Facebook Ads - Suddenly stopped receiving impressions

Hi everyone,

I created my first Facebook Ad campaign 3 days ago which is made of of several ads targeting audience sizes varying between approx 300,000 and 3,000,000 users in different geographic regions.

Until mid way through yesterday I was receiving a large number of impressions (so far about 700k) and CTR of 0.06 but then it suddenly slowed down and now everything has come to a standstill. No new impressions at all for any of my ads. I increased my bids about 6 hours ago to the point where I am even bidding above the Facebook suggestions but still no luck. I have been using CPC bids but temporarily changed a couple of ads to CPM just to test the waters but that did not yield any change either.

Can anyone help provide some explanation as to what may be going on and what can be done about it ?

This usually happens to me for one ad.

But what I am understanding is that you have actually lost impressions on all ads!?!?!

Basically what happens is, Facebook Users don't like your ad. They can vote it down. And the more vote downs you get less exposure.

But if all your ads impressions drop, something with Facebook analysis might have gone wrong.

You've probably just been outbid for your demographics. Facebook won't just stop running ads without tell you - the system works pretty damn well. 99% you stop getting impressions it's because someone is coming in hard above you.

They'll also do that if your click thru rate is too low, because they're not making much money from you. That .06 is low. You need to refine your demographics, and split test w/ several different images. You have to have a better clickthru rate, or they'll cut you off. It's for the same reason that a bad clickthru rate in google adwords will give you a bad quality score - It's because you're not making them enough money.

      Thanks for the replies guys.

If I make the demographic, image and creative changes to my existing ads will that be ok or would I need to create updated ads from scratch ? Also, does the fact that it is currently a weekend mean it may be harder to get impressions ? Because all the ads stopped working around the same time.

I would just start w/ new ads. That's how most people work w/ facebook ads anyway. Ads on facebook have a certain shelf-life, because they are shown to the same people over and over. So once you notice your ads losing effectiveness, it's best to start fresh w/ new ads and images.

But in your case where the impressions stop all together, it's either your low CTR, or your daily budget has been exceeded (most likely).

I just checked and my avergage CTR is 0.075 - is that still very low ? Surely not low enough that my ads would all simultanously stop ? What would considered an acceptable rate that I should aim for ? Also I definitely haven't exceeded budget - I've set it at $50 per day and so far only about $10 has been used up.

            Hi Saimanr,

The average CTR on FB is 0.04% so yours is doing pretty well in
            comparison to that.

As for your ads stopping instantly, Ive had this a few times I think
it comes down to people Voting it Down (Or crossing it off/repoting it)...

Just start the campaign again with different pics and copy.

If that doesnt work, then you may want to consider setting
up the same website on another domain (because the
domain may have been flagged also). Then go again and
it should work. Presuming your paying enough!

            Hope this helps Saimanr,

            Henry Corbett.

Stupid question, but did your last payment go through ok with them?

    I've seen that happen before.

      Hey mate,

It went through just after midnight today - ie. 13 hours ago for me. Does that have something to do with it ?

Edit - Sorry I misread your question. Yes the payment has gone through fine. I assume if there were payment problems they would have notified me.

Facebook is on a 24 hour system. That's why if you increase your spend late in the day you get slammed for all your traffic in a few hours.

See what happens tomorrow - my bet is you will be fine unless you are bidding way to low or you are being pushed down because of the ctr - that one is low.

I'd make new ads if I were you. You should be testing anyway.

I have the same experience of that before. Facebook is really different from other ads.

Did things improve by themselves on your existing ads or did you end up having to create new ones ?

I had the same exact thing happen to me today. One of my ads has a ctr of .209% The ad ran for about 30 minutes with 141 clicks. All my ads suddenly stopped. That was 7 hours ago. Why would Facebook stop all my ads like this? Especially if the CTR is good!

-Daily ad budgets didnt reach the maximum.
-Didn't reach the daily spending limit.
    -Everything is just fine...

    EDIT: It's on!
