Are press releases possible/useful for Affiliate sites?

Hi Guys,

I'm an Amazon affiliate and have a few product review sites that I'm currently doing a lot of SEO on.

I've noticed that various threads on here recommend using Press releases to generate backlinks and traffic but after looking into how a press release is written and whats expected I have no idea how I would go about writing one for an amazon product review site and if it's even necessary.

Does anyone else have experience with this? How the hell do I make an interesting press release about a site where I just review products?

If you can write press releases in very high quality, it has great chance to promote them through Google News.
