So what do you think of Cyber Monday?

What do you think of Cyber Monday?

Was it all hype? Or did you see a large increase in traffic today?

For myself, I did some targeted marketing for Cyber Monday and saw a bit of an increase in traffic today.

I personally think that it's all a bunch of hype. The term was coined about ten years ago when most people didn't have internet access at home, so the theory was that people who didn't have internet access at home would shop in their offices the following Monday after Thanksgiving. But internet access is quickly approaching the total saturation of TV access, and a lot of those people have high-speed access at home either thru DSL or cable, so they can shop 24 hours a day at home online and do even more in-depth price comparisons.

I saw a spike in traffic... but that's because I have a weight loss website and people are always concerned about their weight after a holiday!

Anyone that has an ecommerce store that sells physical products sees HUGE increases in sales on cyber monday.
Yeah, that makes sense. This is honestly the first time I've ever heard of "Cyber Monday". Been in the restaurant business for decades, so I know all about "Black Friday". But never heard of 'Cyber Monday' before.

I didnt really think the sales were that great today. I only got one Cyber Monday email and that was from Sears. Then again I didnt find anything exciting on Black Friday either. As for sales. I didnt have anything running today, because I didnt even think of it before today. But I am guessing people saw more sales.

Cyber Monday = Invention of the Media

At least that's what I thought, but since I am objective I actually wanted to make sure that was the case:
Cyber Monday - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Origin of term

The term "Cyber Monday" is a neologism invented by Shop.org, part of the U.S. trade association National Retail Federation.[2]. It was first used within the ecommerce community during the 2005 holiday season. According to Scott Silverman, the head of Shop.org, the term was coined based on research showing that 77% of online retailers reported a significant increase in sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving in 2004.[3]

I have stores and yes I see increases in sales for cyber Monday - although this year I got smart and sent out all my coupons well in advance of Cyber Monday.

So I've seen increased sales for this entire Thanksgiving week vs the same time last year.

I sent emails AND posted a page of coupon codes for all the stores

Repeat customers are a joy and so are the customers who pass their codes on to family and friends - I've seen that happen too.
