. I dont quite follow.

If it redirects to the affiliate link wouldnt the link have the traditional "trackingID-20" that amazon assigns to associates in order to distinguish commissions?

My understanding you can handle Amazon links several ways:
the traditional -20 tracking method or using a service to cloak/shorten your links such as bit.ly. I know Pretty Links used to create good looking links, don't know if they still do.

Yes, but the affiliate would be setting up a redirect from one of their pages, and from THAT page sending the user to amazon using their affiliate code.

So on their main page the link would point to theirwebsite.com/amazonproduct.php (or whatever)

On amazonproduct.php page would be some sort of script (probably php or sometimes just javascript) that would then forward the user to the link that includes their tracking id.

The user never see's the link and to them it seems like a seamless transition to amazon.

        Did that make sense?

Sorry I didn't get back to answer you, the forum's been giving me database errors all day... but only in Firefox, I just found out. Looks like Traceye got you sorted, though.

they are using a plugin or script that allows them to name their affiliate links in such a way.
