In Desperate Need of Wordpress HELP!!!

I think I've stuffed something up but I have got no idea what I've done.

I have just sold a website so I did a backup through cpanel and then started downloading the files. As I went to download the wp-admin folder it didn't have the permissions so I couldn't download, so I changed the permissions to 'write all' and downloaded the files.

Then when I went in and checked the site it has an error. I haven't deleted any files, just downloaded some so I wouldn't have thought it would change anything on the site.

http://workfromhome-internetbusiness.com so you can see the error I'm getting. I have no idea why I'm getting it and how to fix it.

Can anyone help??? Please?

Sheryl

PS I did change the permissions back but it's still got the error

do you have a backup? If so just re-upload it and all should be good.

It looks like you might not have all the files uploaded.

I would try to upload them all again.

looks like wp-includes/load.php and wp-includes/wp-settings.php files are creating the errror. Try uploading these 2 files from backup (if you have) and replace them. Else download fresh wordpress setup files from wordpress.org and then upload and replace the 2 files only.

Give it a try, it might work!

Does the site have a customised theme or a regular one?

If it's a regular one, this is what I would do (and I know in advance that Istvan will disagree with me when he reads this - sorry Istvan!)

      a) repoint the nameservers back to the original host
      b) export the database
      c) copy the content of any widgets into a Word or notepad document
      d) take screenshots

      then:
      a) point the nameservers to the new host
      b) do a fresh install of Wordpress
      c) add the theme
      d) import the database
      e) copy and paste the widgets content

Long winded, I know, but fewer opportunities for errors

Personally if that was me, I'd put my nicest writing style on, get my wallet out and ask Istvan if he'd please be so kind as to help me in return for whatever the good fellow needs.

I'm no WP expert and he's one person I absolutely would consult before I did anything. I've learned more off his free stuff than I can possibly imagine.

I'm pleased to say I haven't had to contact him personally yet but I would...

...Even if I got the cane and the slipper and was told "No boy!! Do it yourself"

EDIT. Rosetree's, apologise's, I wasn't belittleing you there, you posted before I could reply!

I might try that I think.

I don't have any backup because I was actually downloading the files now for the backup.

Rosetrees - the nameservers are still set to the original, I haven't move them over I am still only at the stage of backing up - I was downloading the files for transferring them to the new owner. I am only half way through downloading the files but I thought it was strange since I hadn't actually deleted or changed any files other than downloading them.

M Thompson - I don't have the files to upload, I'm just downloading them.

miscbrah - I ran the backup but still giving the error

have you gone into either of those files to look at the lines it's giving you to see what the errors might be?

were you using FTP or downloading them one at a time? Have you tried uploading the DB and site back up again?

Fixed now - although I have no idea how??? I couldn't upload the files again because I was still in the process of downloading them, didn't have a full set downloaded to reuse, but it seems to be ok now - somehow!

were you downloading through Cpanel or using FTP? If you're not using FTP I'd recommend it in the future. Glad to know everything turned out alright congrats on the sale as well!

Hmmmm, ok now that is really strange, I just checked the site again and it is working now!

Go figure - thanks for everyone's help though, I'm not sure what I did to fix it, all I've been doing is continuing to download files.

Sheryl, glad to see you got your issue resolved. Can you remember if you changed or modified anything in between the time when your blog first had that error and the magical 'healing' of your website? LOL...I've not known Wordpress blogs to magically fix themselves, and I'm just curious about what you could have done that might have fixed it.

      Paul

I suspect that it was just that some of the files were downloading and possibly locked or something like that...

Yeah not sure Paul - I know I had to change the permissions to be able to download the files, I changed them back but the error was still there. Next folder I had to change the permissions again, download the files, changed the permissions back. That was all that I was doing with the site was downloading files. I never deleted or changed any files on the server other than changing the permissions.
